Chadster got a reaction from Pattycruise in Different rooms available for solo vs. booking "2"-person cabin...what to do?
So, just an update; the other night, I put a courtesy hold on the connecting interior room. Tonight, I decided to look to see if anything else had opened up, knowing I could still fall back on the connecting room if need be. I've been so busy at work this week, I hadn't had time to reach out to my TA.
Tonight, I decided to just take a look and see what the situation looked like...
I was able to snag a Deck 6 forward non-connecting cabin for less money and more onboard credit! There's not enough of a difference when figuring in the tax/fee refund if I booked a two-person room and had one "mysteriously" not show up.
It pays to obsessively check the cruise situation, I guess! 😄
Thanks again for the input, all!

Thanks for the advice, all! I'll do some figuring based on the helpful information from Pat (I'm so psyched to see you among the Symphony group -- glad we're going to get at least part of the band back together; I've missed y'all! 😃), and probably check in with my TA to double-check my math and other details.

Get a hold of a travel agent and they should be able to get the best deal figured out for you.

I have had that in the past and when we called in they were able to book the room for one. I have also seen where they have GTY cabins for 2 but not 1. I called in and got the GTY price for one. Anytime you see things like that call in or have your TA call and you should be able to get it. I always have.

Hey Chad!
you are correct-if you book a sailing as 2 in the cabin you will not get double points like you would if you were to book solo in a cabin designed to hold 2 people.
It would seem to me you should look at the costs-and then weigh if the cabin location for 2 is more important if the costs are similar etc.
I would price the cabin for 1 and note the port fees and taxes part.
Then look at the cabin for 2 and subtract the 1 person $ for port fees and taxes. This should give you an idea if the value Is there albeit you are looking at 2 different categories of cabins when you do this-as typically a plain interior cabin is cheaper than a promenade-even if the promenade is connecting.
Side note, I had a connecting promenade cabin on deck 6. I prefer this to a regular interior. (I would have preferred a promenade on deck 7 or 8 as those are just cabins above and below but I chose wisely with my options on deck 6) I was just careful as to what was below me when booking. I was in 6323 and it was quiet. I also don’t go to bed early so the late night promenade parties didn’t bother me.
See you on Symphony!

A pirate walked into a seaside tavern and asked for a drink. The bartender, turned away from the bar when the buccaneer walked in, pours the drink, but nearly drops it when he notices the sailor has a giant ship's wheel stuck to the front of his pants.
"Uh, capn'," the bartender says, "I hope you don't mind me askin', but what's with that-thar wheel?"
"Arrr...this thing?" The pirate asks. "|t drives me nuts."

Thanks for posting this. Sorry you went through it and glad it worked out without any ongoing serious medical issues. Good to see Allianz works as advertised. Insurance is a must have!

Thank you to Matt and everybody who was always extoling the virtues of travel insurance! Earlier this year I invested in an annual plan, and I'm so glad I did...
I was on a B2B in early November, and the last day of the last leg, I started feeling awful when I first woke up; it felt like a very upset stomach and severe heartburn. It came and went as the day went on, but at dinner, I could barely eat, and finally, I sadly had to bid farewell to my dining companions and I headed off to the ship clinic.
A battery of tests, several IVs, and hours in sickbay later, the doctor was concerned it was an inflamed appendix. 😵 He arranged for me to be evacuated via ambulance when the ship arrived in Port Canaveral. Let me tell you, that sickbay ICU bed and its weren't anywhere near as nice as my aft cabin! I had gone to the clinic early in the evening, so when he first brought up having me medically evacuated, my concern was immediately that I was somehow going to ruin everyone's cruise due to a hasty return. Thankfully, we were close enough that he just kept me plied with pain meds and antibiotics, and we reached Port Canaveral on schedule.
The shoreside docs thankfully determined that nothing had ruptured -- I just had a rather nasty digestive issue. I was sent home with antibiotics. My medical insurance is covering the shoreside medical care thus far, but without travel insurance, my cruise would've been nearly $400 more expensive. 😱 Thankfully, Allianz reviewed and approved my claim in approximately 2 weeks after the incident, and I was reimbursed for the shipboard care in full (for those who don't know, they tack the onboard medical expenses onto your cruise statement). If I have anything that my regular insurance doesn't end up covering, I'll submit the amended claim to Allianz for reimbursement.
Moral of the story: GET TRAVEL INSURANCE!

Oh my goodness ! So glad to hear that you were able to get good care so quickly. Hopefully you will make a full recovery without surgery. Delighted to hear that the insurance did exactly what it’s supposed to do and that you were fully covered. Continued recovery !

A grasshopper hops into a bar and orders a beer.
The bartender's a bit taken aback. "A beer? Ya sure, pal? Y'know...we've got a drink named after you!"
"Oh, yeah?" the insect asks. "You've got a drink called 'Irving'?"

They really like bringing it down to the wire on these things, don't they? Glad they extended, though -- it definitely helps me out, though I do wish they'd have it cover sailings through September 30, 2022, just to be in sync with the FCCs.

Digging up this old thread...
I was wondering why "CHOICE" was next to "DIAMOND" on my SetSail Pass. The only time I was at the casino was when I used my $6.00 free play.
Where do I go from here... HIGH ROLLER?

Chadster reacted to Sharla in Resident NRD?
Yep, resident discount. I have no idea the cruises Royal decides to give them on, but it seems like 2022 doesn't really have them right now. As with any reprice the resident discount could make the price go down, but it's at prevailing rates so the overall cruise care could also rise, I don't know how their algorithms work.

Chadster got a reaction from whitsmom in Interesting reservation system quirk...
I was mock YOLO booking a cruise that leaves on Halloween, and I was surprised to see that merely paying the deposit today was an option. I scrolled to the bottom after selecting the option just out of curiosity, and I was even more surprised to see this...
The final payment would be due on departure day. And if I'm remembering my cruise contracts correctly, aren't final payments due by 5 p.m. on the stated due date? The ship is scheduled to depart at 6 p.m. I'm guessing that the system is extending a "courtesy hold" of sorts because of a deposit being placed.
No real question or anything here -- I just saw it and thought I'd share this interesting discovery! Talk about a trick, a treat, or both! 😄
