Amateur Cruiser
Hello, My family of 4 will be cruising this summer. We have 2 (older) minors traveling with us. To book the rooms, we had to put my wife and I in separate rooms and booked adjacent rooms as their were no connecting rooms available when we booked. We did this last time and opened the partition between the rooms on the balcony. Once we arrive to check in, are we able to place the 2 kids in one room and my wife and I together so we each have access to our rooms or will we just need to keep the set up as is and someone may have to go through the other room to get in if we go to the room at different times? To be clear on what I am asking, can my wife and I stay in the same room and both have room keys for the same room or does it have to stay like we booked it having 1 adult and 1 minor in each room? Ampurp85
Yes. You just need to get an extra key to access the room from guest services. This key will only open the door and cannot used as a seapass. Cory
We did this twice, so we booked me and my daughter in the same room and my wife as the single due to her (daughter) being under 18. Daughters key has my wifes name and my daughter who is supposed to stay with me has my wifes name on the key card. However our daughter stayed in her room and my wife with me. Never had an issue. I bet the kids are excited, this is a great way to spend a vacation as a family! This is a good example where it is better to call to make the reservation or use a TA instead of booking online. If you had called in or used a TA, they would have been able to book the rooms with 2 adults in one room and the 2 kids in the other. You may be able to call in and have them sort this out if you want, as long as you are in adjacent rooms, you should not have a problem. But other than that, you also need to ask about the balcony partition. Not all partitions can be removed as you described. Also, to get to the main point of your question, Royal does not have bed police. You should be able to sleep however you want, in whatever rooms you want, and they really won't care, regardless of if you call and get your rooms re-arranged ahead of time or not. The only reason I can think of as to why you may want to keep the reservations as they are, is if only one adult wanted to buy the Deluxe Beverage Package and the other did not. Amateur Cruiser
Ok, thank you for this info! I will definitely try to call to see if we can move people around. We both have the drink package, so no worries there;)
Ryan79
I’ve done this about 10 times and no one has so much as batted an eye! Not having my kids in the same cabin with the wife and I is magical!! Neesa and PeloAl
PPPJJ-GCVAB
You will be able to go to Guest Services once onboard and request an extra key for each room. The extra key gets you into the room you will sleep in but you will still need to use the other key (with your name on it) for all room charges. Same goes for the other extra key which will be for the older minor child booked in the room with Mom . Definitely will be no problem at all! No need for sneaking in and out of the other room. Pattycruise
When you board go to guest services and ask to swap out your wife with the minor in your cabin. It CAN be done, if their cabin is adjacent or across from you. You still might want an extra key for “the kids room” to grab things, wake them, check on them etc. if guest services tells you they can’t move you then just ask for extra keys. Amateur Cruiser
Thank you all for the replies! I called customer service and they were able to switch us so the kids are assigned to 1 room and my wife and I in the other! loki007
i just booked 2 rooms and tried to put two 20 year olds in one room and was told I they could be denied boarding. I would leave your reservation as is with 1 adult in each room and as already stated go guest services to get extra keys. We have done this many times with out kids. I've never had that problem if the kids were right next door or directly across the hall. In fact, one time I called Royal for reservations and asked for a suite to accommodate us all, he was the one that talked me into using two rooms with adults in one and kids in the other. That rep ended up saving me a lot of money. I have been doing it that way sense with no issue, you just have to call to make the reservations that way and link them, you can't do it on-line. It was a casino royal rep I was talking to. DoomSlayer

It was a casino royal rep I was talking to. They probably were not used to booking reservations for Gamblers with families. LOL. I usually book my casino comps through the casino for just my wife and myself. But I use regular C&A booking when taking the kids because I don't want to be obligated to play at any level when on a family trip. Their policy states: "For voyages originating in North America: No Guest younger than the age twenty-one (21) will be assigned to a stateroom unless accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult twenty-one (21) years old or older. A guest's age is established upon the first date of sailing. This age limit will be waived for children sailing with their parents or guardians in connecting staterooms; for underage married couples; and for active duty members of the United States or Canadian military. Certain other restrictions and conditions will apply; such as compliance with the age twenty-one (21) alcohol policy, and proof of marriage for underage couples or proof of active duty military status required." This is taken from their FAQ page: What is the International Age Policy? | Royal Caribbean Cruises And from their Q&A Page: "Q Can my children sleep in a different room? A Under 21s – or under 18s if sailing outside North America – can only sail if they're in a room with a guest who's 21 – or 18 if sailing outside North America. The only exception is when they're next door, or immediately opposite, their parent or legal guardian." Can my children sleep in a different room? Sharla
Minors (anyone under 21) can be next door (connecting or not) or directly across the hall from the adults in their party. You must call in to do this arrangement, cannot be booked online. But yes when onboard you can get extra keys made. I received double points when I booked our family cruise last July. I booked my husband in the room with our 3 granddaughters and me by myself. I booked our daughter and son-in-law in the room next to them. Once onboard, my husband stayed with me and the girls had their own room. Just had to get my daughter a key for the girls room and my husband a key for my room. Since our rooms were all next to each other we were able to open the balcony dividers too.
