Lovestotravel reacted to NJCruisers in ABC Island Excursion HELP!
Our cruise to the ABC island's is in 2 weeks and I've booked the following for my husband & I:
Aruba: Trikes Aruba https://trikes-aruba.com/ for the morning, and we plan to just relax and hang on the beach afterwards. https://www.surfsidearuba.com/
Curacao: We booked the Beach Day through RC that brings us to Blue Bay Resort. We'll have lunch back on the ship then just venture out on our own afterwards.
Bonaire: We booked with Woodwind https://www.woodwindbonaire.com/ to snorkel in the afternoon.
St. Thomas: We booked an All Day Beach/Jeep Excursion through Sunfari http://sunfarivi.com/
I'll be sure to post our thoughts on each once we are back.

I like to help the greater cruise community.
I find a chair for myself that is available. Then as I have observed an area for a while, I move chair hog stuff and return to my chair. Some innocent person comes along and starts using the now empty chair. Chair hog returns and confronts innocent person who can honestly claim they didn't do it, the chair was unused.
Walking to breakfast if I notice a series of hogged chairs that are still hogged when I return from breakfast I grab the towel and drop it off somewhere. Chair is freed up.
I consider it a community service.

Lovestotravel reacted to HeWhoWaits in Bonaire thoughts?
Bonaire is great for snorkeling and (especially) diving. Less to do in Bonaire than any other stop on that itinerary. Not much in the way of lazy day beaches and there isn't much to the town of Kralendijk. You might want to think of that port day as an opportunity to enjoy the ship with less crowds.

Bonaire is an amazing place to dive or snorkel....but if you decide to do either, I strongly recommend you do it from a boat rather than from shore. The beaches on Bonaire (the ones I’ve visited, anyway) are strewn with dead coral and rocks. It’s just not what we know as “pristine” beaches. Under the water ? Beautiful. The beaches...not so much

We did a diving excursion in the morning and self explored on our own after lunch. The town area is small with a few shops.
We had an 8pm sail away that allowed us some later afternoon beach time with a sunset. The beach isn't big and it's very rocky in the water but it suited our purpose.

We got off the ship and the local taxi company was offering a 2-hour tour for $25/person. We chose the south island option that took us to the salt flats, the slave houses, the light house, past flamingos and wild donkeys and included an option for time at the beach to extend the tour with no additional cost. We had a sweet driver and really enjoyed the tour.

Loved loved loved Capt. Bob’s tour! We did the “Most popular tour” (not named on their web site, but probably the same thing). You can find my review here:

Well, if it helps, we've done Capt. Bob 3 times ?, and highly recommend it. His boats are just a short walk from where you dock, so he's easy to get to. He always gets you back in time. I've always booked directly with him (that is, Soualiga Destinations).

I am with you and completely understand your fear @Lovestotravel
I've heard horror stories from my friends of bed bugs in their hotel room and rental car that left them scratching their skin off. We are super paranoid, but like @Lovetocruise2002 said, we try not to let it stop us from travelling.
Here's a funny story for you! On our first cruise Oasis, we followed the same procedures we do for hotel rooms. We left our suitcases near the door, stripped off all the sheets and inspected the seams with a flashlight, inspected the room and headboard and even behind the pictures. We hurried up and put the bed sheets back together, and low and behold, knock knock! Our stateroom attendant came to greet us! Can you imagine? She must have thought we couldn't wait to get it on .. ?

Yes, that is a good proactive feature, as long as they wash it each time! And, I always check the mattress seams.....with a flashlight.....my kids think I am nuts. ?

Lovestotravel got a reaction from raahc in Bugs?
I hate to even ask this question, but has anyone ever had a problem with a room not being clean or having.......well, the nightmare of all traveling nightmares....bedbugs? I am super paranoid after a bad experience at a high end hotel 5 years ago. It has taught me to meticulously check the beds of any hotel prior to sleeping in them. I worry about the massive turnover of people each week on a cruise, and the lack of the ship to truly have a deep clean (with them turning over a new guest list each and ever week). And, what would they do if you did find something? Not like you could change cabins when they are at capacity. Just random thoughts, 7 month out for a first time cruiser!

Had bed bugs on another cruise line. Quite an issue! Once you get a "supervisor" involved, they WILL find you a new room! You are right to check, because no matter what the protocol, all it takes for an infestation is prior passengers bringing problem with them!
