We are the same way, we always have to approach them and ask, except for maybe on the pier, and the first day, we are always hit up.
Maybe we just aren't the "Pretty people".

We have NEVER, not one time, been approached to have photos taken on any of our cruises on any night. weird. Maybe we just LOOK like we're gonna say NO, so they steer clear of us? LOL The cruise we DID get photos on was our 25th anniversary cruise and we had to approach one of the photographers and for the other one we stood in line.

First...I am sorry you had such a disappointing experience.
Being a new cruiser (first one was October 2015), I had no personal, preconceived notions about what cruising used to be like...my thoughts of cruising were formed from watching "The Love Boat" when I was younger ? and hearing from friends/family who had cruised. I knew I NEVER needed to go on any kind of cruise...NOT MY CUPPA T. My brother and his wife cruise A LOT, alone AND with their kids and have been on several different lines. Based on his recommendations and his knowing how I like to travel/vacation, he strongly steered us to RC for the general atmosphere, service, itineraries, price. I love it now. We have found that we enjoyed the longer cruises better than the shorter one. Shorter cruises are generally cheaper and therefore have more people on them that are just there for a quick getaway, dare I say partying. The longer ones seemed to have less ... of that. More people who are there to relax and enjoy the ship and ports. not just the drinks. We felt better taken care of and paid more attention to on the longer ones. If that makes sense?
Also, March is the PRIME spring break cruise time. I would suggest strongly that if you are taking your 80 yo mom on a cruise in March, that you consider a LONGER cruise on a NOT brand new ship. After spending lots of time reading here on the blogs, apparently March/spring break cruises are full of people, cheaply cruising and drinking lots. Just do a search at the top for spring break cruise and you'll be able to read threads about it.
If I am completely out in left field about what I'm saying, I hope someone who has more cruising experience than I do will correct me.
I hope you try RC again and that you and your family have a great time.

I have to disagree that holding a conversation in a bar is disrespectful to a piano player or those who want to listen. The bar is a public area and it was inappropriate for the crew member to ask a paying customer to move away from the space they were already occupying when the piano player arrived.

I see what you are saying in that some guests went to the bar specifically to hear the piano player, but he is in the middle of a bar. It's not like a theater where there is an expectation that everyone be quiet to watch the show. It's unrealistic to expect everyone be quiet in a bar atmosphere - to some passengers, he's just the muzak in the background while they visit with friends and enjoy their drink.

In addition to what has already been said, I also think that a 3 or 4 night Navigator cruise is very different than a 7 night cruise experience.

Maybe it's you??? Just saying. You haven't supplied enough details as to what happened.

Welcome to every cruiseline now compared to 10 years ago.

Keep in mind changing ports at the last minute is no easy task. They cannot just go anywhere they want. Every port has a cost to go there, not to mention port calls are usually scheduled years in advance because space is quite limited. Unfortunately, given the extraordinary circumstances the cruise line is doing the best they can with the limited options they have.
You should also know you can cancel with no penalty if the revised sailing is not to your liking.

JennyB reacted to MarvinS in Just off Harmony & CocoCay - stray observations
Yes, that was the primary use of the WOW bands for us. I left it on all the time, through pools, hottubs, etc. Made getting into the rooms extremely quick and convenient.

JennyB reacted to MarvinS in Just off Harmony & CocoCay - stray observations
I don't drink at all, so never purchased any drinks, but I did go to one of the local bars a couple of times and get a soda. It was no problem at the bar with their portable reader, and I did NOT have to remove the WOW band. I assume this would work likewise for alcohol too...

MarvinS, Any problems getting drinks with the WOW bands? Did you have to remove your band to purchase a drink at bars, pool side, etc?

Just got off Harmony on a brand new itinerary: Port Canaveral, CocoCay (2nd time this ship visits here), Cozumel, Roatan (first time for Harmony), & Costa Maya
Here are a few stray observations I had:
1) I did NOT purchase Voom, but discovered that if I simply connected to the Harmony-Guest wifi (for the app updates and schedules), I was easily able to send/receive iMessages to anyone, including those back at home!
2) The Stowaway Piano Man was on this sailing. I had the privilege of riding the elevator with him!
3) First time Harmony visited Roatan. The captain changed our arrival / departure times. Roatan local time was 2 hours earlier that ship time (that remained on Eastern time). Original ship scheduled time was 8AM - 5PM (ship time). New schedule was 9:30AM - 6:30PM (ship time). Evidently, the local vendors didn't want to be there at 6AM (their local time / 8AM ship time) to open up shops, so the captain delayed the arrival / departure time.
4) Got WOW bands for everyone in our group. They worked extremely well, and could be used anywhere on the ship in lieu of a seapass card. They also worked for entry into Thrill Waterpark on CocoCay. Every station on the ship had portable readers that read either your WOW band or your seapass card. This worked for everything from towel checkout to shops to entry into reserved shows & events. You still needed your seapass card for getting off the ship, and for entry in the ports back onto the ship.
5) The Soda cups for the freestyle machines were the same old-style ones I've seen before. I did see a few of the new ones (with straw and looped carry handle), but didn't know where they came from. I had a boardwalk balcony cabin, so got complementary soda cups. Even those that were for sale on board (with various drink packages) were only the original style ones...
6) There seemed to be professional photographers on the ship most every night, and not just formal dining nights. I didn't recall seeing this many days with photographers and various backgrounds on prior cruises.
7) Did the escape room (and made it out with 5 1/2 minutes to spare!). This event was extremely popular. Spoke with someone in guest services, and they said the escape room was completely booked within two days (all days and all sessions) of it becoming available to book on the cruise planner. Glad I booked it as soon as I saw it available!
8 ) CocoCay - Two things:
A) Plan on doing the "highest" waterslide and the slingshot ride as soon as you can. With the volume of people on Harmony, the lines were extremely long (2+ hour wait for these two rides) past about 10AM. The lines finally shortened closer to about 3:30PM to 4PM.
B) The lockers in Thrill Waterpark were complementary to use. Cost was included in the Thrill Waterpark ticket purchase. You just found a open / available locker, put our stuff in, and locked it. We could then open it and access our stuff, and simply re-lock it as needed. I have no idea if lockers outside of Thrill Waterpark were complementary or not...
9) Cruise Director, Marc, was excellent!!!
Overall, we had an awesome cruise!!!

We really enjoyed it in December. The mariachi band was great and it was a nice relaxing, secluded area. Food was excellent.
