SteelersNationVA reacted to twangster in Should people living on a ship have special entitlements?
Rude people exist everywhere in life. There are more people who are frequent cruisers who don't behave in this manner but you never notice them because they don't act this way.
Don't assume he is an indication of other people who "live on the ship" for months at a time. He is a jerk on the ship and most likely off the ship back at home too. This is on him. End of story.

SteelersNationVA got a reaction from Pooch in Room Service on RCCL Explained
Let me understand, if DS2 (has autism) just can not handle the MDR after an all day excursion of hiking in Alaska, we can order a meal from the MDR menu for him to enjoy in the cabin. Tip of course, but no service charge?

If we stay in an Owner's Suite, is room service free?

5+ years ago that was the case. Her issues are minor compared to where she had been. She is back to work and living a normal life. Thank heavens.

SteelersNationVA got a reaction from WAAAYTOOO in Is an Owners suite worth it for 5?
The amenities are not that important to us. We are simple folks. With their disabilities we will have priority check-in. Not really concerned about concierge services and specialty dining is not a priority. Having them all together is important. The cost of a solo cabin will balance some of the cost of the suite. Right now a solo interior to Alaska is $2,000. is that about the cost of a 5th person in a suite?
This is a trip of a lifetime. Money is important, but it is the experience and memories.

SteelersNationVA reacted to SuperStarian in Vegan options in Windjammer
My fiancée is vegan and I am a vegetarian. We have found a good number of selections in the Windjammer; however, they are not usually labeled. I found that there is a little expectation to know how some items are generally made. If something has a sauces or broths that contain meat, there will be signs to say that they do.
In the MDR, they have a rotating vegan menu. I am not sure if you need to pre-request the curry.
This is your family’s dream vacation. The staff and crew are there to make sure you have an enjoyable time. Do not hesitate to ask if something is or isn’t to your daughter’s dietary needs!
Have a wonderful vacation!

SteelersNationVA reacted to Snotarni in Vegan options in Windjammer
There are Vegan Options (at least we saw them) on the App for the MDR when we were on Freedom a couple weeks ago. You have to scroll way down below the Kids Options to find them, but they're there... Very nice choices too.... not a lot, but nice. Hope is works for you guys. #HereWeGo! 😉

SteelersNationVA got a reaction from Neesa in Cruising with Child with Special Needs
Good luck. We have triplets, all 3 with special needs. They are now 25 YO. Boy it makes me feel old every time I say their age.
When they we little, we took them every place. The advise I would say is get your daughter involved in activities. Special Olympics was important for them and us. The interactions with other parents was critical.
If another parent/adult says something on the cruise, ignore them. This is your vacation and your daughter's opportunity to learn. Have fun.

SteelersNationVA reacted to Butch R in Cruising with Child with Special Needs
Hi @OurSlowSimpleTravel! I cannot speak to cruising, but as a father of two sons with autism (who are now grown), I can speak to just traveling in general with a child with special needs and sensory issues.
Keep your expectations flexible as to activities. Go with their flow. Take frequent breaks. Avoid sensory overload Get a note from your child's doctor, and make copies. It can be handy. -
SteelersNationVA reacted to smokeybandit in Cruising with Child with Special Needs
I grew up with 2 special needs brothers. One mild, one more severe. I'm not afraid to say I have no idea how my parents did it. My son has mild ADHD and some mornings I rip my hair out. Yet it's still doesn't compare to what my parents did.

Go with the flow. If the MDR does not work, fine. Find the things that she likes and do it over and over again.
