Hi Folks update : looks like they’ll do the right thing. I called at 5:30 and a rep on the phone confirmed the same thing. I’m hoping they don’t go back in their word. Stay safe....

You're out a lot of money just in taxes, if a few more calls doesn't get better results, you're probably better off going for the 2 nights and relaxing a bit. You might end up with a better offer in the end than a future cruise credit for the 2 missed days.
A friends cruise was diverted a few years ago and they received 50% off their cruise fare as an OBC which they didn't need to spend it all and could 'cash out' the balance.

100%. I've heard too many stories of them being overly generous with refunds. I suspect this is just a stressful time for all. Once the storm settles (pun?) everything will work out in the end. I feel terrible people are going through this, I know I'd be stressed out too.

Anthem next month and it's now $52 at 30% off. Yesterday it was $61 at BOGO 1/2 off. They are really just moving too many numbers for me to even try anymore LOL. I got in on the $49 30% off sale a few weeks ago and cannot be happier. (Although, I'll take $48 lol) ... Every day I'm checking!

I think people will find Royal does the right thing.  They always have for me.  In the end things always work out.

I went ahead and jumped at the $48/day price.  We figure we'll break even at worst and we have the added convenience of not thinking about it.

If the guest cancels, like on a normal sunny day.
If Royal cancels that paragraph applies.

Yes the shows are all free, including comedy shows.  Only on the Oasis class ships do you need to book early.  All other ships are a first come basis.

If I was in your situation, I'd discuss with the hotel their plans as this will allow you to plan accordingly, including, maybe (while there is still space) coming in on Friday or Saturday instead and maybe extending (if refundable) the duration of the cruise. If the cruise gets canceled, I'd consider making the most of it in FL -- or saving the vacation time and trying for a last minute sailing in another month or two -- but at least I'd have the options.
I remember in September 2016 we sailed on Anthem of the Seas to Bermuda with friends and family for our wedding. We were married on the island at a local hotel. EVERYONE had to discuss EVERY storm in the ocean driving our anxiety through the roof! (I mean we had insurance for the wedding, the cruise, everything, but still ...) Luckily all storms missed the island and we had the calmest seas I've ever encountered. Try and breath a bit and go with the flow... (easier said than done, I know.)

Same with me and some friends, the Bermuda sailings look so tempting but, the ship is part of the destination for us, so Adventure to Bermuda or Oasis to Caribbean it will be!
Anthem's Solarium is my favorite! We love the Voyager/Freedom class Promenade and the Schooner bar area. However, I feel the Esplanade is comparable to Promenade, a little different sure, but still that 'you're in a resort hotel shopping area feeling' but that's me.
I'd like to sail Oasis out of NJ too, but not sure it'll happen as we plan to go where our friends go and it might be Adventure -- and I am 100% okay with that! We will make up for it on Harmony December of 2020. Admittedly, it would be nice to see the changes since we last sailed her in 2012, but same is true for Adventure (2013).

I looked long and hard at those Empress itineraries but in the end decided that I could not do it. What can I say? I’m a big ship girl. It’s Adventure for us, and even that is a bit small ?

Once the Port closes Royal has no choice but to stay at sea.
Before the port can re-open they must survey the port and channel to verify depths and no debris.  That takes several hours.
The Captain of the Port is typically from the US Coast Guard.  They run with military protocol and precision.  They don't deviate from the plan because a cruise line wants to do something.  If the port is closed, the port is closed.
Follow the Port on twitter for updates.

Hey we are the same cruise! You are gonna LOVE Anthem, its our second cruise on her. She is beautiful, HUGE and has so much cool technology. Two 70 at the back of the ship is one of coolest rooms/part of a ship on the ocean. Don't forget phone chargers or Kindle/iPad chargers if you plan to bring that kind of stuff. Oh we always bring air fresheners for the room. I know that's a weird small thing but we like to have one for the room/bathroom.
The Port is very efficient, last time we sailed on Anthem we were on the ship in less than 30 minutes from arrival at the port.

Welcome! I'll be sailing same cruise with a bunch of friends!
It's a great cruise and Bermuda is our favorite island, you'll love it. I'd recommend listening to Matt's Podcast and more importantly watch a bunch of his YouTube videos, it'll really help you prepare.

It’s card access but JS cards have no access. Someone would have to open the door for you. The hostess podium is inside so it makes it pretty awkward.

100%. I'm not against 2k in jump, it's a fair price, but we are trying to book two cruises next year. Hey if I can find 2k-ish in my 2020 cruise budget, I'd do it all day. Especially since this is a milestone bday for her.

I agree.  A JS is basically just a larger balcony cabin with a little extra space and double points.  I think that the $1500-2000 difference between the JS and the GS is pretty typical from the prices that I have looked at.  It was about that for Symphony as well.  Sometimes, closer to sailing you get lucky and the price gap becomes less.  That is usually when we make the jump.  What it really comes down to is that we are all different types of cruisers.  Only you can decide what amount is worth the jump.  It's hard to quantify because each person values different things while cruising.  The trick is to know what you like and go from there.

    bumping this thread ...

    We sail in 29 days.

been trying to check-in online now for about 6 straight days.  When clicking the "start check-in" button on the website, We get an error message "Sorry there's been a glitch.   Check-in is currently unavailable, so please try again later."  I emailed Royal to ask if they are having website difficulties, or if something with our reservation got "corrupted" thus preventing online check-in (for us) for some reason.  Royal responded the next day.

"We are currently experience technical difficulties with our Online Check-In, and it is impacting many of our guests. Our IT Team is currently working on the issue, and we hope to have everything resolved as soon as possible. While we are not able to advise an explicit time frame regarding this, we encourage you to continue attempting to complete your check-in. If you are unable to complete the Online Check-In prior to arriving at the pier, the check-in staff at the pier will be able to fully assist you."

So there you go.  Just a friendly PSA incase anyone else has been trying to use OCI this week ... apparently they ARE having issues.  Although I'd be curious if other users have managed to successfully complete online check-in (nay, even get the page to open!) since this past Sunday.

    cheers,
    PF
