  1. Joe, I like NCL. Frankly, I find the 2 lines more similar than dissimilar and I would say that if you find a cruise that fits your schedule and budget, go for it. If it weren’t for the casino benefits related to Royal, I could just as easily be a loyal Norwegian customer as I am loyal to Royal. I’m not quite as fond of the MDR concept on NCL as I am with RC but NCL was the originator of specialty dining so they’ve de-emphasized the MDR for some time. On the newer ships even the entertainment has improved vastly. If there’s a reason, I say give NCL a try.
  2. Thanks !! As I said, perhaps RC's IT incompetence will work in our favor for once !
  3. I found it myself. I check these things incessantly. She responded immediately though and snagged it for us. Actually, the prices are all still there. It shows the inside price for all 3 categories so maybe it's not a glitch but I don't see how that is possible. $918 has been the price for the inside for as long as we have had this cruise booked but today it showed that price for all 3 categories. Hopefully others that are on this cruise can take advantage before RC wakes up. I posted the info on the roll call at CC. So far, no one has responded.
  4. Well, congratulations to your dad for completing this year. I know how much work it is being Department Commander. Please tell them that Dan and Raye say "hi".
  5. Well....them's the tradeoffs for cruising out of NJ in the winter ! Keep your fingers crossed for us.
  6. As of a few minutes ago, there is still a remarkable price glitch on the second of our B2B cruises on Anthem in Feb. 2019. The cruise for 23 Feb - 3 March (8 day) is showing the same inside price for inside, OV and OV balcony rooms - $918. Michelle (the miracle worker) managed to get our cruise repriced at this rate for only $40 TOTAL....so we were able to go from an inside room to an OV balcony for $40. This room was already a casino comp so this upgrade was incredible for us ! Even though the first half of the B2B did not have this price glitch, I went ahead and had her upgrade that one too so that we could stay in the same room for both parts of the B2B. Also, since this was a casino comp, we will now get cruise points for both segments. If we had remained in the "free" inside room, we would not have received any cruise points (casino comp rule) but by upgrading, we will. So...if anyone is already on this cruise and wants to upgrade from an inside or OV room to a balcony for next to nothing, I recommend you call or have your TA call immediately. I suspect this price is a glitch and when they catch it, it will be gone forever. Even if you are already in an OV balcony you should be able to have the price adjusted as long as it's showing this low price. See, sometimes Royal Caribbean's IT incompetence pays off !!
  7. We did the cave tubing YEARS ago. I certainly cannot recall who did the excursion but it was through the cruise line. All I remember is that it was a TOUGH walk, carrying your innertube and that the water was FREEZING ? My daughter (who has NO insulation !) was completely blue head to toe by the time we got out of the water. I am certain that I could not do this excursion today, given my deteriorated mobility from those days. We completely enjoyed it (all but my daughter who nearly froze to death !) but would not consider doing it again. Once was enough.
  8. Hmmm...that does sound weird. I'm guessing that the couples' price is for both of you but I could be wrong. Does it say $269 PP ?
  9. I love beans and cornbread. Don't know if I would want it for every meal for 7 days though... ?
  10. I kinda skipped over Coz. Sorry. Didn't mean to do that, just forgot.
  11. Good luck, Lindsay ! I hope they call and you get the upgrade you want. I will say though, that so far (this is a fairly new system for RCCL) I have not heard of anyone getting an upgrade this way. I hope you are the first exception !
  12. Congratulations ! I'm sure it will NOT be your last ! Grand Cayman and Costa Maya are GREAT destinations - especially for your first cruise. Both locations are extremely friendly and safe and there is lots to do at both stops. I highly recommend that you do Stingray City in GC. It's a lot of fun and one of the top Caribbean "must-do's", IMO. Chances are there will be LOTS of boats with LOTS of people there but it's a truly unique opportunity to swim with friendly stingrays. I think you are very wise to consider doing a ship's excursion for this one. Once you are a little more comfortable with cruising schedules you will be more comfortable going out and doing things on your own. For Stingray City, I would recommend sticking with the ship's excursion. There are lots of options for doing any kind of swim and snorkel and unfortunately ( I say "unfortunately" b/c now you're going to have to choose !!), I think that GC is also a great place to do this. I always recommend going to Paradise to snorkel in GC. It is within walking distance of the ship, is very affordable and includes a comfortable place to spend the day and get some great chow (a bit pricey but everything in GC is expensive) ! The snorkeling right off the shore of Paradise is some of the best in GC and there are many excursions that you pay for that take you right THERE where you can go for free if you know about it. Just get off the ship, turn right out of the compound, follow the road along the beach, go past the Harley-Davidson store and Hard Rock and you will see a building with a blue roof. This is Paradise. It is a restaurant but there is also a dive shop attached. The dive shop is where you get your snorkel and fins. I believe it cost us $18 per person to rent the gear and to use the restrooms, showers, patio with tables and chairs for the day. It would be hard for me to choose between these 2 options (Stingray City or Paradise) but with it being your first time to GC, I would say go with the stingrays this time and do Paradise when you return, which you will, undoubtedly, do. Whichever you choose, make sure you bring your water shoes. As far as Costa Maya goes, many people enjoy Maya Chan, which is an all-inclusive beach day. I have never been there but it looks like it would be very nice. Apparently there is no swimming pool but the food and service seem to be great. We always just take the shuttle to Mahahual and spend the day at the Krazy Lobster. It's a SUPER cheap day b/c you pay nothing for the tables, chairs and hammock (if you're lucky enough to get one !), the food is great and cheap and you can get $1 Coronas by the bucket. If you are smart (do NOT let someone help "find" you a masseuse) you can get a 1 hour massage on the beach for $20. Negotiate this price yourself though....b/c if someone "helps" you, they will want a tip and it will likely double your price from $20 to $40. Just walk up to one of the massage tables and negotiate your best price. It is WELL worth it. There is ONE down side to going to Mahahual and spending the day and that is the roving trinket sellers. They never stop. They are NOT pushy and it's easy to get them to walk away but they just keep coming and coming and coming. If you are comfortable with just saying "no thank you" about 100 times during the day, then you will be fine. The compound at Costa Maya is very nice with a swim-up bar, restaurant, live band (usually) and lots of activity. Many people never ever leave the compound at Costa Maya which is a shame but you can have a great time and never go outside the compound !! Great choice for your fist cruise ! Welcome to our world.
  13. Drink packages were a bit reduced on a couple of our cruises and I noticed a couple of excursion that look like they've been reduced (I don't write these things down so I cannot swear to it). Nothing extraordinary that I noticed, anyway.
  14. You must be an evil bot, too. They always stick up for each other ! ??
  15. Wow ! Those flowers looked so real. You'd never think they were glass. ?
  16. Hey, Jane - Unless you really want to cruise with the water slides, I would say there is no reason to pay extra for Harmony. I personally don't think there is any difference between Allure and Oasis, so if O is cheaper, I say to with it. The big shows are Cats on O and Mamma Mia on A if that matters. As a rule, airfare is cheaper to Orlando than south FLA but as you say, then there's the transfer. I think you will really enjoy the O class. There is so much to do !
  17. I have never sailed on Enchantment and I know that it is different from the other Vision class ships...but I had an interior room (Grandeur) right behind the the R Bar on Deck 4 (4573 on Grandeur and 4589 on Enchantment). I was afraid this would be a terrible location but we actually LOVED the location. The rooms was very tiny but the location was GREAT ! I was afraid it would be noisy. Nope. So convenient to everything.
  18. You won't have any problem getting a private table. You just need to ask the hostess but I would definitely recommend doing it first thing so that you get a table you're happy with. They will do everything they can to accommodate you.
  19. This is indeed rare. I hope it all works out to your benefit. I have never ever heard of this happening at the terminal. There must be some extraordinary explanation - not that this makes you feel any better, I'm sure. Keep the faith. Maybe you can bunk with the cap'n.
