wannabecruiseexpert Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 I'm noticing under the "what to bring" section on the excursion section that it states to bring local currency. This is listed on a lot of the different excursions. Is this specific to just Honduras? I assume this means the local vendors/restaurants/etc do not take USD or visa/mastercard. I have never had to exchange money before so this is new to me. Quote
melmar02 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 We tipped and bought souvenirs in the port area with US dollars in Roatan. We didn't shop outside the area. wannabecruiseexpert 1 Quote

KJones Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 I wouldn't bother with local currencies at Caribbean ports - US dollars are accepted pretty much everywhere, and is sometimes preferred by local vendors. 14Terry and WAAAYTOOO 2 Quote
Va4fam Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 We used US Dollars for a beach excursion at end of September. NO issues at all. Quote
14Terry Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 On all all cruises we've always used US dollars and have never experienced any issues. My fellow cruisers responses here are spot on. Quote
GregD Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 Definitely use US dollars in Roatan. Don't use you credit card if you don't have to. There is a 19% tax added to all CC purchases. ChessE4, TickledBlue and WAAAYTOOO 1 1 1 Quote

ChessE4 Posted January 1, 2022 Report Posted January 1, 2022 The last time we were in Roatan (2019) I wanted to buy some local currency for souvenirs. I noticed in a "straw market" we walked by that Honduran currency could be purchased for US dollars... Quote
