  1. Hmmmm...  I've never even heard of an After Deck Bar on Deck 17.  Maybe it is all the way forward where the Suites sun deck area is ?  Does that bar have a name ? If it is located in the Suites sun deck area, then no - JS would not be able to get into that area.  If it somewhere else, I just don't know about it.  I find it hard to believe that they would allow cigar smoking in the Suites Sun deck area unless it's something special after the sun deck area closes for the evening.

So my plan is to wait this out and already have a good insurance policy if problems still exist in July.  We shall see.

I think this is a very sound position.  Regarding the insurance...I haven't had the guts to check mine yet...but I read somewhere that some of the policies exclude things like pandemics.  I hate trying to read an insurance policy so I have just ignored this issue....hopefully if I have to use it, it will be covered.

  3. Certainly nobody on this board can answer that question...but I will repeat a cruise-ism that I heard once.  It is absolutely not quantitative. I heard from a ship's officer a number of years ago that the cruise line makes pretty much nothing on the cruisefare....and that all of the profit comes from onboard sales - everything that has an extra $$.  I have no basis to back this up and no verification.  It's just what I 'heard'.  Similarly, I have heard the same thing about movie theaters - that they make no profit on the film itself and all of the profit comes from concessions sales.  Again....no data to validate.

These stories made me laugh pretty hard. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow. I hope for a speedy recovery. When you mentioned earlier how generous Heather was, here is a copy of her account from the cruise. Turns out she was more generous than we though!

Thas some serious cruising money there!

Thank you !  I’m sure the surgery will go swell.

Yes, I think that Heather is a kindred spirit !  Ha !

The forgotten passports is a recurring one for me. Here's my most weird one...to date anyway. It's embarkation day, and we get to our room. First odd thing is that our suite door is on the pool deck. DH takes a nap so I take the kids to explore the ship. It's really windy and rough as we sail away, but we keep walking forward where we find the helipad is more like a catamaran - you know, with the nets you can lay down on. We're really getting sprayed so we cross the nets to get to the port side and start to head to the aft of the ship, which is where we notice that we're not really in open water. It's more like a narrow canal, and the ship is really rocking now - Deadliest Catch style rocking over the giant waves. The ship goes into a tunnel as we reach the back and it breaks apart right in the middle. Somehow, the kids and I are left standing on dry land in this tunnel holding a shrunken back half of a ship (like a big model), and the front half is sailing away, all the water in the tunnel going with it. So we turn around and carry the shrunken back half of the ship back into the day light to try to find someone who can un-shrink all the passengers who are on this little ship. ?

    Analyze away!

    Holy crap !

Good luck with your surgery.  Have a friend who needs two new knees.  Getting old(er) sucks.

Thanks, T.  Of course, Dan is out of town (he did kiss my knee "goodbye" this morning before he left though !!)...so my daughter is coming to take me to the hospital and bring me home.  It's an outpatient procedure so I won't even be spending the night.  I'm sure I could use both knees as well...but the right one doesn't hurt - yet.

I also read that we get free luggage valet - do we have to prebook this or do we do that when we check in?

No, LV cannot be booked ahead of time, but you will have to do it once onboard and there is a deadline.  I think it's usually on day 3 or 4 that you have to let them know you want to use LV.  It is ABSOLUTELY worth using, if you are flying.    They will deliver the paperwork to you within the first day or so but then you must fill out the paperwork and submit it to Guest Services by the deadline.  Make sure you fill out the entire form.  You must include your airline confirmation/locator.  I almost always forget that !

Has anyone done the Bridge, Galley & Backstage tour (specifically on Navigator)?  Is it worth doing for suite guests (at no charge I'm assuming)?

Yes.  They are very nice tours if you have never done one before.  I recommend all of them, but I don't know if they will allow you to do more than 1 per sailing.  I would say....galley, bridge and backstage, in that order.

I just purchased this mask Greatever G2 Full Face Snorkel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VRHNSFD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I used it last week on my cruise and can 1000% recommend it. I felt like I could breathe easier than a traditional mask and snorkel, the field of view through the mask is also far superior to a traditional mask as well.

I used a full face snorkel last year on a cruise excursion and I didn't like it at all.  Yes, the breathing was fine...it was the angle at which I had to hold my head that was the problem for me.  I felt like I had to hold my head up much further than I do with a regular snorkel.  Maybe it was just me or I was wearing it wrong....

Or is that how you knew when you suddenly did the why aren’t my keys in my pocket dance.

This just happened to me recently.  I am having surgery TOMORROW (replacing my much-beleaguered left knee...none-too-soon, I might add) !!!!!  ...and when I went to the hospital to have my pre-op interview, I, as is my long-time habit, looked for my keys before I left the nurse's office, so that I would have them in my hand and NOT be searching the bottomless abyss that is my pocketbook, when I was ready to get in the car.  Nothing...nada...nope.  No keys.  Anywhere.  I pawed, unzipped and finally, panicked.  The nurse became alarmed.  She said, "let me look.  Sometimes it takes a second pair of eyes....".  Then I saw...the valet parking ticket that had been given to me when I pulled up to the parking valet....and I realized that my keys were at the valet station.  I felt like such a crotchety, forgetful, manic old lady...oh wait....

...which reminds me of ANOTHER funny story ("I'll be here all week, folks"...?).  A couple of days ago when the Corona Virus first exploded, Dan and I were discussing it and I said, completely straight-faced, "oh, don't worry...it is only killing the old people".  I thought Dan was going to roll off the bed, he was laughing so hard.  The really sad part is that I didn't get why he was laughing at first.  Then it occurred to me....

  11. Just a head's up to those of us on the Brilliance October 11 Group Cruise.  The DBP is selling for $48 PP/PD.  I haven't seen a DBP in the forty-anything since the beginning of the new year.  YIPPEE !!!  I cancelled our Refreshment Pkg (which had been a very good buy at $19 PP/PD) and purchased the UDP.  I believe the Speednoodles family will be happy to hear this great news !!!

I left our car running at Port Canaveral when we cruised on Oasis. We found out about 30 minutes after departure so there was nothing we could do but my husband did panic. RC quickly escorted us to a specialty restaurant and said they would take care of it. By the time we were done with dinner they had made phone calls and got the local sheriff to oversee a locksmith unlock, turn off and re lock the car. All at no charge! We tipped everyone involved and made a donation to the sheriffs department. Not my best moment but like you said, I could only laugh.

How did you even remember that it was on ?  I wouldn't have even though of it.
