Pamela27 reacted to KWofPerth in Proposing on a Cruise- Adventure of the Seas Nov 25th Sailing
First of all, congratulations and good luck!
Finding a quiet place on deck at sunset would be my suggestion. You get epic sunsets (and sunrises) out at sea, so if you're looking for a more intimate moment, that's what I would do. Possibly at the bow or stern somewhere.
Again, good luck!!

Pamela27 reacted to tiny260 in CROWN AND ANCHOR PROGRAM
On my last cruise I used the diamond concierge twice to resolve issues I had with the ship, I had already spoken to an ship officer (Somebody with gold bars on their shoulders) and gotten no place. I went to the Diamond concierge and she successfully resolved both issues, one was no big issue, I pack a travel fan that helps me sleep, they confiscated it and were not going to let me have it in the room, she fixed that and I got my fan. Second was much worse, my cabin flooded and they said they couldn't move me because the ship was sold out, she got me another Grand suite.
So for me the program works, the free drinks are great and all the other discounts, but to have an advocate on your side to work with the cruise line or the ship is pretty awesome.

I'll be honest, I don't follow your math, but in our example (I'm Diamond) the three free drinks a day for my wife and I (at $12+tax per drink) is worth $594.72 on a seven day cruise. And by going to the Diamond lounge you are not quite limited to just three (thank you staff on Rhapsody!) ...
The Diamond lounge also gives my kids free Shirley Temples and other gifts, and frankly they make them feel like they are the Kings and Queens of the World, and that means a lot to me personally.
The loyalty program weighs on me heavily when I think about trying other cruise lines. So clearly it's effective since I'm normally a cynical bastard. :)

Pamela27 reacted to bcarney in Too big?
We did Oasis once, that was enough for me. It was the cruise where we discovered we cruise for the itinerary and not necessarily the ship. Any 7 day itinerary has to have a minimum of 4 port days otherwise I'm not interested anymore (thought I'd be willing to fudge that for sailings out of, say, Baltimore, due to geography). I love the Voyager class ships (haven't been on Freedom or Quantum class yet), but in the end, it's the islands that is the draw for us.

I saw eight people miss the ship in Aruba. It was kind of fun watching them run down the pier as we pulled away. Normally I'd feel bad, but the ship left an hour late because of a medical emergency, so there was no excuse.

Oh, ok. Good to know about that. Gotta love that auto correct. My sons phone once auto-corrected his ex-girlfriends name to Satan. Alas, the phone turned out to be correct!

Pamela27 reacted to JLMoran in Too big?
More outdoor space and fresh / sea air is definitely a good thing (see: central park on Oasis class). But if the ship is still so big that it can't make it into all the ports, then no bueno.
Of course, there are destinations like Alaska or Norway where they have to keep smaller ships handy in order to navigate the fjords and other tricky spots where the best scenery is hiding. So I would really hope that as ships like the Voyager or Radiance class age out and have to be retired, that the cruise lines would be smart enough to make modern replacements at the same size as those, rather than replacing them with something bigger that can't (fully) reach those destinations any more.
Then again, given that Royal has Celebrity and Azamara as it's mid-level and up-market alternatives, we could be seeing the start of a trend: The lower-end lines in each conglomerate make only mega-ships with limited destinations that cater to families and younger people, and seeing more "exotic" locales that require smaller ships means moving to the mid-level or luxury line in the group.
[edited to fix my grammatical redundancies :P ]

We started with smaller ships and in RC the legend was our first, when we tried the Navigator I found it ok but stated that was as big as I wanted to go - since then we have been on the Indy several times --- ok ok I'm a woman and we can change our minds can't we ;)
I have to admit though I am really not interested in the much larger cruise ships which are now being launched, I suppose I'm a bit of an old fashioned cruiser in that respect and do like to be outside as much as possible when cruising.
Lets face it the air is much fresher out on the sea - it helps my Asthma so much !

This is something I found on another topic but works quite well. These luggage tags on Amazon make it easy so you don't need tape or staplers. I used them on my last trip, they look so much more professional.

The vinyl luggage sleeves/tags sold on Amazon are great. You simply slip your paper tags into the clear sleeve and attach it to your luggage after you retrieve your luggage from the carousel. It has a strong cable cord so it cannot be ripped off the luggage. Check it out by searching "cruise luggage tags" You won't regret it

Pamela27 reacted to KLA in Another "included" perk being removed......
I guess to me, the charge for room service outside of morning coffee delivery really just isn't a big deal to me. If I want a snack, I'd be more compelled to make a quick Windjammer or Cafe Promenade run rather than sit in my room and wait for something from a very limited menu to be brought to me. I can grab a drink while I'm out, too!

Pamela27 reacted to monorailmedic in Charging Phones
On newer ships (and some redone staterooms on other ships), you have to put a card into a slot near your dear to keep the stateroom powered. The idea is that you won't use electricity while not in the room if you put your seapass card in the slot.
As mentioned, you can put any card in this slot and it will work.
Ultimately, to answer your question, no, the outlets will not turn off when you power the lights off at night.

Pamela27 reacted to Gears in Things You Have Learned To Do On A Cruise.
On the taboo topic of exercise...
Like to go for a walk but don't because the "track" is unusable with the crowds, chairs and heat? On Freedom class and Voyager class ships go down to deck 4. Go outside and start walking. A lap of the ship will take you up front to the helipad and all the way to the very aft end of the ship. A lap of a Freedom class ship is getting close to a half mile.
Whether you just need to walk off a session of Johnny Rockets or you want to put your power walking shoes on, deck 4 is the best place. It can get windy sometimes, but you usually won't find many people there.

Pamela27 got a reaction from bcarney in Favorite ship?
My fav ship is Adventure, been on her 7 times. Been on vision, splendour, indy and navigator. Bigger ships don't appeal to us. We prefer Voyager class.
