The key

Recommended Posts

The benefits are VERY front loaded. Only semi worth it if you are getting the internet package anyways. You can basically buy the embarkation lunch from Chops at $23. I have yet to wait longer than 20 minutes to board a ship. The departure breakfast is nothing special. If your itinerary is full of tender stops and you are NOT buying RC excursions, then there is some value there…but that’s all I personally see.

We tried The Key on our last cruise. We drive in the day of the cruise and therefore missed the embarkation lunch.

It would *only* be worth it if you would normally buy an Internet package.

The other benefits would have to add up to the difference in cost. For us, we took advantage of the exclusive seats at the shows, the special breakfast at departure, the special luggage section at departure, and the expedited departure. Mrs. Cake is somewhat physically challenged, so those benefits were worth the cost as we were whisked off the ship in a flash.

If you do decide to book The Key, try to track any sales, because the price changes frequently.

My wife is a big fan of the Key, me not so much — especially at higher prices. As @Cakemeister said, I think the big draw for my wife is she has some mobility issues and it makes embarking and disembarking a little more relaxed and less stressful on her. For me, it is “Happy Wife, Happy Life!”  so I buy it for her when it is on sale and we are not in a suite. My wife is a Facebook person, so given we would buy internet anyway, it makes paying for it a little less painful to me.

If the price is right, the Key is helpful.  I always get internet, so I factor that in.  I like the priority boarding with the lunch.  It makes the first day much more relaxing.  I also like the departure breakfast and the escort off of the ship at the end.   Again, it makes the day easier.  I also like the reserved seating for shows.  When I am on a Quantum or Oasis, my preference (when it is affordable) is Sky Class.  (I am sure I would also like Star Class, but that has never been an affordable option.)  I find that the Key gives me many of the benefits of Sky Class (except CK) when I travel on other ships.

I don't think The Key is worth it because the benefits sound more useful/benefecial than they really are (especially if you're pro-active and attain similar results with some extra work).

What makes it worse is that since this video was made, the have also removed the "FREE" Room Service.

I think this was a great addition and an excellent sweetener for the KEY deal.

GONE!!

I stumbled on it a few cruises ago. Roughly the same price as internet was for a day so I got it. Right out of the gate it started earning as we were whisked past a line that extended most of the way around the building and basically right on board with a quick stop. We carry on and it was nice to have our bags taken to our rooms while we had lunch. Lunch was great as well. During the trip we were able to be seated at "sold out" shows.  Getting off the ship in port quick was nice as well. My fiancé doesn't do well with long lines or crowds.  This alleviates a lot of that and if she's happy then worth every penny. Had it twice since and just bought for our summer Alaska cruise...

Mrs Fan likes The Key due to crowd anxiety at the embarkation terminal.  And as others have stated, if you are going to buy internet access and it is priced right, then it seems worth it to me.  But you have to catch the pricing at the right time.  I bought The Key for our sailing in June on the Quantum OTS during "Black Friday" sale so many months prior to the sailing.  I look at pricing nearly every day and it has not been close to the price I paid.  Also, I think that RCL could and should do more perks with The Key for what you pay (See HAL's Club Orange).

Hi good morning wanted to know how many people enjoyed the key and if it was worth the money

thanks

andrew

we are sailing on symphony of the seas may 21

We had the key last Sep (paid a little more than wifi which is included with the key) on Harmony last year.

For the cost difference we thought it was well worth it. So much so we have the key for Symphony on 7th May and again for Explorer 8th Sep. On both occasions we purchased it in a sale for a couple of pounds more than the WiFi package. Not sure I’d pay full price for it though.
