Hi everyone!  The refreshment package is 30% right now on cruise planner ($26.80 Cdn). I'm debating whether it'd be worth while for us to get it. So my questions are:

    1.  How much are the non-alcoholic cocktails onboard? That'd be something I'll be using the package for the most as I'm not a big fan of sodas.

    2.  Can we get the refreshment package just for the two adults and not our 3 and 5 yo? They won't be drinking sodas and I can always fill up their thermos with water or juice from the buffet in the morning.

    Thanks!!

Wow only $26..for or our Oasis cruise in September it’s £24 or $42 cdn ?

Just booked the South Beach Cabanas for Dec 2020 sailing.  I know forever away, but I don't want to see the price go up.  Also if they go down I can cancel and re-book for a better price.

Can I ask the cost, they are £303 for our Allure November 2020 cruise and they are the only thing that’s available at the moment..

Like you say, these things happen and can be really disappointing but no one was seriously hurt and people around seemed to jump to help which is even better to see.

There is always the vocal minority that will complain that something out of everyone's control has affected them and will/are demanding RC do more than they currently are because they are now inconvenienced.

Its good to see that the ones on the board take it in their stride and look at other alternatives. Sets a good example for ones like myself who haven't experienced the disappointment of a cancelled cruise but if it does happen to me I hope I have learnt how to deal with it from yourselves.

The only ones they should really help are the ones getting married anboard they could offer guests on other ships a compensation package to give up thier cabins so the wedding and thier guests can get married as planned...

but all in all it’s just a cruise take it on the chin and move on otherwise it will eat up up and make you very bitter..?

Here is some experienced cruiser advice for anyone with a cruise on Oasis departing in the next oh.... 3 or 4 months.

Sit down and make a written contingency list of substitute places, people, events, opportunities, or even cruises. Make it a written list and the longer the better. And under each one write how you would get to the Grand Canyon, visit Aunt Edna, kick back at a caribbean resort,  spend some quality time in Montreal, etc. etc. Explore each of those possibilities what a room might cost per night, daily allowance for meals, airfare, car rental. Get yourself some ball park numbers for each of those proposals. Figure out some sort of ranking system as to the ones you like the best, the amount of hassle, and perhaps most importantly the potential cost; taking into account Royal might not immediately pony up the money you have already paid for your trip.

Be prepared! Be Proactive! Do some of that legwork now. Waiting till you get a email from Royal saying your trip has been canceled and they are working closely with an insurance company to issue a full refund---ahhh, important time will have been lost to plug something else in. About 5,500 other passengers receiving the same email will be saying the same words "Well, just put me on another boat." Sorry Charlie, 5,500 people are not just going to get on another RCL ship next week.

Please don't get mad and frustrated at Royal over this. This is a part of cruising we passengers all risk. At sometime in your cruising career your are going to encounter a hurricane, miss an important flight, have all your checked bags lost, a war being fought, all kinds of potential disappointing events that are going to step on your cruise buzz. We are all rolling the dice. Let this be a good lesson on how to make lemonade out of a bunch of lemons.

Excellent advice we did exactly this last November when the Navigator lost a stabiliser, I knew the Oasis was perfect for our dates and flights already booked, once the email came with offers we jumped straight for the swap with just 3 days before sailing only 3 cabins available..others missed out and stayed home..?

If they do cancel on short notice they'll communicate options which will likely include a full refund, some allowance for airline change fees and possibly a future credit for another cruise.

I really hope if they do cancel RC refund people who book own flights, we have had two cancelled and lost airfares we booked our own, they say will only refund if part of package booked with RC...

we sail on her in September so watching with interest, just hope lighting does not strike for a 3rd time ?

Further to my last post (above), I continued to work with Stephanie of MEI to finalise a booking for 2021. In the event, I decided not to book the cruises on Anthem (the itineraries and dates were not quite what I wanted). Instead, Stephanie has booked B2B cruises on Freedom for me, sailing from San Juan in April of 2021.

For information, I have given the details of these bookings along with a US to UK price comparison. As before, I have used a conversion rate of £1 to $1.30 and the comparison is direct for a J4 Junior Suite, with no extras (such as WiFi or drinks packages) included in either case.

    Freedom of the Seas 2021
      US Price   UK Price   Difference

    04/11/2021 £2,665.38   £4,070.78   -£1,405.40
    04/18/2021 £2,505.36   £3,850.78   -£1,345.42

    Total £5,170.74   £7,921.56   -£2,750.82

MEI have now booked this for me, so it is definite. There are three observations to make, however.

    1. The deposit required is higher than would have been the case in the UK; $250 per person for each cruise (total $1,000 approx. £770) as opposed to £150 per person with the 2 cruises together treated as a single booking (total £300).
    2. Obviously, these bookings are not covered by ABTA (ABTA is the leading association of travel agents and tour operators in the UK, providing expert travel advice, guidance, protection and help in resolving travel complaints.)
    3. Stephanie was able to place the Anthem and Freedom cruises on hold for 2 weeks whilst we tried to decide between the options. Our travel agent in the UK has not been able to guarantee placing reservations on hold for more than 24 hours in recent months.

Again, thanks to Stephanie at MEI for facilitating these bookings. I will track the impact of US and UK offers, price changes and currency fluctuations as time goes on, and report back.

    Fantastic saving ?

  7. So much choice, we like to fly into Barcelona tend to do few French ports and head over to Rome, Naples and Pisa back to Barcelona or fly into Venice and do Croatia, Sicily, Greece and Turkey, so many ports to choose but the routes tend to be the same.

Ships leaving Southampton 14 nights tend to go Lisbon, Gibraltar, Cadiz, Majorca, Barcelona, Monaco, Pisa, Rome, Naples, and back Southampton again ports can vary... the bay of biscay can be wild ?

  8. Oasis in November, lady very over weight in a powerchair which was extremely big, she a had a very small dog on her lap, while in the schooner bar she lowered the dog by its lead to the floor where the dog did it’s business she then pulled the dog back by the lead chocking the dog and drove away not even informing crew, people were discussed and some actually confronted her, she started to rant and rave how she had a disability and the crew are there to tend to her every need and should clean it up. ? we live in a world where people pretend to be something to get extras and real people miss out..
