Pima1988 got a reaction from Mikeb1892 in Is this a crazy idea for coco cay?
I am actually shocked that excursions have already popped up.
My May 2021 cruise on Symphony did not have any excursions pop up until about 400 days out.  We jumped on the Coco beach pass the day it came up.  It is only 2 of us, so that was the best option for us, we too are like @Ogilthorpe, usually like Chill Island cabana when in a group.  When we purchased the pass in late April, the only other Coco Cay excursion on the planner was the beach bed.  Mid May the over water and Chill cabana came on line.  It was only a week or two ago that Thrill came on line.  Oasis cabanas came on line that day too.
If I knew I was going in a group I would jump on that price, especially with children since the cabanas have a water slide attached.  I could see doing the water park since you are on Anthem.  If you said to me you were on Oasis, I probably would have said that the water park is not worth it since the ship has water slides.  I get Thrill has a bigger slide, but to me, even when I was a kid, a large slide like on the ship is a large slide.  The only thing that would sway me is the fact that I am a beach girl and love jumping waves.  I could live all day in a wave pool.
FWIW, if you do not know this, if the cabana price drops (I highly doubt since that is such a low price), purchase the new cabana at the lower price and than go back and cancel the higher price one.  There are limited numbers of cabanas, however, unlimited number of people looking on the planner.  They could have only 1 left.  By the time you cancel and come back to rebook at the lower price it can sell out.  I have seen this occur multiple times.
~ The way my husband and I have done this is:  1st purchase would be under his name.  2nd purchase (re-pricing) would go under my name.  Went back in and cancelled his purchase. We do this so we don't mistakenly cancel the cheaper cabana.

@Neesa I will never forget that passenger, we were on Adventure.  It occurred in the hot tub in the Solarium.  He may have had 1 too many drinks, but man oh man he was ticked.  I kept my mouth shut as he ranted.
Everybody was talking about how excited they were about going to the new Perfect Day.  That was when he went loose.  To him RCL screwed him big time.  He felt rightly or wrongly, that he purchased the cabana, and now it was all about getting it re-priced.  RCL sees it as you returned the item, it was placed back in stock and someone picked it up faster than you did.
What made matters worse for him was by that time there were no bungalows, beach beds or clamshells available.
Cabanas are the best impo.  My brother 1st said to me, you are crazy to pay 400 for a cabana, just get a lounger.  He is a finance advisor for millionaires. Than he stopped for a second, and said, ok, you are there for 8 hrs.  It holds 8 people, basically 50 bucks per person.  They give you guaranteed shade, sofas, loungers next to the beach and deliver food/drinks to you all day.  That is 1 cheap excursion since it actually turns out to be $6 an hr for a higher level of service.
We will not take a cabana on our next cruise since it is just hubby and I. We picked up the Coco Beach Club day pass instead.  Got it really cheap. (79 pp).  The fact is, like the cabanas, it is limited in numbers which we like.  The lunch menu to me is also worth it since it feels like buying a specialty restaurant.  I am a pool person.  Husband is a beach guy.  This is the best of both worlds for us as a couple.
My only hope is that the seagulls have not found out that Coco Cay Beach club exists.
@WesKinetic tieing into the seagulls.  If you want to get glares, feed the gulls.  We actually saw teenagers in the water at Chill throwing veggie straws in the air.  People were leaving the water and telling them to knock it off. They just kept laughing at how funny it was with more and more gulls coming.
Again, I don't know about south beach, but on Chill the attendants were amazing.  Remember to tip them.  Little known fact your bartenders on the shp will also be there at the bars on Coco Cay.  The attendants are contracted for only 4 weeks at a time.
My favorite memories of our cabana are:
I ordered a drink and told her that I was going to the bathroom (2-3 min walk) I thought nothing of it.  I just thought she would leave it in the cabana. Walk out of the bathroom and there she was with drink on the tray.  What, huh?  You actually stood outside of the bathroom waiting for me?  This is ridiculous.  Mat floats come with the cabanas.  Chill beach has a roped off area in the water for only cabana guests. Hanging with people on the mats that were in another cabana.  The attendant is ankle high in water delivering drinks to those guests.  They never left the float.  They brought us fruit trays of sliced melons in the a.m.  Fruit kebabs in the afternoon.    We had an amazing attendant.  The cabanas come with towels, don't check any out from the ship for the cabana. While we were in the water, she would take our old wet towels and swap them out so we had nice new dry towels as soon as we came out of the water.  You will get a special menu.  You can order anything and everything on it.  I got the portabello mushroom sandwich and a salad. I told my hubby of the off the menu chicken parm sandwich,  not on our menu, but they got it for him!  My BIL ordered so much food I was full just listening to his order.  He got a Portabello sandwich, grilled chicken breast, greek salad, funnel cake and salted caramel brownie (he weighs 160 lbs and is 5'9)  You also can go their version of the WJ on Coco Cay

Pima1988 got a reaction from Bob_KY in Coco Cay Cabana Assignments?
They will not know the cabana number on board, at least they did not know when we did it last yr.  We were told that because they can have 2 ships at 1 time at Coco Cay, but  departing ports on different days thus, they no longer allow you to select the cabana, and corporate just sends the list to Coco Cay directly.  Makes sense if you think about it.  IE Anthem leaves on Sat., but will not get to Coco Cay until Tues.  Mariner leaves on Sunday, and will get there Tues. also.  If they allowed you to select on embarkation day, Anthem cruisers would get the 1st pick and Mariner passengers would get what is left over.
What will occur is they will leave a letter in your cabin the night before.  You than make your way to the cabana area.  There will be a hostess/host to greet you.  That is when you will tell them the names of your guests for each cabana.  You don't have to all show up at 1x, only the people that purchase the cabana need to be there 1st because that is when they take the names of everyone allowed in the cabana.  At the welcome station they will also give you the wrist band.  It is a waterproof paper type.  You basically would have to cut it off to take it off....no ability to switch it on and off so you can get other people in.  They will than get your specific cabana attendant to walk you to your exact cabana. They have little chalk boards on the cabana that says your last name.
We did Chill,  it is 2 rows.  I suggest you look at the South Beach layout.  At chill only cabana 10 and 11 would be an issue for you.  10 is front row and 11 is 2nd row right behind 10.
I would also say if you cancel and rebook due to a price decrease BEWARE.  On our cruise we met a very angry passenger at the Solarium pool.  He purchased a cabana on line, but when the price dropped, he canceled and TRIED to rebook at the lower price. However, between the time he canceled and tried to re-book it sold out.   If you do re-pricing my suggestion would be purchase two new ones, and than go back and cancel.  However, I am not sure since both you and your wife both purchase them that you can do that.  My advice would be for you to call RCL directly and explain the situation.  It would be horrible for you if you were able to get 1 and while booking the 2nd somebody popped up online in front of you and took the last cabana
Rebooking will also move your cabana placement because it is tied to your purchase date.  IE you are the 1st to purchase when it is released on the planner.  You will be cabana #1 front row.  6 months later the price drops.  You cancel and rebook.  Now you are cabana # 18 2nd row.  The reason why is they see it as a new purchase.  See above about the angry passenger.

Let's also be real.  I could go to WDW for 5 nights and feel fine.  The day we drive out I start to feel "funky".  We drive (12 hrs) so lots of stops for food and gas.  I abide by wearing a mask at these stops, but take it off to eat at Cracker Barrel, I use hand sanitizer as soon as I sit down. Finished eating, we go and buy some snacks, etc.  still wearing a mask. Never using the bathroom.  What you behind me didn't realize was that I picked up that bag of Munchos and placed them back for that fake cheese popcorn.  You just took that bag of Munchos.  I use the ATM pin pad right before you and you use it without wiping it down.  My germs are on both the Munchos and the ATM pin pad.  I get home the next day and I have CoVid.  You, unwittingly are now at risk.
I already infected a ton of people before I even felt funky just because I was at WDW sitting on that tea cup ride or holding on to the handle at Splash Mountain.  Mask or no mask.  Fact is those germs are on my hands when I wipe my face from sweat.  WDW is not as clean as any cruise ship. Have you even thought about how much you are exposed to at your local grocery store even if they require masks and social distancing?  They are not sanitizing like a cruise ship.  Great example.  When you buy your eggs, do you just grab a carton, or do you take it out, open it up and touch each egg to make sure none are cracked?  If so, you just placed your germs all over that container.  I come behind you 1 min later and do the exact same thing.  How about that eggplant or broccoli, are you taking just the 1st one there, or are you inspecting them and placing it back?  How many germs do you think are there?
Your last comment about barricading is impo now a fact for many cruisers.  I see it from a booking issue.  My SoS May 2021 sailing no longer has any JS balconies left. I will sail as soon as I can.  I believe 1 thing, the day you are born, the day you will die is set.  I have to believe that due to the fact my husband flew fighters for the USAF for 21 yrs and my son is a pilot for USAF now.  I cannot live in fear.  I can live in checking off my bucket list items, such as zip lining, para sailing, and now riding a scooter underwater to see Sea Turtles!

@Pooch  If I am correct, he needs that DD form.  Your TA will than place it into the booking as verification.
I will say my husband served 21 yrs. Our last sailing on Adventure using a TA it came out cheaper.  We had to scan and email her his retired military ID, otherwise she said he had to scan/email that DD form.
He did not have to show his military ID at the port upon check in. Being a retired military member, he rarely pulls out that ID from a security reason aspect.  He uses his passport and DL.

    @dandi799
Our Symphony May 2021 has always been sitting at 79 pp.  However, only yesterday they finally released the Thrill cabana.  To my shock it is 599.  That is the cheapest of cabanas and bungalows.
Cabanas hold up to 8 and the pass is included.  To me, even if I only had 4, this would be my splurge. Do the math.  8 hrs at Coco Cay with a cabana tallies out to 75 per hr.  Now, divide that into how many you have at the cabana. Let's say 6.  That means everybody is paying 12.50 per hr from an excursion aspect.  That is 1 cheap excursion.
Cabanas come with a personal attendant. You have shade covering.  They bring you your food and drinks all day long.  If you have little ones, there are sofas they can nap on.  They have towels and water bottles there so you don't need to bring them off the ship.
We do the beach cabanas, but if Thrill is like the beach, that attendant will be there for you non-stop.  In the a.m. they brought us a plate of fresh fruit slices, not something offered to non-cabana/bungalow guests.  @10:30 they brought the menu, and yes, you can order everything and multiples of everything, get the funnel cake, if you like a vegan option, the Portobello mushroom sandwich is good.  In the p.m. they brought us fruit kebabs, again, not offered to non-cabana guests.  You can bring your blue tooth speaker and play music because it has a usb port.   There is a safe to lock your valuables. For the beach cabanas they have a ceiling fan, not sure if Thrill has that, but I would think in Aug you want that air circulation.  If you have a great attendant, they will track you down to give you the drink you ordered.  Our attendant even would take our old wet towels and replace them with new dry towels.
    Hope that helps.

I mean exactly that.  They will stay in the hotel by the pool thinking they are socially distancing and not go to the theme park, hence, in their mind they are being pro-active.  They are not going to pack up and say let's get out of here, unless they go to the hospital.  They paid $$$ for the family reunion and by dang it they will fight through this, at least for aa day.  Afterall, it might be too much heat, not enough hydration, too much activity, etc. etc.  Just need a "down" day and will feel better.
Yet, WDW and Vegas are allowed to reopen.
The spacious balcony (lower cat) is now running higher than what I got my JS at.  My husband and I have always done balcony.  I personally believe that every cruise line will have to do deep discounts for interior cabins because of that exact fear.
I would also add that is one reason why they will roll out Oasis and Quantum class 1st.  Those ships have a lot more balconies,  A lot more space from a density aspect compared to Freedom class ships.

    ROFLMAO
That is the straw mans' argument.
    1. If that is the true demographic please explain why they have kiddie water play areas and have daycare on board?  Why do they have Pullman beds in certain cabins? Can you really see a 60+ yr old climbing up into a bunk.  Can you see them using the slide in the top level cabin?  The Lego board or the gaming stations?
    2. Disney cruises are aimed to young families, I bet their demographic is more in the 30-40 range than 60+.  Disney theme parks are a go, but not the ships.
    3. My Mom lives in a 55 and over community with a golf course.  She is 83.  She orders pizza to be delivered to her home.  She does not have to wear a mask upon delivery. She is interacting with youngsters.  She has had landscapers at her home and they are in contact with her.   Her friends and neighbors pop by and they don't wear face masks.  They too are out and about in the world.  Yet, not 1 person in her 1500 home community has died of CoVid.  OBTW those pizza delivery people and landscapers are young and are hitting the NJ shore.
    4. I am 55.  When did 60 become at "deaths door"?  Have I had my hip replaced? Yep, but that was due to traumatic injury.  My husband at 56 does P90X every day.  I have already booked some of my excursions for May 2021.  We will be ziplining and doing the BOSS.  Granted I am not over 60, but I believe I am close enough to say BS!
Have I seen people on scooters?  Yes!  Have I seen them at Wal-Mart or my local grocery store too? Yes!  Have I seen them at Disney World? Yes!
My point is those places have the exact same health issues that a cruise ship does.  Do you think that Universal or Disney hotels will not be the same when Grandma and Grandpa pay for the family vacay?   Sure, they can get to a hospital, but be real!  They will suffer through it.  Cruise ship or hotel, if they are feeling under the weather they will stay behind and enjoy the amenities of the property instead of leaving.
    5. I would rather cruise than rent an Air B&B or beach rental.  Cruise lines have to follow CDC.  I don't see that occurring for rentals.  My family, including cousins rent beach houses every yr for family reunions, ages range from 1 to 85.  Want to talk about spreading CoVid there you go!  The houses are cleaned, but impo not to the level of a ship.
