Last year, Mariner was "testing" an embarkation lunch in the MDR...  we tried it and it was very good, and more importantly, it was quiet and not crowded.  We're going on in a couple weeks, not sure they're doing that anymore, and/if it's still the same quiet/uncrowded experience.

They didn't offer it on any recent sailings, I asked about it in Jan and everyone (crew members) was unsure if it would be back.

  2. Welcome to the board

In Royal's booking vocab, traveling party only means those in the room with you. You had two rooms and those rooms are each treated as a separate reservation, despite you being family. So not everyone traveling with you. I think you are reading it wrong, because traveling party only means those on the same room as you. If the rest of your traveling party stayed in the other room and you were the only one confined, then it is only an FCC for you.

  3. Having a grandmother from the south, MJ lacks authenticity for sure, but they do have some good food and the hit or miss aspect is prevalent everywhere on Royal's ship TBH. When I was on Wonder, I had the UDP and all the restaurants, minus MJ, were a miss because the name of seasoning for that week was salt.

It would come down to price imho. I love Wonder, I think they have the best Ice show so far and I cannot say whether Symphony has the better shows because I will sail her in Jan 2025. Wonder is clean, new, and modern; having the internet access devices in each room was a game changer..........don't get me started on storage space.

But as I said price, which includes transportation, would be the most important fact and I personally think you cannot go wrong with either.

  4. I remember being sat at an 8top on Freedom last year and being the only person there 2/4 nights. Anyway, that is crazy she stayed in the regular seat she took to be chatty Cathy instead of sitting next to her guest and having a connection.

I think most of the Mexican ports are pretty boring if you don't want to do beach or ATV stuff. I love when I can use it as a casino day. 🤣

  5. I don't need fb for shenanigans 🤣 🙃.  But you find out a lot that way.

I think radiance and Grandeur suffered from the same issue as I could smell sewage smells when I was on Grandeur last January.

But being in the casino and solo often allows for you to view the worst of humanity.

Personally I think nothing was as bad as the group of 900 on Allure in October 2023. They kicked people off in every port I believe.

  6. First thanks for the compliment @jbrinkm I feel like your children are already wonderful. So, I have no doubt that they both will turnout great 🥰

I love that you have the confidence to do Zumba, I lack the rhythm I should have naturally been born with. But I would go watch as a people watching activity. 🤣

I am also excited for my Hairspray prop Photo next Jan when I am on Symphony.

Unlimited dining package pricing is out of control right now.  For my October 2024 Icon sailing, the UDP price is $420.99 per person (discounted 15% from $495.99).   Harmony (April) and Anthem (June), $384.99 per person (discounted 15% from $453.99).  Even 4-night Utopia in November is $259.99 (discounted 15% from $305.99).  These are all 'gratuities included' pricing, but still....

Any insight on what is going on???

The price of the UDP went up I believe some time last year to account for inflation. 15% is the standard discount rate, the better discount rate is 40% which usually happens during a sale. It used to be 50% but I haven't seen that since BF of 2022.

@OShananigans Bar food hasn't ever been included with the UDP. I know that any snacks from the Trellis, Vintages, or Giovanni's wine bars were not included. I doubt this has changed for Icon.

  8. Your daughter and I sound a lot alike. I am not a "girly" woman. I don't wear makeup, heels, perfume or jewelry. I do love a good dress as long as it has pockets, but I rock them with berks or knockoff berks.

I feel like it always works that way: when I want ranger cookies, I can't find them and there is only chocolate chip, when I want chocolate chip there is mainly ranger. There is always oatmeal and I never want those😂😂.

Thank you for your reply. I don't want to pay for the on ship "voom" service.  I have read/heard that there is wi-fi available at many shops/restaurants off ship at various ports douring the cruise.  Our ports include Cozumel, Roatan, Belize City, and Puerto Costa Maya.  I would like to be able to access emai at these ports.

I have been to Cozumel and Costa Maya. I do not recall any places at the port where there was free Wi-Fi, I depended on the data from my phone company. It is possible that the resorts will have Wi-Fi. Maybe one or two of the big restaurants offer it if you are dining in. Cannot say whether it is the case for Belize as I haven't visited there.

My husband and I will be taking a 14 day Royal Caribbean cruise in October.  Does anyone know what nights menus will repeat on these long cruises?  I want to book our specialty restaurants and don't want to book them on great food nights in the main dining room.  Thank you for your information!

    Welcome to the Boards

The menus probably won't populate until closer for sail date for such a long itinerary. I want to assume this is a transatlantic sailing, so the menu order won't readily be available to see. If this is a back-to-back sailing, then it might be easier to find the menu layout if someone knows the ship and sailing date for comparison.
