  1. Glad you got the upgrade!

One note I'd like to make for others considering Royal Up right now is to look at what it will cost you to just upgrade your room immediately without having to bid. For us, the minimum bid for a balcony room was $100/pp when upgrading from an interior guarantee. We were able to upgrade to a balcony room without bidding for $104/pp. $8 difference and knowing we definitely had the upgraded room was a no brainer for us. We also ended up getting 1688 on Adventure which was awesome and definitely made the upgrade worth it.

Just got off of Adventure out of Galveston and when we boarded on Monday we were informed that ALL venues indoors require masks at all times, even the "vaccinated" designated shows and events. The crew made sure we all complied and witnessed them reminding folks to "mask up". The tough ones were the teens and children who seemed to have a problem keeping them on but the crew was nice but firm. Due to the "mask at all times" mandate the casino was designated as non-smoking and after the initial shock to some, all complied. The cruise was enjoyable and we never missed a beat. Cruising today requires flexibility and patience and even with the extra protocols was as good as it was before.

I agree. I was on the same sailing and I was thoroughly impressed with the cooperation of the passengers and the staff being patient yet firm on the mask requirement.

We had a great time even though we were worried about the mask policies when the announcement came out Friday afternoon.

  3. I have had a different experience than others sailing right now on Adventure. The line to get into Windjammer does get a little busy but it moves quick. Easy to find chairs on the upper deck (not right by the pool, which is fine) that overlook the pool.

My biggest complaint is it seems the ship shuts down around 10:30 pm. The ship is like a ghost town after that with just a few people at each bar. Of course places are still open, but everyone is in their rooms instead. Likely due to the mask mandate of wearing it at all times inside, at least that is my guess. I wish they’d keep the pool bars open later during the indoor mask mandate.

Same here.  One of the biggest surprises lately to me is how excited people are for Windjammer to be open for dinner.  For me, it has always been a lunch or breakfast only option anyways.

Of course I have no kids, so that plays a role Im sure.

To me it’s about having more options. Sometimes you just want a quick bite for dinner or if you don’t feel like dressing as nice as you normally would for the main dining room.

No they are not.  I  talked to a manager in customer service who told me this group of passengers ate particularly non compliant, so I think they would be happy just to get people to wear masks on the Prominade.

Okay good, because I for one will not be raising my mask between sips and bites. All other times, whatever - it is what it is. Thanks for the confirmation! Enjoy the rest of your sailing.

  6. I would also like to point out that Royal Caribbean has posted absolutely nothing about this new requirement on social media, and it is very well hidden on their website. This is a lack of transparency to their customers which is where I have an issue with it. Typically, these announcements are on the front page of the site and posted on their social media platforms. Very odd and off character for the company.

  7. Supposedly Royal Caribbean is reaching out to customers affected. Well, my sailing leaves Monday which means my 48 hours to cancel would be tomorrow - and I received no notice of this whatsoever until viewing this site. Has anyone actually received a notification BEFORE their 48 hours was up? Just curious. I completely understand the need to up the requirements, but not being transparent with the customers until it is too late is unacceptable.

Yep no concerns from me with that approach. I dont mind the indoor spaces out of "an abundance of caution" but the outside spaces on a fully vaccinated ship feels foolish.

This is my thought as well. If I don't have to wear one in my cabin or in outdoor areas, I'm happy wearing one inside.

My wife and mother both had their second shot on this past Thursday morning. One Pfizer, one Moderna. Neither had anything more than a slightly sore arm and red injection sight for about 18-24 hours. Reactions seem to be all over the place.

I'm curious if the people who have severe reactions to the vaccine are the same people who would've had a severe reaction to covid if they got it. That might explain why the reactions vary by person.

I'll get the vaccine once I'm eligible, not just to cruise but for my own peace of mind. Several family members are fully vaccinated and had no side effects other than the sore arm, which appears to be universal to nearly everybody who gets it.

The article also says that you can visit with other vaccinated persons in small groups.  This is not a free for all or let's all go pack into a theater and watch a live show together free pass.

    Not yet, anyway.

The reason the "small groups" is part of that is because the vast majority still does not have the vaccine and aren't eligible to get the vaccine yet. As more news comes out, it seems more and more likely that this vaccine, in the eyes of the CDC, is what ultimately will end the pandemic a lot quicker than predicted considering the ease of restrictions and recommendations already coming. Supposedly by May there is supposed to be enough vaccines (in the US) for everybody who wants one - so it begs the question, will the second half of 2021 be back to "normal" since the vaccines are supposedly working that well?

    Welcome to the message boards!

Cruising during the restart and early phases won't be for everyone and it's great to see that you have thought through the ramifications and are choosing the best option for your vacation.  Like yourself there are many destinations where I like to self explore so I'm carefully considering my itineraries from a perspective I've never had to look at them before.  Some itinerary and ship fit this approach like a glove, other itineraries and ship don't fit this concept as well.

Thanks! I used to have an account on here but unfortunately lost access to the email linked to it, so had to start over since I couldn't remember my login info.

It is definitely a tricky time. At this point, I'm just thankful I transferred my booking to Michelle at MEI, she has been excellent throughout this whole process with my many questions in this time of uncertainty.
