    HUGE NEWS FOR CANADIANS!!!!

Just announced they are looking at starting rapid testing at airports in Canada that would result in only a 48 hr quarantine if you test negative with a rapid test....starting Nov 2nd in Calgary International Airport.

Fingers crossed this will be successful and rolled out across Canada...it would be a travel game change for Canadians!!!!

Ding! Ding! We don't have any interest to get on a cruise ship as transportation to a land resort. Not our personal interest when it comes to cruising. Other's mileage may vary.

I think in general...reduced capacity (for the foreseeable future) will result in reduced numbers @ CocoCay in comparison to their original plan...unless they start pushing more ships and/or capacity there.

For me, CocoCay or a day in a real port will ALWAYS go the direction of selecting an itinerary that has the port (even if it is a multi-time repeat location).

I'm not seeing it as less cruising out of SJU as much as RCL trying to jam as many people as possible to CocoCay.

I fully agree however as a committed European I think we need to stop closing borders.
There is frankly no evidence to suggest that me travelling from one location to another helps spread the virus.
The virus is everywhere and people travelling will not make any significant difference.

That verbiage is likely coming from someone at the CDC.  The CDC has publicly stated that ships should not sail until the virus is completely over.  I've interpreted that to mean the CDC doesn't want ships sailing until well into 2022 or 2023 when the last remnant of the virus has disappeared which is what I believe the CDC's end game really is.  The CDC would be perfectly fine if all cruise ships vanished from the earth.  This is their opportunity to create that outcome.

Norway will be a Radiance class ship. Certainly fewer things for teens to do in comparison to larger ships. And you're getting into 'Arctic Circle' zone. You might also be too close to the bow thrusters...no CK. 🙂
Teens in July...I would go with the Greek Isles.
    No teens...Norway.

Not everything is black or white, hard left or hard right.  Plenty of us live in the middle of the political spectrum.  Being centered means liking some things from one party and liking other things from the other party.  Nothing everything coming from either party is 100% congruent with my thinking.  Not enjoying all the theatrics of some key players doesn't equate to automatically objecting to everything they do for no reason other than they did it.
I want to see cruises start up again in America.  They need to save the industry and to keep all the workers in related industries with food on their family's table.  If cruises restart and there are massive outbreaks that result then we can look to address that situation but we should not assume that outcome is inevitable.
Florida opened a little too much this past summer and when the numbers went up they scaled back.  They didn't lock down when the numbers spiked, they let off the accelerator and numbers came down.  The cruise industry needs the same opportunity.  With everything we have learned and what treatments work it's time to give the cruise industry an opportunity to display they can operate safely.  If numbers trend up as a result then they can scale back without going full lockdown on the entire cruise industry.  If Carnival has outbreaks don't lock down Royal or NCL, deal with Carnival's failures while learning from the lines that aren't having outbreaks.

Marginally.  It is a very sad story with a very unfortunate outcome; but there should be no expectation that this type of illness to be successfully diagnosed and treated on a cruise ship. Sorry, but just sensationalist click bait.

There will no doubt be nuances and details to be worked out. This is also a proposal document, not a firm implementation plan yet.
I have a hard time thinking they will discontinue consecutive cruises. After all, they know where you've been.
Personally, I would sit tight and let them tell you different from what you have booked if that ends up being the case. You will in all likelihood get something out of it if that happens.
Full disclosure, we're B2B in Feb/Mar out of San Juan. No intention of changing or cancelling anything by us.

Gears reacted to Snowchaser in COVID Rules: A Fun Discussion
I'm just a casual forum reader and rarely get drawn into many topics but you seem to have some sort of vendetta/bias towards the U.S that is largely based on personal opinion.  Currently the percentage of people who have or have had Covid stateside is ~1.76%, no where near 10%.   Different countries have implemented different strategies for containment and it is what it is.  Cruise protocols will be implemented and those who wish to travel will be obligated follow those protocols or not travel.  Ultimately if you are uncomfortable with the rules in place stateside, you have to do what's best for you and your family and then decide if you want to cruise from a U.S port.

Gears reacted to twangster in Cruise cost going forward
A lot has changed since the days when they faced a question about sailing at reduced capacity during an investor call.  Keep in the mind the response was an answer to a question on the spot, it wasn't an announcement that this was an intention developed as a formal policy derived after days of effort by a working group.  It was a response to a question that took seconds to think up on the spot that many have since extrapolated a lot from.
That was months ago when there was some hope that cruising would have resumed by now.  Fast forward to today and if asked the same question there may be a different answer.
With 5 minute testing and a vaccine on the verge of becoming real the requirements to operate at reduced capacity have changed.   This is an example of many things the Healthy Sail Panel will evaluate.
I think it unwise to speculate about capacity reductions or any approach to a resumption of cruising until the Healthy Sail Panel finishes their work.   We'll know when they know.  Right now Royal doesn't know and I doubt they are using unknowns to adjust cabin pricing.  There have always been a lot of revenue management algorithms in use that are probably being driven wonky with pandemic induced booking trends that the algorithms were never intended to deal with.

Hubby said that we switched over from the Gold to the Signature Rewards card because the Signature card covers a bit more for travel insurance and also a second card was free. With the Gold card, we had to pay an extra fee for my card. I cannot remember if the annual fee was lower as well, but that is easily accessible on the RBC site. We currently still have both the Gold and Signature but we predominantly use the Signature card for all things cruising and vacations.

    Correct, that's RBC Bank.

The RBC Gold USD Visa is offered by RBC Royal Bank (Canada) and is not connected to RBC Bank (USA).

Ask RBC about how to pay an RBC Gold USD Visa. That is still a US based entity. As a result, you won't be able to pay it from your online banking (which is Canada based). You would have to send them a USD cheque or pay in branch. Unless RBC has suddenly been able to add 'US bills' to it's payee list...
