We are currently in a JS and will consider a Royal Up bid to a GS or OS, for the right price. If we win a bid, we will drop The Key.

Caught my eye here: DH insisted on the Key (I think he liked the seats on Nav with the Key and the welcome lunch and getting internet anyway) for our May trip on Indy in a JS; can I ask what prompts your dropping it if you're awarded a RU to GS or OS? Do those come with Internet? I wondered about dropping the key when we were in a similar situation in September but thought it was too close to sailing date to cancel if you're awarded your RU a day or 2 before sail date.

I appreciate your input on this ?

If they would skip it are they likely to take us to another port and refund funds for cococay? Sorry first time on RC ?

Hi Virginia, welcome to the message boards!

I can share my experience with this and surely others will chime in. When we were on Mariner and missed Coco Cay due to weather we had a sea day. My excursions purchased for Coco Cay were immediately refunded.

I knew this was a possibility when I booked the cruise and had a plan B in place, so having reasonable expectations led me to have a great day even though we missed that port. As for guessing if you'll miss the port with the current forecast I can't say, but think it wise of you to explore that as a possibility! James VanFleet is RC's meteorologist (or similar) and sometimes posts on social media updates on weather that he's keeping an eye on.

I hope you make it if you're scheduled there and have a great day.

I just upgraded my May 2020 cruise after final payment.

In my cruise planner is the $18 intern drink package, a couple of excursions and a specially lunch at Chops.

All still there after the upgrade. I did pay for all, no OBC used.

Also when we booked we got OBC, when I upgraded we got an additional $100.

    Hope that helps.

Did you just call and say you noticed it's the same price for upgrade that you paid for lesser cabin and could you upgrade? Was it that easy? I understand it varies call to call and case to case but just wondering what did work for you.

    And that's awesome for you!

Some stats that we learned about the ship for all those facts nerds out there like me

The ship makes its own fresh water at a rate of 712,800 gallons a day. 65,000 lbs of ice cubes are made a day

125,000 meals are made in a week. 60,000 apps, 84,000 mains, 90,000 desserts, 69,000 steaks

Consumed in an average week, 13,000 lbs of beef, 8,000 lbs of chicken, 5,000 lbs of pork, 1,400 lbs of lobster (15,000 lobster tails) 11,000 lbs of seafood, 2,500 lbs of salmon, 90,000 dozen eggs, 25,000 lbs of flour, 4,300 lbs of sugar, 1,500 lbs of coffee, 64,000 lbs of fresh fruits, 65,000 lbs of fresh vegetables, 600 lbs of fresh berries, 18,000 lbs of potatoes, 8,000 gallons of ice cream, 8,000 gallons of milk, 5,800 lbs of fresh cheese, 10,700 bottles of beer, 8,500 cans of beer, 11,500 cans of soda, 2,900 bottles of wine, 200 bottles of whiskey, 18,000 slices of pizza.

The ship itself is made of 3,700,000 sq/ft of steel plate with 350,000 individual pieces of steel used in the hull. There are 1,013 MILES of welded seams, 111,000 gallons of paint, 2,200 miles of electric wires/cables, 100 miles of piping, 62,430 sq/ft of windows, 139,920 gallons of fresh water in the pools.

At 154,000 gross tons, Liberty is equal in displacement to the total of Royal Caribbean's first FOUR ships put together.

I just love facts like these. I cant wait to find out these numbers when I sail on Oasis.

What a fun trip, thanks so much for taking the time to share with us! I hope to meet your obviously awesome family on a group cruise one day! I want to meet everyone here!!

The numbers are fun, and I can't remember them at all but love to hear them- especially about the crazy amount of food served on a ship.

But 90,000 dozen eggs, I wish they'd reword that (picky much?). 90,000 dozen. Ninety thousand dozen ?

    @WAAAYTOOO I hope you're recovering nicely!

  5. I love cruising because once we get on the ship there's really nothing I have to do like cooking and cleaning on other vacations. I wish I would have discovered this type vacation when the kids were younger and vacations seemed like almost as much work just in another location. I also love the uninterrupted time that cruising gives my husband and I together.

Because we live in Florida I still enjoy the affordability and ease of  Caribbean cruises but if I could go anywhere on a cruise it'd be Scotland and Ireland.

    Great fun question!

Otherwise, I kinda miss the AOL days. My wife and I met on AOL back in 98 before it was cool to meet people online. We dated for a few months and I broke it off because I'm an idiot. She stayed in our friends circle and we started dating again in 2004 and the rest is history. Maybe that's why she keeps her AOL email around?

    I love this story!!

  7. Some of you have really interesting and obscure screen names; I wonder what they mean, stand for, or where they come from. If you've been wishing someone would ask so you could share the cool connection or story, please do! I've made up what some of them mean or stand for on my own and would like to see where the really come from, if you care to share.

I think the term 'handle' may not be used properly in this context, nor is 'screen name' so feel free to correct me on what term I should be using!

List of ferry times can be found at https://www.vinow.com/travel/virgin-islands-ferry-schedules/stjohn/. Here's what I would personally do.

Grab a taxi right off the ship at 12pm, hit the 1pm ferry which arrives around 1:20pm. Grab a cab to your destination, spend a few hours there. Take the 4pm shuttle back (gets in around 4:20pm), back to the ship around 5pm. It's not ideal, but it leaves the 5pm shuttle that will still allow you to get back on time should there be any problems.

St. John is so great that I would still not hesitate to do it even for just a couple hours on the beach, but if that seems like a lot of work for a little time, there's plenty of beaches on St. Thomas that will be quicker to get to/from.

Thanks so much Zacharius, that's a big help and gives me a great idea where to start if we wish to go that route!
