I think Royal deserves a lot of credit for advancing this and getting maritime regulators on board with the changes.  That's no small undertaking.
It's interesting they are licensing the program but allowed NCL in through their participation in the safety panel.  Carnival has long "not played well with others" in the industry and there has been a strong rivalry or combativeness with their tactics at the corporate or executive level.  With the patent and license it forces Carnival's hand.  They can't copy without facing potential infringement but the temporary licensing waiver all but forces them to acknowledge and buy into the program which will cost them licensing fees later on.  Well played Richard.
Prepare for a lot of names being called on the PA prior to sailing.  Experienced cruisers will know not to mess with this and to get it done.  New to cruise won't appreciate the improvement or the significance of what this accomplishes and they will need to chase a lot of them down before departure.
After reviewing safety information individually, guests will complete the drill by visiting their assigned assembly station, where a crew member will verify that all steps have been completed and answer questions. Each of the steps will need to be completed prior to the ship's departure, as required by international maritime law.

Exactly the kind of response that will be read once and logged (because they legally have to) and then completely ignored.
The CDC doesn't want this guy's opinion, or yours or mine.  They're asking because they're required to.  The kinds of responses they'll actually consider will be 10+ pages long and will present data and realistic solutions.  Random internet submissions?  They may read a few of them for laughs.

Funny thing is, if you truly applied capitalism across the board, few airlines would exist today.

We are totally 'done' with staying home, after all our other vacations (mostly cruises) cancelled this year.  ?  We are driving to CO from TN next week, staying overnight once coming and going, and eating from our cooler.  We plan to be outdoors a lot once we arrive.  We have a condo rented there, groceries are going to be picked up curbside, and our one 'meal out' will be 'in at the condo' after picking it up curbside from the restaurant.
The route we have planned has a lower rate of infections than the city where we both work.  We are cautious, and will be diligent about avoiding others as much as possible.  We desperately need a vacation, having both been blessed with working through this entire pandemic.

I think unfortunately because politics gets in the way people just don't see how incredible each state is in their own unique way. I watch a show called "Aerial America" on The Smithsonian channel all the time and each state is beautiful and interesting in its own way. I love all our states. From NY to Cali, from North Dakota to Texas. My favorite episodes are the really big but less populated states because they are they are so different from NJ where I live because we are so populated. The North, and South Dakota episodes, the Wyoming and Montana episodes are fascinating. We live in a gorgeous country that is for sure. Kentucky was a great episode as well, beautiful state indeed.

LOL Maybe we are all just walking in a circle. Sure feels that way with the bookings. I am determined to get my family on a cruise. Hopefully our first one will be Navigator in Feb.

I say if it makes you feel better to book a cruise, then by all means BOOK ONE!  I find a little euphoria available just by doing research, comparing prices, ships, itineraries, etc! It's been a long year with more to go and I'm assuming most of you are going to end up just like me, cruiseless for 2020. The way I see it...I can channel my thoughts away from COVID, away from work, away from other issues and just focus on this hypothetical small time we call a vacation. Even if it doesn't "happen," due to circumstances beyond my control, I still enjoyed the process.

You can tell by the last paragraph of their post that they have never cruised and where they stand on it.
"Part of capitalism is that some industries and companies don't make it and other innovations and businesses rise up in their place. That may just be the fate of the cruise industry as well, and for the poor treatment they have notoriously shown to their crew and the environment, I'd say it was about time!Think of all of the human rights atrocities that you will save from occurring if you continue to block their cruel industry."
They obviously have a strong opinion and would enjoy the fact of the cruise industry going under all together. I wonder what happened to make them hate it so much. Opinions like those should be taken with more than a grain of salt. They truly have no idea of the different policies the cruise lines take to ensure the safety of the environment and those on board. Their suggestions made it sound more like a stay jail than a vacation.

Those are the "cruise ships are petri dishes" people. Because of whatever reason, they are against cruising (from germs to jealousy) and don't think others should go either. I hope the opinions from those people are fully ignored.

Are you following me? LOL I decided to forego the Oct. sailing and book for the end of May as well. I'm just waiting for my credits to hit. We may all have to sit and have a celebratory drink.

I won't lie, I have booked far more cruises during the shutdown than I likely would have if the shutdown had never happened. I think there will be a huge amount of demand for vacations when cruises do restart. I'm at the point where I would go on any cruise just to be on a ship.

@Jill  I to belong to this club! I was feeling a certain sort of angry as my refunds were non existent. I was like that's it, no more! (3 cancellations by RCCL) Okay breathe, relax outside, using my RCCL cups, oh I miss sailing so much! Wait I am not liking the latest Fain video, he speaks but amazingly says nothing....am I ever going to be refunded my April 2020 Cruise Planner Purchases??  Still waiting for a few thousand....oh wait, an FCC.... Hello Sharla, MEI please book me on the Symphony CLS #Teamdeck17 May 29, 2021!
Wait, another FCC, maybe if even if the slightest chance, ring ring Sharla, can you book me on the Mariner Thanksgiving 2020? If it does not go I have another in my mind waiting for my deposit. I always had Allure August 1, 2021 but then I also snagged the last available CLS on the Oasis Thanksgiving 2021, not over the water facing the sports court (not feeling that) BUT #Teamdeck17 so..... Hi, my name is Denise and I too am a cruiseaholic!!
Special shout out to all of the enablers on this blog, to many to name!!!

Well if we end up on Symphony May 29, we will have to celebrate with a glass of champagne or maybe a bottle! One for me and one for you! ?
I just sent my reservation to Sharla this morning to move to her.

.......put down another deposit. ? Good grief. Our May Symphony was canceled, so rebooked for October with FCC, which will likely be canceled. Can’t Lift and Shift because we already have Odyssey booked for next October.

This itinerary is rarely offered: St Thomas, St Maarten (our favorite), CocoCay. Next date: May 29, 2021. Start “browsing” availability. Hardly anything left. Panic! Go from JS this past May to oversized balcony October down to regular balcony next May. Call friends who we are booked with. Scan cabins. Find 2 together and bingo zippy, we are booked. I SWORE I would not give them anymore “real” money. Fail. (It is a refundable deposit ?)
