I would pick Deck 3 if there is a concern about motion sickness otherwise deck 10 for ease to pool and kids club

So any ship but a brand new ship is a slap in the face?   Whose face is being slapped?   I just sailed Oasis on a Western Caribbean that she had been doing for 8 years.  It was an awesome cruise.  My face wasn’t slapped.  I’m sailing the TA to bring her to Europe.  Face not slapped.  Oasis is a beauty.

This is what is great about the WJ. Late diners like me go early to WJ since we will not be done or hungry by the time WJ closes.  Early diners can go before they close up for the day.
As I stated I typically do something akin to a meat and cheese plate, however one thing I love is cold left over Chinese food.  (That college kid has never left me).  I am thinking on our cruise in July  I will see how it works using the Mongolian Grill in the WJ.  Eating cold lomein at midnight on the balcony floating on the waves in the Caribbean seems like nirvana to me.

My daughter is a single parent and her child's birth certificate only has a mother listed. She had no problem getting passport for child. No letter from other parent was needed as per the US there is no other parent. Now, as the grandparent when I have taken my granddaughter on cruises without her mom, I needed her passport and notarized letter from her mom stated she was allowing me to take granddaughter. Also had a notarized letter allowing me to temporarily make medical decisions if needed with dates of application,

On Oasis this past December and the app actually had the menus listed for MDR at least a week ahead. Gave me a chance to plan out my eating strategy !!

When I travel with the kids, age 10 and 8, we often do late dinning. We take the kids to the windjammer and let them eat what they want (often I will dab a little into the buffet as well), then it is off to the children's area for drop off. Then we go and have a nice long dinner for ourselves.

For us: As to the slides, the kids pool area was open as we boarded. The larger slides did not open for use till about 1:00

Since you will be on an Oasis class ship I would board early. Pack swimsuits for you in carry on. I avoided the crowds at the windjammer and ate at Park Café one time and at the Solarium on another. Much less crowded. Also explore the ship if you want. Check out the Promenade, Boardwalk, Central Park.

I usually do later dinning times but will often check out windjammer to see what's there. May pass or just get a snack to hold me over. Once though I hit the jackpot and they had out huge sea scallops and other fresh seafood. Need I say that I was a very happy guy and ended up skipping MDR. Have also done it the opposite way if I have early MDR. Will check out fresh fruit and deserts and I always seem to find a better selection to choose from.

Twangster hits it out of the park with advice here. Go cheapest for Alaska and use the money for excursions. Done two Alaska cruises, one with balcony and another inside. Seldom used the balcony. Spent most of the time on upper decks with my binoculars and camera taking in the sights. Go upper midship near stairs if possible. Just to add, we always tried to go up early for a nice breakfast spot. Saw so much wildlife and scenery while eating, Also the Radiance class ships have a nice solarium view, so we did the Solarium's Park Café for breakfast and lunch many times.

On our 12 night Christmas/NY cruise on Grandeur last month we had the Ultimate Dining Package.  While I love Chops, Giovanni's and even Izumi, I have to say....by that last night, I was SO DONE with these 3 restaurants.  Not only did we eat dinner there EVERY night, but we had lunch there on 8 of 12 days.
I love the specialty restaurants but I would never recommend to ANYone that they should avoid the MDR completely - especially if they have never tried it.  I think one of the 3, 4 or 5 day packages would be more than adequate to allow you to try both the MDR and the specialty restaurants.

As I stated in an earlier post we do late seating. We always book a balcony.  We hit the bar for cocktails @5:30 and go to Windjammers and make a plate of shrimp, veggies, deli meats, cheeses, olives, bread, etc to take to our room.  We sit on the balcony and watch the sunset while we eat and drink what we brought back to our room.  It satisfies our stomach and holds us over to the 8 pm dinner. The trick is to look at WJ as an early appetizer and not let your stomach scream take everything!  We leave the plates on the table in the room and VOILA it is gone when we come back at the end of the night.  I will admit that I usually bring a little bit more and place it in the mini-fridge aka cooler.  I would rather have a sandwich that I pick and choose the meats/cheeses than ones they off late at night.  I also will bring back the desserts in a cup, or their key lime pie to snack on late at night instead of the cookie option.

I agree with above posts. It should not be an issue. Just to feel safe, I would request an early luggage tag or self disembark with luggage if you are lightly packed. Worst case, I usually have travel insurance for any real mess ups.
