Would be nice if this was available on all ships, now, seems to be taking forever to roll it out
...and even when they roll it out, it seems glitchy.

The main differences between bars/Restaurants (who believed they allow smoking in Restaurants few years ago , amazing) is that the ban was done on all places at once , here each cruise line will be afraid to be the one that will announce the ban and the competitors will get the 15% (and I guess much more in casino money). So to ban indoor in cruise line they will need to be coordinated.
Think if only 70% of the bars would accept the ban , most of the smokers would go directly to the one that did not accept it ...
Agreed

Thanks, Jay ! Glad to hear that the Event didn't cause any issues for you.

Thank you for providing this information !!

I love it when we get the first Genie email. I know it's really going to happen, then !!
I usually do not write a LOT in my emails but I do write a LOT of emails to the Genie. I'm sure that Joyce is extremely pleased that I am not bugging the s**t out of her right now, since I am away on travel (hello from beautiful Bahrain, BTW !!). I actually think the Genies appreciate it when you communicate your "wishes" to them...that way they do not have to guess about what you want. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part - a way to soothe my guilty, overly verbose, conscience. LOL
IMO, the only information that you really NEED to provide to the Genie is what you want to happen on boarding day. All of the subsequent days you can play by ear but boarding day will go much more smoothly if they know what you need for them to handle up front. There are certain particular exceptions such as any requests for Labadee cabanas, etc but those are fairly few. I believe that there are few requests that you might make that will be truly unique to the Genie. I have yet to have a Genie say to me, "WOW ! You are the first person who ever asked me to do THAT !"
Allow me to interject a small personal anecdote here. Since I AM in the Middle East, I purchased a beautiful Aladdin's Lamp today for my Genie gift. Do you think that is a totally lame gift ? It's not large (being mindful of the lack of personal space that Genie's have in their room) - maybe 6-8 inches from end-to-end. I think it's lovely. Joyce may hate it. It was an impulse buy (as were the 7 Pashmina wraps, the 5 beautiful hand made Turkish bowls/platters...and the gorgeous opal ring....that I bought, courtesy of the awesome local souq !!). I always have trouble with the Genie gifts. I saw this and thought immediately of Joyce. I guess that's a good thing... ??

Jay, did you feel that the fact that this was a President's cruise caused you any inconveniences ? Any events that you wanted to see cancelled ? Anywhere that you wanted to go, that you were denied ? Any places you felt were extremely crowded that might not have been on a different cruise ?

We purchased the UDP on our upcoming Brilliance sailing over Thanksgiving. I noticed, when I went into my cruise planner calendar, that they show me eating at Chops Grill on night #1 so I have to assume that they have assigned me Chops Grill for my first night. Since we will be eating lunch at Chops Grill on embarkation day, I'm sure we will change our Chops dinner reservation to something else. Don't want to eat there twice in 1 day !
Since we are in a GS on this cruise, I will ask the Suites Concierge to move our embarkation night reservation to whatever OTHER venue we want (most likely, Izumi). It's one of the nicest amenities of being in a full suite.

Does having The Key mean that you can eat at the MDR that has the Chop's menu or you have to go to Chops in order to take advantage of that perk?
The Key will have a designated place (either Chops Grill or the MDR) for their embarkation lunch. If the designated place is Chops, all Key personnel who wants embarkation lunch will go to Chops to eat. IF their designated place is the MDR, all Key personnel will go to the MDR to get their embakation lunch. Regardless of which venue that they eat in, the menu is the same - and it is from Chops Grill.

Have a wonderful first cruise. I’m sure it will not be your last

I just bought a bunch of old timey clear plastic straws to take on our Brilliance/Oasis S2S but I fear I will do exactly as KJones did and find out it’s too much of a hassle to carry them around.

Yes, it does

I have never tried it. I am not that fond of chocolate. But I plan to try it some day

Lets hope they do that and everyone will be happy.
If that were only true.... There are some who will never be happy until smoking is banned. That’s just the way it is...

How far ahead are you flying into MCO ? If you are going to have some time to spend, I always recommend renting a car one way from MCO and driving to Cocoa Beach. That way you have a means to get out and do some stuff once you get there. Depending on where you stay (IF you are staying in a hotel before sailing) it is easy to get to the port after you drop off your rental car.
If you are flying in on cruise day, I would recommend just using the Royal shuttle. Many like to do Uber but I find the shuttle easier to deal with. It’s not glamorous but it guarantees you there before the ship sails...
