I've put them on a carry-on because sometimes when packing up to leave the cruise, we have fewer things we need to keep with us than what we wanted to have immediately available on the first day, and therefore sometimes the carry-on can get put out the last night to be picked up.  (extra toiletries, extra OTC medications, etc)

We are fans of My Time Dining the flexible option.  We have 4 kids and the early traditional is too early to get everyone out of the pool and dressed for dinner at 5:30 and the 8 is too late.  So we book a 6-6:30 reservation.  I suggest if you chose MTD to make a reservation every night in the cruise planner.  I choose the same time each night and we have always had the same wait staff and table on every cruise except if I significantly change the time due to another activity.   You also can speak to the reservation desk to ensure you have the same table or wait staff each night if that is important to you.  It is really easy to change or cancel my reservation that day if our plans change.  You could not make reservations and wait in line but similar to a land based restaurant you could be waiting in line for some time if you go at a popular time.

Depends on what you like.  Last May (7 night, Adventure), we were cruising with DD who has Celiac (gluten free), so felt that set dining time was safest for her because the waiters & headwaiter got to know her & were watching out for her, although we didn't like 530, as it was earlier than we wanted, but 8pm wasn't good for us either. We had no problems, and they were very careful & accomadating to her & us.  In Jan, we cruised without her (12 night, on Anthem), chose MTD, but scheduled 615pm every night, figuring that we could see about getting the same waiter/table if we liked it the first night. We didn't, but that didn't actually end up affecting us too much, since we had 3 specialty restaurant dinners, plus got access to Coastal Kitchen for being in a Junior Suite.  Only ended up in MDR one other night of the cruise, & were underwhelmed, probably because we felt the MTD waiters were not as invested in the passengers as the ones who had the same people every night.
That being said, I know people who are great fans of MTD, and if you're go with the flow type people, and don't have food intolerances/issues (unfortunately, we were still traveling with someone whose diet we had to be careful with), it can be great.

Is it possible 1 of your party has something else on their calendar that would interfere (although, they usually tell you if that is the case).  I would just try calling RCCL & having them do it for you.

Seriously?  With all the nuances we see across Royal IT you can't understand why this is occurring?  ? ? ?

When we reserved onboard, we told them we were using a voucher for 2 of us, then when we turned it in when we went for dinner, they just charged us for 1 dinner.

We're on a 12 night, & I actually modified the date to be earlier (originally had it 2 days before debarkation, now it's 3 days), so that I can hopefully bring the leftovers back to my room for later snacking ?

@monctonguy  Good luck. We're also waiting for a deep discount on drink package. Since we're sailing in January, we might have to wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Hope springs eternal.

We just transferred our booking to a travel agent, and it was confirmed that it has to be within 60 days after bookimg (we were at day 57 or 58, s just in time!). going to see how it goes. We've already gotten a few perks from TA, so we haven't lost anything by doing so.

Loved the blog!!! All those reports of the weather makes me a little nervous -- we're sailing in January!! However, it's a 12 day to the southern Caribbean, so hopefully will have warmer weather for the bulk of it.  Just one other question -- I noticed a lot of Coastal Kitchen dinners, & I know for JS it's by availability only -- did you have any trouble getting in?  Can that be reserved ahead of time (like MTD, or the specialty restaurants), or is it just luck of the draw?  I didn't like the 530 dinner time that we had on the cruise we just finished (Adventure of the Seas), plus, since we were in the 4th floor dining room, most of the time we ended up walking through the casino (hate the smoke), so I'd like to avoid that if possible.

MaryCS62 got a reaction from Vee2525 in On board expense account
Last cruise, we had used credit card for me & DH, but put cash down in the account for DD's (they were in a separate room), this way they couldn't "overspend" .  It's a good way to limit spending if you use cash. However, this cruise (coming up in May!!), we got the deluxe drink package for 3 (4th can't have alcohol, so got the refreshement pkg for her), so we probably won't be spending too much on board, & have credit card for all of us

MaryCS62 got a reaction from Skid in RC cabin upgrades
Interesting - DH got the email (but not me ), but our potential upgrade price is $350-- maybe different price for different sailing? We wouldn't mind the upgrade, but we currently have connecting OV balcony cabins, which we need (connecting), because 2 DD's are in the other & although both are adults, one is severely handicapped, so at least one of the 3 of us needs to be with her if she's in the cabin, & if it's because she's sleeping, we're going to want to be in the connecting cabin so don't have to worry about keeping quiet or having the lights on.
