We've done both. Depends on how we're feeling too. Like being served sometimes, like the multiple offerings of the buffet. Some complain about how long it takes in MDR, but we get a table for 2 so we don't have to wait for others to arrive or finish their courses. We've done MDR in 30 minutes. We've also done formal night in Windjammer.  Full on formal gown and tux. Definitely got some looks that night but the staff, especially the officers, seemed appreciative that we ate with them. Visited our table a little more than any other time we ate there.

The only person I dress to impress is my wife...if she thinks dressing formal is appropriate and she is going to "get dolled up" for dinner then youre damn right Im going to dress nice.  Otherwise I would rather be comfortable and I quit caring about what others think about me a LONG time ago.  Life is so much better when you mind your own business and just live your own life.  If everyone would worry about them, get a job and mind their own business well.....that would fix 90% of the world today.

This is pretty much the way I see it.
    One more thought.....
If a woman wears a 2 piece swim suit into the MDR, I'm not going to say anything. But my wife will.....to me.  Like it's my fault she's there.... ?

Matt, trust me -- after a hot day out and about, everyone downwind of me will know if I'm rewearing something from that day. ?

First off, you are going to love Adventure of the Seas. Next May will be our third time sailing her. Anyway, my best advice (that I will hopefully take myself one day) is that whatever you think you will need, TAKE LESS! For example, our last 7 day cruise I took about 10 tee shirts and used maybe half of that---most of the time was at a beach or pool so just wore a swim shirt and wore collared polos to dinner.  I'm a guy with a wife and 2 daughters and I pack more than any of them. My daughters (adults and small) travel more than us and have packing down to science. They can easily do an 8 day vacation with just a carry on and personal bag. They can't even remember the last time the checked a bag with an airline. I am so jealous and rationalize by saying that their clothes are way smaller than mine.
Take separates that you can mix and match, so wear each piece more than once. No one will notice or care and you can cut your outfits in half. I believe it was @Whizbank that talked about her Rothy shoes. Used them for both casual and dress so cut down on packing shoes--a big space saver there. I looked up Rothy and was sad to see they don't make men's shoes.
Hope I helped a little and happy sailing!

On my last cruise I had the Key Program out of Lauderdale. I too had a 1200 show, which I treated more like a suggestion than a rule, so I ended up at the port at 1030 and looked for the sign that showed the Key entrance...we were probably the first 10 in the line, (not really a line) and checked in within 2 minutes, my wife needed a new picture, and went up to the Key area within 5 minutes - easy-peasy. Was on the ship by 1115 and embarked just behind Pinnacles and Suites. Was at Chops by 1200 and had a very nice lunch.

I must say that I did start to look on the way people dress for during official nights but that only so I will be able to answer questions in this blog on how people dress during official nights in European/far east cruises ?

I signed up just to give a big thumbs up to this post. If you want to sneer at people for dressing smart but not as stuffy as you go find a different cruise line.

I could write a 400-page-book about how sensitivity to others ruined my mother's life… and how not understanding social conventions is ruining mine.
Happily, in the blessed cruise vacation bubble, I forget all of this. This is what vacationing is about...

G string and a "beater" t shirt might get you asked to be a bit more appropriate. I've done nice shorts with collared shirt but GF gets grumbly so usually its Khakis to fill the pants end of things...

I have booked thru the RC website and never had any problems.  We did schedule thru Next Cruise also, just because we were on a cruise and the lower deposit appealed to us to be able to book right away.  But I've done literally everything else myself.

If you have the package, I would just suggest relaxing at the bar and trying some. You have the full menu available, and the sommeliers there can help you pick out options that you'll be most likely to enjoy.
That said, if you're looking for the social aspect as well, then the group activity may still be worth doing. At least on the two sailings I've done so far, Vintages has tended to be a very quiet location with few patrons at any time of the day or night.
