USCG Teacher reacted to OCSC Mike in Casino Royale for dummies!
Yeah, if it wasn't clear, I was just making a general point. I may or may not have played A LOT of BJ in a former life and what you described always annoyed me to no end b/c it's not only rude but mathematically incorrect.
I was always hesitant to give someone advice, even if they weren't experienced, so I would phrase my answers (when asked) with something like "the book says to do this but it's your money."

USCG Teacher reacted to OCSC Mike in Casino Royale for dummies!
"Serious" but lacking in the understanding of the math of BJ. When someone at the table makes a play that isn't mathematically correct, they are just as likely to help others as hurt them.
If someone doesn't like how you play, tell them to go find another table. It's your money and your right to play however you want.
That said, it is obviously beneficial to learn proper basic strategy... but to help yourself, not others.

USCG Teacher reacted to Pattycruise in Is a PCR the same as a NAAT?
The NAAT PCR is acceptable for the unvaxxed. It is the rapid version of the PCR test, therefore more desirable since you should have your results within a few hours (time to process and someone to input the data. The only issue I've read with Walgreens is some have reported not seeing their results in the portal and some have gone into any Walgreens to get it printed out because somehow they have the results in the system, it just wasn't sent out.

I'm gonna stick with 6216 on deck 6. Keep an open mind and go with the flow. We have a view of the ocean on one of the grandest ships on the ocean. How bad can it really be? 🤣

Bah, once you get past the GWB it's smooth sailing—just look for the signs for the NJ Turnpike and you are good!
Though if you want to take the Tappanzee, I'd go down the Palisades Pkwy and then get on the Turnpike. It's more direct. The Parkway will take you too far west and then you'll need to double back.

USCG Teacher reacted to YellowBrickRoad in Casita rental
I just got back from Oasis and did a Casita. Really enjoyed it. We were next to Lime & Coconut so had service readily available that didn’t need to use the attendant button. We used it from 9-5, the allotted time we had. Would definitely do it again.

There are some aspects that don't start with ports such as crew policies and quarantine cabins

Well, they are on the beach, so it's obviously dried seaweed for recipes. 😉

Now it's officially the Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge (the original Tappan Zee is gone), but most locals I know still call the new bridge the Tappan Zee. Sort of like how you can spot the tourist if they call the Sears Tower the Willis Tower! 😉

You mean it’s called something else now?? I spent a great deal of my childhood going over the Tappan Zee to visit my fathers WWII shipmate in Englewood NJ. We always took the Garden State to avoid I-95 in NY.

Hahaha
$47k to $99k to get four of us to Houston and back next month.
I have zero resentment towards anyone who can afford that…..we live comfortably, are very content, and don’t care what others do…but that’s way out of our travel budget.

This way, you can be sure that your flight will go smoothly and according to the schedule. When I need to get to another state urgently, I use private planes because their flights are much more stable. I can always find out the cost of the flight, as well as view the available planes. They are more expensive, but I know I will be in the right state at the right time. https://www.flylargent.com/cost-estimator

I did drive but my husband dropped me off. We didn’t park-but I did notice the garage right next door was for handicapped only. Which wasn’t like that a few years ago. 🤷🏻♀️

USCG Teacher reacted to Stelkp in Pros and cons
Hi all. I’m on day 6 of my long awaited cruise on oasis of the seas from NJ to Bahamas. Here are my take homes-hope it helps a little.
Pros: the service is amazing. Even with all these people the employees make you feel special and will accommodate all! Food is great in Izumi and Giovanni's. These are our only two specialty places we ate at.
Windjammer food is good but also crowded as expected. Costal kitchen breakfast is well worth it. Quiet and great service.
I personally did not make my money worth with the drink package but I do not regret getting it.
Cococay was our best day. The all aboard time was changed from 4:30 to 6 so that was a nice surprise. we did the floating cabana and it was the best money I ever spent! I was lucky to split the cost with my sister. Hurts less that way lol.
In Nassau we got resort pass for Margaritaville and it was fun.
I’m in the owners suite. The suite lounge is our safe haven of quiet and relaxation. The ship is very crowded which I expected. It’s very noticeable when on the decks 15/16. The pools are insanely crowded including solarium. The trivia would be so fun if in a larger venue. We need to get to the venue literally one hour before to get a seat and still not available sometimes. We stopped going. So basically the Cons are due to crowds and I know….it’s a cruise.
if anyone has any questions about specifics I’d be happy to help.

USCG Teacher got a reaction from Pattycruise in Covid Refund?
I know this is the policy and where it is supposed to happen, but I have also heard more than one report of guests requesting and being allowed to stay in their own cabins, which is what lead to the question...
-
USCG Teacher reacted to Pattycruise in Covid Refund?
Deck 3 Ocean view cabins are typically where the quarantine takes place. This is to make it convenient for the staff who has to bring them food, medicine and take out their trash. No one enters the cabin, the nightstand is set up outside for all "transactions". The area is typically blocked off so passengers cannot enter it.

USCG Teacher reacted to Ubiquitous Cruiser in Oasis class ocean view room
We like both forward and aft for two reasons ... less people at the ends so it makes it quieter and perhaps the biggest reason is = more steps so we can consume more calories! 🤣

USCG Teacher reacted to Moby Dick in Solarium
I think it's more important to check the maturity level of far too many, so called adults. As much as I prefer to cruise when kids are less likely to cruise, I'd much prefer to put up with kids than the out of control, so called adults. I'd be much more receptive to share the Solarium with a well behaved 15 year old than those idiots yelling, screaming, yelling out obscenities, degrading people, looking for confrontation, and just plain obnoxious, so called adults. I enjoy a drunken good time as much as anybody. But, I don't upset the apple cart, step on others toes, try to ruin others good times.
