  1. It has been our experience that if you redeem online you get the credit applied a few weeks before you sail.  We have found that if you call them they will apply onboard credit within a few days of when you call.  They explained to me once they wait because if you cancel your cruise it is hard to refund your onboard credit back.  The onboard credit awarded by the card is the same as cash, so if you do not use it all it will be refunded to you in cash as the end of the cruise.

My favorite St Marten beach is Orient. There is a clothing optional section of the beach, the majority of the beach requires a swimsuit. Though I have never been there, a few locals I asked said Le Galion is their favorite. Maho beach is great for plane watching but there is very little sand to lay on and many boulders. Mullet Bay beach is near Maho but no view/noise of the planes. Large waves the time I was there. In view of the cruise port close to Fort Amsterdam is Divi Little Bay beach resort which for a reasonable cost allows you access to chair/umbrella and, I believe, their pool.

What is everyone's experience with cruising out of Galveston. Thinking about swapping the Freedom August 2021 sailing for Liberty (same week). Itinerary doesn't matter as we have been to all of the ports for both ships. We have not sailed either one before. Both ships are post amp except Liberty is 2 extra days and about $800 cheaper. Flying from DTW but flights are probably going to be about the same to go to either HOU or EWR (using 2020 pricing as a guide). Any thoughts?

Late to your post.  We have been on both ships … basically the same ship.   Galveston is a cool town and there is a lot of things to do between Houston and Galveston.  As you normally fly from Detroit.  I would suggest flying Southwest (HOU).  You will save a lot on airfare vs. IAH.  Hobby Airport is much closer to Galveston.  As Twangster pointed out you can stay at the Airport and take the Shuttle out the day of or there a good options in-between (shopping or space center) or you can proceed and stay at the Island.  You will find you will have a strong Midwestern and Tx crowd.  But just like middle Canada we tend to be more fun and easy going. :27_sunglasses:  So saving on flights + cruise fare + good people makes up for the 1 hour commute from the airport to the port.  Best of luck.

They didn’t give our sons their own room... Technically, hubby and one son in one room, me and my other son in a second room.

This might work to your advantage if one of the adults wants the drink package.  As you are not required to buy packages for all in the cabin for minors.  So say hubby wants package and you don't … He can purchase it and the son doesn't have to buy anything.

You are all so helpful, I was hoping to have a few random questions answered... I searched the forum for answers, but I couldn’t seem to find them.  We’re going on our first cruise in December on Serenade of the Seas.  (Well, first since I was teenager, and now I’m bringing my own teenage and 20yr old sons!) Sorry for all the questions, hopefully it’s okay. Thanks for any help ?

    1. Drink packages. Can we buy them on a daily basis while onboard, just for one day here and there?  (Rather than buying it all at once for the entire duration of the trip)  Not allowed  … you can buy it during the cruise (i.e. say starting day 3) but you will be required to pay for the rest of the cruise.  This is all at the higher "onboard rate"/
    2. Bringing drinks onboard. I read that you can bring 12 non-alcoholic standard size beverages onboard per stateroom. Does this have to be inside our carry-on luggage? Or can we simply carry it on, not packed?  Per the rules … must be in your carry on.
    3. Are there mini fridges in your room? (We are in a couple of ocean view staterooms).  Depends on the ship … but most yes
    4. When the ship is in port are you free to come and go (on & off) the ship as you please? Yes
    5. Excursions. How are your ID, cash/credit cards, etc., kept safe when you’re, say, snorkeling?  Just with your belongings  … you need to plan accordly
    6. We have two GTY ocean view staterooms... Is there anyway to make sure they are close together? (Or better yet, connected? Wishful thinking, I’m sure!)  You can request them to be changed once they are assigned.  Same Class … but probably not likely.
    7. Excursion packages all say to make sure you bring your Sea Pass and photo ID... What about minors? My 15yr old doesn’t have photo identification except his passport, and we don’t want to be taking that on excursions. Will he be okay with just his Sea Pass? (and his parents vouching for him? Lol)

Thanks everyone! Any help is much appreciated.  I just want to make sure we are all set, and I’m trying to keep my anxiety levels at bay ?

See above.  Welcome to the boards

If you require medical equipment such as a CPAP or other medical appliance you can request an extension cord and Royal will provide one.  In the case of CPAP needs they also provide a gallon of distilled water.  These can be requested ahead of time or from your cabin attendant on the first day.

Since the banning of extension cords and power bars and with the hope of avoiding one of Royal's '25 Orange Extension Cords I have done the following:

    - For my CPAP I bought a 15' cord to replace the standard 6' cord that goes from the outlet to the power transformer block .  You can buy them on Amazon as they are the same cords used for TVs and some computers.

    - I bought a 220v plug adapter with USB ports.  This allow for an additional plug at the desk for dual voltage devices as well as 2 spots for charging phone, tablets etc.

    - Lastly, I went to the hardware store and bought an old fashioned 1 to 3 square block 110v adapter.

These days as most things are USB powered … having 5 standard outlets and 2 USB outlets is all we need.  Total investment was less than $20.

I wasn’t sure what a PNR was either, google says it’s a passenger name record (had never heard of that before!)

A PNR # is a 6 digit A/N code that is used to identify you, from purchase to you boarding in all of the airline systems.  It goes back to the days when Travel Agents booked tickets for you.  The problem with reservation #s it is usually unique to the organization who sold you the ticket.  i.e. Air2Sea, Priceline or the specific airline.  The PNR code as it is known, is what is unique to you with each airline with all of that airline's systems.

As stated, some airline's systems allow you to use multiple ways to look up your reservations (name, reservation #, PNR code) ... some don't.  The PNR Code is the industry standard for all airlines.

  8. For FWIW, you can call the RC Visa Cruise Credit Department and ask for you onboard credit to be applied to your cruise account earlier than 14 days prior to departure.  It helps with making Cruise Planner purchases earlier during sales.  The reason they wait in posting is that if for some reason you had to cancel your cruise, you lose your Onboard Credit as BOA considers it a non-refundable gift certificate.  You have to work with RC to get it applied to another cruise.  In the old days you didn't get the credit until the second day of the cruise.

For those of you that bring wine aboard in your carry on, what type of wine protectors do you recommend?

Wine Skins from Amazon.  They are a combo of bubble wrap and a sealable heavy duty  ziplock.  As we have to fly we use them in suitcase then pull them out and put in string bags for carrying to ship.

On one cruise we encountered a couple who had a wine bottle break during a flight all over their clothes.

Does anybody also know when they issue you a flight booking reference to check in? Super confused with the cruise package process at the moment haha.

A booking # (PNR Code) is generated when your flight is paid for.

When we have booked with Air2Sea we did it through our Travel Agent.  She provided us the PNR code.  We then went directly to Delta and selected seas and entered our SkyMiles #.

How did you book your flight?  If nothing else contact Air2Sea and they should be able to provide you the booking #.  Are you sure it is not on your receipt?
