Chadster reacted to wozswoman in NO unlimited dining package available on Oasis of the Sea for end of Sept? Sold out?
The packages came back but after looking at the MDR menu I was content with what was on it. I'm good eating escargot every day along with French Onion soup and steak. LOL

Chadster reacted to WAAAYTOOO in NJ Cruising-restrictions/requirements for Covid and how rough is the sailing to the Caribbean?
As I recall, this was the "incident" that prompted Royal to hire James VanFleet.

Happy to see such a tough experience didn't impact your love for cruising! Rough seas is something I pray will never be encountered when cruising with my husband...that would end his cruise life forever (and we have just begun these adventures)! It wouldn't deter me and I would absolutely want to keep cruising...so guess I would end up a SOLO cruiser ? at that point, or perhaps take a grandchild or two or ... with me!

The worst seas I have ever experienced were coming out of Bayonne...but that was also due to sailing directly into a nor'easter. We were on Explorer in the late fall (Nov I think). I thought for sure we were doomed. The big waves took out 2 lifeboats, flooded the elevators midship and blew out a glass door midship (which is why the elevators flooded !!). Had the ship been sailing at capacity, we would not have been allowed into our ports of call, but fortunately, we were not (at capacity) and the sidelined lifeboats did not present a problem. After we made it through the storm, the next days of sailing were some of the smoothest I have ever experienced. Those first 2 days and 3 nights though.....yikes !

Chadster reacted to Matt in Any problems getting pre-boarding testing in time?
Nope.
On the cvs website it says they charge your insurance or the federal government

Chadster reacted to Fairlynew in Alaska pre-planning question...
Glacier Bay is awesome. I was on Princess in 2011. The inside passage was also great. Skagway was my favorite port. Ketchikan was not so great. I am heading out Friday-assuming a negative covid test tomorrow on ovation. Chose this for ship, Skagway and inside passage.
gping with friends because my husband does not want to go again. He got “tired of all the pretty scenery”

Okay, so you're not responsible...you were actually helpful -- as was everybody in this thread. The 7-night multi-glacier trip aboard Serenade in May 2022 checks even more boxes than my previously planned 8-day trip...so I'm even more excited now. ?

It may be boring…but I love it! I know I’m a bit geeky about it but….I can’t get enough of planning, scheduling, researching and talking about cruising. You’re right! The obsession is exhausting but wonderful! Being a Cruisaholic is a gift! Enjoy it!! LOL?

I just checked cruise planner and I GOT IT. Thanks to all that chimed in!

Chadster reacted to KaydenDeen in Best Price Guarantee Question
I may have you beat in the “boring” department @SpeedNoodles I think I left my life behind when I started planning this trip. Seriously. I check this blog, the official Royal Caribbean website, Royal Caribbean news and the status of my RoyalUp bid a million times a day. Doesn’t get much more boring than that. Gosh, being obsessed with cruising is exhausting. LOL.

Bayonne is my home port and most of my sailings are on the Anthem. It’s quite a treat when the captain decides to turn upriver after leaving the dock instead of heading right for the Verrazano Bridge. Especially at night when the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty is lit up. Having the huge, beautiful Oasis doing it shows NY/NJ that Royal is back!?

She departed from the port right on time at 7PM, headed up river to turn around next to the Statue of Liberty, and passed under the bridge into the ocean at about 8:15.

Thought I’d show you all the pictures I got from Cape Liberty, New Jersey of Oasis finally in port. I’m aboard her on September 5th and I was amazing how massive she actually is!

This may be the greatest thread of tips I have gleaned from this forum.
I shall be over here eagerly awaiting the nights I can consume Key Lime pie to my heart's content. Yes, I will always have room for that particular dessert. ? I suppose I shall endeavor to figure out the trivial things like appetizers and the "main course" as well. ?

That's what I'm doing next year - the multi-glacier on Serenade!

Chadster reacted to BrianB in Same Day Flight
“To cruise or not to cruise…that was the question. Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of schedule-conflicted cruises, or to make reservations against a sea of uncertainty, and, by cancelling, end them?”…my buddy Billy Shakespeare said that while considering a river cruise on the Thames back in the 1570’s. It gave him the idea for a play!?

Did you hear that @Matt? I am not responsible for this one! ?
If Serenade does those same multi-glacier itineraries the following year, that is what I most likely will end up on too.

Chadster got a reaction from WAAAYTOOO in So...YOLO booking is real...
So, small YOLO update:
Instead of cruising to Alaska aboard Ovation for 8 nights on 5/5/22, I'll be cruising to Alaska on Serenade for 7 nights on 5/1/22...in a corner aft balcony. I had this spot on a COVID-cancelled cruise, and I was so very sad I missed out on it...so to get to do it this time in a place where aft balconies are even more delightful than normal...I'm thrilled. Plus, the logistics of flying into and flying out of Vancouver instead of having to deal with 2 ports relieves a bit of stress from my life. Extra day in Vancouver post-cruise to get to experience the city, too! Extra YOLO -- I've always wanted to visit Vancouver!

Chadster got a reaction from JC Pats in So...YOLO booking is real...
I sorta went on a bit of a spree with some money I've had socked away, and now I can attest to the fact that YOLO booking is indeed a thing. ?
September 26, 2021: Oasis out of Cape Liberty (7 days)
December 24, 2021: Anthem out of Cape Liberty (Christmas at sea!) (7 days)
December 31, 2021: Anthem out of Cape Liberty again! (Why not be at sea to welcome in 2022?) (9 days)
UPDATED AFTER SAGE FORUM ADVICE: May 1, 2022: Serenade out of Vancouver (North to Alaska...and back...) (7 days)
All of these happen during breaks for me with school and will celebrate milestones in said schooling since I'm getting toward the final phase.
If they all go off without a hitch, I'll be Diamond for the second leg of the holiday B2B and Diamond Plus at the end of the Alaska cruise; the one on Oasis will be my first Royal cruise (not for a lack of trying over the last 18 months!). These points will apparently really stack up with the bonus and because I'm cruising solo.
You people are a bad influence! ?

You can't miss it. The Red Dog Saloon is one of the more prominent buildings in Juneau (because it's pretty bordello-looking and there are a zillion people in and out of it's swinging doors), and you pretty much pass it if you're going to walk into town at all. We walked in once, and just turned around and left - just not our thing, but it's super popular. We tend to walk just a little farther into town, past all of the Diamond Internationals, and sit at the Alaskan Hotel bar. We're usually one of just a few tourists in the place, so talking to locals is pretty fun. Mr. SpeedNoodles did nearly get mugged outside of it once, though, but that happens everywhere, right?
