Sitting here in the OBX on a Sunday morning with my mimosa, pretending I'm on a cruise, catching up on RCCL news from the week...anyone else?

Yep...I've been in the OBX for a week, and we have felt the effects of 3 storms...Paulette, Sally, and now Teddy. Dear 2020...enough already! (although...crappy weather at the beach beats crappy weather at home!)

krhardy reacted to Matt in Interesting and a worrying read as I have 2 cruises booked for 2021
That story is pure clickbait. "The Carnival Cruise Ship That Spread Coronavirus Around the World"
Give me a break. Let's conveniently forget that the virus spread across the world on airplanes, which were never stopped at all and given a free pass for being the primary means of transmission from one country or continent to another.

I would think this is one of the things that the healthy sailing panel will be addressing. The number of logistics they will be dealing with is truly mind boggling!

krhardy reacted to Neesa in Shhh, Sharla Manglass MEI Travel
Don't tell anyone please....I have been stalking my "possible sailing" scheduled for Thanksgiving this November because I lost my August VP cabin this past August and I really needed this cabin. (only 1854 or 1804) and both were previously booked so unavailable for this sailing. Of course we have no assurance this sailing will go, BUT it appeared available Friday night, OMG can I switch ?? Enter Sharla our MEI guru, I called her and shot off an email, understanding fully it was after hours so I did all I could do.
Within minutes of my email I received a response simply saying " I'm on it" I was flabbergasted, this amazing lady interrupted her personal evening and secured my preferred cabin, shhh don't tell anyone SHE.IS.AMAZING.
I am so thankful for the day I reached out on this blog and was put in contact with Sharla, I feel like she is more then a TA, she is a friend. Thanks @Matt for being the conduit for our amazing advocate all things Royal, @Sharla. [email protected]
LISTEN CDC, we are more then ready to sail, let's go!

krhardy got a reaction from cruisellama in Cruise cost going forward
MOO (my opinion only)...I think demand is going to be greater than supply, which will drive prices. There are so many people who want to get back on a ship, and have an FCC burning a hole in their pockets. Add in probable reduced capacity allowances, and I think we will see higher prices, especially once a return date is finally officially announced and all the people who have been holding off making bookings start making reservations.

With a teenager-especially a girl-the value of the 2nd bathroom can not be underestimated ?

krhardy reacted to Jill in Changes to baggage drop off?
I don’t know about the actual drop off scenario but I would imagine the luggage will go through a disinfecting process before being loaded on the ship. If you read some of the other cruise lines protocols, they mention the luggage being disinfected.

Its the ultimate tracing task - identify every type of touch point and contact a guest might have - from the point they enter the luggage queue pre-embarkation, to the time they get through customs - post- debarkation. Even more when you consider a pre/post cruise line sponsored excursion.

If I'm reading this right, you have this cruise booked (and rebooked with L&S) and basically you aren't sure if your father in law will actually make the cruise, but do not want to remove him from the reservation for fear it may mess up the low rate you have.
If so, there is no penalty if your father in law doesnt show up for the cruise. You won't get money back for his fare, just a refund on port fees and taxes.
The issue may or may not be the kids in the second room. Therefore, I recommend on paper, you swap names with your wife and father in law. So your father in law is booked in the room with you, and your wife is booked with the kids. No cost to change names (as long as one person from original reservation is on it) and I think that would work if your father in law no-shows.
If he does come on the cruise, it is very easy to just go to Guest Services and swap cards between your wife and father in law.

krhardy reacted to teddy in Travel Insurance on Lifted/Shifted Cruise
FYI for those who have insured trips and are thinking of Lifting/Shifting.
I searched back a few pages to see if this was talked about. I found a thread on travel insurance refunds for cancelled cruises, but nothing about shifted cruises.
Anyway, I woke up last night thinking about how we shifted our November 2020 cruise to November 2021 and were able to get a voucher for our flights, but totally forgot about our trip insurance policy.
Allianz will allow you to change your policy to a rebooked trip (within some parameters). For us, it was as easy as changing the dates on our policy. I received a confirmation email in less than five minutes.
I have only researched Allianz as they are the company we use, but I would think other companies would do the same.
From their FAQs sections:
- If I rebook my trip to a later date, can I apply my travel protection plan from my original trip to the rebooked trip?
Yes, we are happy to allow you to move your plan coverage dates to cover a new or rescheduled trip anytime within 770 days from date of initial insurance purchase. Coverage dates must be updated prior to traveling and prior to any loss for which you seek coverage. There are two options to take advantage of this opportunity:
If you know the date of your rescheduled trip, please visit our Manage a Policy page to update the travel dates associated with your plan. If you do not yet know your new travel dates, let us know by calling us at the number listed on your plan, and we can hold your plan for you to use later. Once you know your new travel dates, please contact us to update your plan's travel dates to cover your new trip. https://www.allianztravelinsurance.com/covid-19-faq.htm
