You do not get to see the engines of the ship, you only get to see the engine control room for monitoring the engines. You can see the engines on one of the video screens.

I'll add one: people who are rude to the crew for no good reason. I can't STAND when I hear (usually elderly, surprisingly) people talking down to or making unreasonable demands on crewmembers just trying to do their job - and a lot of times with a language barrier. It's just really uncalled for and there is NO good reason not to treat crew with respect. 

However it costs us all in the end.

You only get points for the room you stay in, not the cumulative rooms you book. It would have been that way from the start.

The most annoying cruiser is the one who has no concept of space and think they're the only people around. Walking down the middle of a busy promenade and they just stop randomly.

Probably the same people that take their good ole time stowing their bags while boarding a plane.

Wonder if a cabin got trashed by a guest and was taken out of service.  That actually happens.  Stateroom attendant told me one time some drunk guests took everything in cabin that wasn't fixed to a wall and threw it all overboard in the night.  Bed, tables, chair, pillows, literally everything went overboard.  
Another possibility is a group of cabins flooding from a broken pipe like a pool drain.  It's localized but impacts several cabins.  Those guests are moved and consume the GTY cabin allotments.  GTY guests get screwed.  Cabins get new carpet and are restored but it takes a few days.  
Not everything that happens on board makes the news or social media.   Anyone who has worked in the hotel industry has a bunch of interesting and weird stories that never make the news.  
Agree though it is pretty weak compensation for boarding day.  Imagine if you travelled to reach the port, spent a night in a hotel, etc.

Its truly sad and unfortunate but we have got to stop blaming others for our own ignorance.

I have never found the staff at Chops to not bend over backwards to accommodate anything I ask for. Also, Caesar salad dressing has anchovies... so perhaps ask for a different dressing. But I am sure they will make sure your friend has plenty to eat. 

I had only one uncle (my mother's brother). I never received so much as a card on my birthday, let alone a cruise. You are not a failure!
If you are paying for the cruise I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask her parents for help with the extras. 
Plenty to drink without a refreshment package. Also, remember the soda package is only about $8 per day right now on sale. Buy lemonade and ice tea is free. So is regular coffee and hot tea. As for excursions research the ports. Sometimes just a walk about window shopping in a new country and taking pictures is as adventurous as you want to get first time out. 
Your doing a nice thing. She is very lucky to have you in her life. Have a great time.

So I would say in a restaurant the baseline is 18-20%. Personally I start at 20% or minimum $3 - whichever is higher (i.e if my lunch is $10, I will tip a minimum of $3 - since very likely the server needs that $1 more than I do). If my service received is excellent, I will tip 25%. This is for sit down service restaurants. Where it gets me is what do I tip on, say, a Subway sandwich? I pretty much keep dollar bills in my purse and will toss a buck in their jar if they were pleasant and polite and did a good job. Again, they will appreciate that $1 more than I need it. However I do NOT feel obligated to tip at fast food or anywhere else that has a jar. Or for like a pizza I pick up myself. If I do the work, I don't feel obligated to tip. If my to-go order is a bunch of stuff and I know they had to put it together, I will tip on that.  Also, there seems to be a trend where the restaurant adds a 'Service Fee' on to your order around 20% (not generally a fan of this approach), or in other cases if your party is large they will add 10% gratuity to the bill. If that is the case I generally do not feel obligated to tip more (unless we were extra high maintenance). Having been a server myself throughout college, I found that if I left the automatic gratuity off the bill, people generally tipped more than 18%, but if I added it, that's what they left. I made way more money leaving it off because then people don't feel obligated.

Embarkation day lunch is definitely worth it. It's so much nicer than battling the crowds in the WJ.

Just saved $375 by repricing internet, UDP and CocoCay on Odyssey and $160 on CoCoCay on Liberty.  I'LL TAKE IT!!!!!

You can always rent a car and drive from Disney to the port. There is a car rental place in Disney and you can drop it off at the port - I found that even with the "different location" surcharge, it was the most convenient option in my case, and close to the cheapest.

Royal carries a full line of sugar free vodka. In fact, if your vodka has sugar in it, then something is wrong.

By my count this should be 3 cruises. You better call your travel Agent.

This is exactly how I look at it. I don't even look at the pre-paid tips. I include them as if they are part of the fare then tip cash through the week.
