I agree with the XL for Uber or Lyft. The rates are reasonable, from the port to South Beach are about $15-20, same to parts of Little Havana.

I agree. Uber XL will be larger.  Some of the “regular” size cars can’t hold more than 2 large pieces of luggage, if even that!  I find Uber to be reasonable most of the time.  Taxis, well I’m originally from NYC, I’ve seen those meters run up, I’d prefer to know what I’m paying instead of finding out when I get there.

We took an UberXL on our last cruise from Miami. With three people and luggage I would not go smaller than the XL.

Most def! They are so great about accommodating guests! If you see something that is not on what you ordered, they will be happy to bring you that, too!

I had no issues with that, just having got off Brilliance this week. I swapped out veggies, changed potatoes, mixed and matched as I wanted with no issues. They are very accommodating.

    Happy Cruising!

FYI: Many of the bars may also issue your cups to you. Most recently on Quantum this past August, we got ours at the Harp & Horn.

Exactly this. If you have an early boarding time and plan to go to the Windjammer for lunch upon boarding, the bar in Windjammer is a convenient place to pick it up.
Don't stop at the table where they are selling drink packages. They only have tumblers for new purchases.

yes.  It doesn't have to be just used on the machines.  Any of the bars will fill it up.

Here is a video from Royal that shows the the "Home" menu of beverages available along with the several "add-in" flavors available with each choice.

Windjammer does have a bar where you can get soda if you don't want to use the FreeStyle machines. You can also ask a roaming server that's bringing around drinks or clearing off tables and they will go get you soda.
Some Sorrentos do have bar right there and some do not. It's different on each ship.
Boardwalk Dog House on Oasis class ships has a cooler with canned soda that you can get with the package.  On other classes of ships they may have some drinks available in the cooler, otherwise you'll have to visit a nearby bar to get a soda.  On Quantum class ships there's a FreeStyle machine located at the Dog House, but again, they may also have drinks in the cooler.

The comment above mine is not true. Most people don't even carry the cup around. You only need the cup if you are using the freestyle machines, because it has a chip that activates the machine, BUT you can show you pass to any bar or server and get any drink you want and it will still be included on your package. The bars will serve you a soda or any drink they have in a glass or cup and then swipe your card, see that you have a package and your'e good to go.

    Welcome,
You will need to go get your cup if you want soda. The restaurants all have complimentary flavored water ice tea lemonade for anyone.
    Enjoy!

Hi all, I'm new to cruising, so just had some inquiries. I have the drink package, which I understand they give you the souvenir cup to fill at the coca cola machine.

My question is, let's say I'm at the Sorrentos or Windjammer and I forgot to bring my souvenir cup, does Sorrento's or Windjammer serve sodas that I can have?
If I wanted a soda but forgot to bring my souvenir cup, does Sorrentos and Windjammer provide soda still? Anyone that can clarify this and give and feedback would be greatly appreciated at this time. Thanks. Time.

You can't get drinks delivered to your room with any package. However, you can pick up bottles and bring them back to the room. Make it a habit of swinging by a bar on your way back to the cabin and grabbing a bottle of water.

Jayhoaps reacted to Tony Sky in Going on Allure and not spending a dime on dinner
    Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and this is my first post.  I have half a mind to delete this because it might be a little strong for a first post- LOL!  The last time I cruised was on Explorer back in 2006.  I recently booked my family on Allure going to Roatan and Mexico in March.  It's a surprise and I'm excited to see my kids faces when we get dropped off at the cruise port and they see the ship for the first time.  "Yep WE are going on THAT!"
One thing I've noticed since 2006 is that things seem much more complicated with the add ons and tack on fees and complex reservations etc. It's kind of made me half crazy and anything, but relaxed.   "Manage your cruise" What?  Isn't that sort of what I'm paying you a whole lot of money for, Royal Carribean?
When I last cruised my wife and I did one night at Portofinos which was a restaurant that used to be on the Explorer.  The food was good I'm sure of that, but I don't even remember how it tasted these years later or what I ate.  Here is what I do remember: the fun we had with our dinning room waiter and tablemates. We still laugh about them to this day!  The cabin attendents making towel animals and the bartenders, and looking out at the ocean, the sailaway party and the New Yorkers saying "Heyyyy! it's the Verrazzano!!!" as we glided underneath the bridge on the start of our carribean adventure.
As soon as I booked Allure, I was introduced the the Key program and dining packages which are not cheap!  Forgive me for saying this but it seems like a rude bait and switch.  A cruise should be about hospitality and abundance and the Key program introduces scarcity...that little fear that you know "they really are short on Flowrider time and show tickets and if you want your kids to be able to try it you need to give us $160 a day for 7 days..."

Honestly, I'm not trying to be cynical, perhaps this is the way it is and I'm making a "rookie" mistake in this day and age, but I'm taking a different approach so tell me if you think this could still work.
    1.  We're going to eat in the MDR and have fun at dinner.  We're going to eat at the Windjammer and try to find a nice table near a window and try food from around the world.
    2. We're going to eat soft serve ice cream at 2 o'clock every single day!
    3. We'll eat Sorrentos and the Park Deli.
    4. We're going to look up at the stars at night and go for walks around the ship.  Maybe watch a movie!
    5. We're going to get up early and watch the sun come up over the ocean and whisper a quick prayer or two.
    6. We're going go to the pools and shoot hoops in the middle of the carribean sea and play ping pong and do the flowrider and have mini golf
tournaments everyday with prizes I'll be giving out.
    7. We'll book some shows and hope we get seats.  It'll be great if even one of my kids begins to love theather.
    8. We're going to enjoy time together and walk up to the bow of the ship and stand on the helicopter pad.  We're NOT going to have internet.
    9. I'll buy my daughter some candy-- Ok there's 7 bucks, I can't say no!
    10. We'll spend money doing excursions and see some Mayan ruins and enjoy being in another country and play on the beaches.

I just want to be together with my family on an already great ship. Let me know if I've got this wrong.  Thanks, T.

I recommend searching this site for similar threads to get more opinions but here's a quick summary.  By buying a dining package, you are paying a lower price but the trade off is you have to make all your reservations on board.  If you are the type of person whose meal will be ruined by dining at 6:15PM instead of 6PM, you should probably not buy a package, just make the exact reservations you need.  If you accept some flexibility in dining time and location, you can save some money.
With a package, you cannot guarantee what restaurant you will get the first night (or any other night).  However, MOST people report they can get all the restaurants and times they want as long as they prioritize making their reservations soon after boarding the ship.  Go into the process with an idea of what you want by studying the entertainment schedules from previous cruises (you can find them posted here or join various facebook groups for your cruise and the ones before it with similar itineraries).
I'll ease your mind on one thing, they won't assign you Johnny Rockets.  That's a restaurant, but not one you can reserve.
