They would have had to pick it up in Cozumel, and that'd have been near record time to be testing positive after exposure, none the less having symptoms.
Seeking out zero covid is not going to go well for cruise lines.

They better not have limits anymore on adventure ocean or there are going to be a lot of pissed off parents on future cruises.

This is an interesting take. Lets look at some data points. On 01/08/21, FL's 7d average of new daily cases were 17568, 04/20/21 = 6120, 06/23/21 = 1543. Obviously a huge decrease in transmissability attendant to vaccines as you point out.
WRT the Delta variant seroprevalence, that variant comprised 2.9% of all infections in 05/22/21 - in round figures about 14000 new cases or 435 infections from the Delta variant. The variant comprised 9.5% of new infections on 6/23/21 - in round figures about 1500 new cases or 142 infections from the Delta variant.
While its true the Delta variant is present in FL is it's impact on new cases or more appropriately disease burden something to worry about? I don't think it is. I continue to object to messaging from PH officials, including and most prominently the CDC, that wants to push the importance of getting vaccinated using misleading information. Is the message a good one? Yes it is. But don't manufacture fear of the Delta variant to do that.  That fear has much wider negative consequences for returning to some level of normalcy than it does positive things for encouraging people to get vaccinated.

Sorry if the data does not fit you paradigm, but this really tells me why all cruises should require vaccination.
Because even with the vaccination we will have breakthrough cases, but not at this level of risk.
I sincerely hope it is not serious for these 2 young men

I love kids, however this is a discussion about vaccinated vs. unvacinated.  I don't think the reason for not being vaccinated has any bearing on the question.  If it does, then what about adults who cannot take it for medical reasons?  The separation is for health reasons, not a punishment. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, fair or unfair.  It just seems totally inconsistent if the reason a person is not vaccinated matters, then the entire purpose of the exercise becomes invalid.

So the unvaccinated have to get a PCR test a minimum 3 days before the cruise, and then another PCR test at the terminal too, and the an antigen test before disembarking? I think Royal is trying to make unvaccinated people not go on the cruise ?  that and all the masks requirement + not being able to go to certain events etc.
Meanwhile...vaccinated guests --> Vaccinated guests do not have any testing requirements.
Thumbs up from me (except wearing masks indoors if you're vaccinated part). I still think anyone who is eligible should be vaccinated before boarding a ship, but that's just my opinion. You want a safe restart to cruising. This is the way to do it.

The exception will be (and should be) that they can sit together in the unvaccinated area.

That’s exactly what I’d expect. Ineligible children are, by definition, unvaccinated. They shouldn’t be allowed to eat in the fully vaccinated area. Otherwise it isn’t a vaccinated area and the distinction set out in the guidelines makes no sense.

Curious on your take here.  If the whole reason is for health reasons then why wouldn't they?  If this is there way of forcing everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated or stay home, then I agree, but why is my 12 year old unvaccinated child any more of a risk than someone else's ineligible 11 year old unvaccinated child?  I am not saying they should or shouldn't, but if you create a vaccinated only, well....

I think they did it right by giving vaccinated pax the wrist bands because they will be less inclined to remove them, everything works in their favor.

Don't panic. A lot of things are shifting around right now. They likely have closed some of the bookings to avoid conflicts with lift & shift customers.

I'm not a fan of any shuttle services.  Most hotels in Miami are so close to the port that your best bet is to order a Lyft or Uber when you are ready to go on your schedule and the cost is usually reasonable.

I believe its because they are moving people over from the Navigator to the Freedom and don't want inventory to disappear before moving those on a cancelled sailing first.

Let's say you had a July cruise, and then let's say Royal did kind of what you wanted and cancelled July a month or two ago.
Now, let's fast forward to this past week. Royal announces July cruises and the ship you had booked is back on the table!
However, the rate and room you had are gone, because it was cancelled. So you could re-book, but maybe it would be a different price? Or not the exact room you had before?
You've solved one problem but a new one comes out, and in my experience, this would annoy a lot of people as well.

To be clear, I'm not saying you're right or wrong about what they should have done. Just pointing out the other side of the decision.

    Welcome to the message boards!
First and foremost, while we all love Royal Caribbean, they are a for-profit company. Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves of that.
Back to your point, I'm not sure that is the case.
Yes, Royal took their sweet time before announcing July cancellations...well beyond when other lines cancelled their July cruises.
    However....
They did announce the return of a number of ships.  The notion "they know" it wont sail is not accurate.  I do think there's some truth that certain ships might be almost certainly not going to sale, but most of the fleet is in this state of flux where they are looking for how to get ships approved for restart.
I'm not sure any of us would have predicted last week that the ships that were announced for restart would actually restart in July. The breadth of their restart plan was a pleasant surprise to me.

Some perspective, I live in Australia and can't legally leave the country; at least you guys in the US can fly out of the country. You can go to the Carribean, Europe and beyond. I have had several cruises cancelled, one was cancelled 22 days from departure date out of Japan. Royal didn't create Covid and I believe they are doing their best.
I have a TA friend, and it is not just RCG, all lines have been cancelling close to sailing dates; poor lady spends her day organising credits and refunds for no income
I can understand the frustration with the uncertainty as I have several cruises booked and it is impossible to plan your work, life, flights, etc with all the uncertainty. however it looks like positive change is rapidly happening and each day I read about more positive information

Emilie reacted to WesKinetic in State of Florida Sues CDC Over Cruise Shut Down
I'd started a lengthy legal reply, but @Matt's article sums it up really well. Basically, The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act requires the Alaskan cruise ships to have a valid Conditional Sailing Certificate from CDC before being allowed to sail. So the CDC argues, by requiring such a certificate, Congress has provided recognition and tacit approval of the larger CSO. By default, that would also make it the holding law for other cruises. Florida disagrees with that interpretation.

While I have my own opinion on required vaccines and such, I'm just ready for AN answer, one way or the other, so cruise lines know what they have to work with. Required vaccines? Sure. Masks in public areas? Eh, not my favorite, but I'll suck it up. Mandatory hokey pokey before entering Windjammer? Put my right foot in and shake it all about, baby. I'm just ready to get on a ship again.

Vegas doesn’t need the blessing of the CDC to open back up.

In addition, a few dozen cases in Vegas will be no big deal.  A few cases on a cruise ship will be a catastrophe.

Yeah, it’s terrible to be around people with dumb theories about Covid like people who believe wearing a cloth mask protects them from an aerosolized virus or people who think children should have been kept out of schools. People who wear masks outside. People who really believe Covid was first transmitted from an animal to humans. People that believe a higher rate of people are hospitalized from Covid than actually are.

The point being is there is wild theories on both sides. Just because people chose not to get vaccinated don’t mean they are anti- vaxxers . Maybe they recovered from Covid, have natural immunity, etc.
and guess what? On your November cruise, there will be unvaccinated people on that ship… oh, the horror!!!! Whenever you cruise beyond November it will be the same thing. I would suggest you cancel any cruises so you can be consistent with your beliefs

I am disappointed that Royal Caribbean didn't go the vaccinated route. Forget the test cruises, I don't want to be on a cruise with people who aren't vaccinated, because the reason they probably didn't get vaccinated is NOT because of health reasons or religion or whatever. They are just anti-vaxxers and have all these dumb theories about the vaccine. Plus the risk is higher of an outbreak if you mix vax'd and unvax'd... it may backfire for Royal Caribbean and they may regret not going the vaccinated route. We will see. Luckily my next cruise isn't until November so hopefully things are better by then in terms of all this craziness.
