  1. We rarely eat dinner/supper in WJ but much to my wife's chagrin I do like to do a walk through after we eat dinner. It seems that there is a theme to each nights dining which leads to different main dishes along with about half of what is available being the same every night. Although my wife likes to eat in the MDR, I could easily find enough variety in WJ. In fact some nights I actually see something that makes me wish I had eaten dinner at WJ.
  2. We have done sting ray city twice, loved it both times. We booked the Stingray and Catamaran the first time through Royal, but the seas were to rough so they made it into only the deluxe stingray. Yes we were refunded the difference or had the option to cancel. We went, pretty crowded boat. 2nd time we went on our own tour, believe it was Captain Marvin's, but it was much better. The other big name Moby Dick tours.
  3. please come back after your cruise and let us know how it went, it will let others know what to expect.
  4. In my opinion the pricing pp that OP is using as an example is more than fair. The pricing structure is most likely based on Sq Ft. The solo in the example is 119 sf, the 2 person cabin is 198 sf. The solo is using 1.66 more dedicated space on the ship than 2 person cabin. So technically this solo should be priced at around 65% more than the pp cost of the double (the 14% actual saving probably accounts for the food not used). JMHO but if you think about this way it make sense. Almost all your travel tours are based on double, and all have a single supplement, if they even give a break to singles.
  5. Almost sound like part of the package to have them up when you arrive at the room on embarkation day.
  6. sorry double post - will try to delete
  7. That is an example of WASTE, not an example of trying a new dish or item and not really liking it. I am Ok with trying new items and sometime we don't particularly like them, so then we know not to order them again, this is part of the great thing about cruising. I have been able to introduce my DW to new entree she used to turn her nose up at.
  8. @ladyxsuebee Must be regional differences (I do know that USA Today and many magazines produce regional versions), as we almost never see those option here in the Midwest. Don't really remember the options being prevalent on the East Coast where I mostly travel to and through. I hardly ever travel west of the Rockies. On future trips I will make it a point start watching menus more carefully for vegan/vegetarian options if for no other reason than to be better informed .
  9. My understanding is Majesty doesn't have a Diamond Lounge but that it does have a nightly unlimited happy hour event every night the Viking Crown Lounge for Diamond and above. Will know for sure this coming February when I sail her from NOLA. I agree I do not remember an event on Empress when we sailed her to Cuba about a year ago, just the 3 drink coupon on your card
  10. let me start with saying I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings. I do believe that if Royal is offering a separate vegan/vegetarian menu each night with 4 or 5 choices on any night that this is pretty accommodating. I did go back and redo my research on the subject and according to a 2018 Gallup poll and a 2016 Harris Polls the high numbers i can come up with are only around 9% of the US population. Even the Vegan Society sets the numbers lower. I am not debating weather it is a healthier diet as it obviously is and it is increasing in popularity especially among the health conscious. What I would put forth is the question of how mainstream is it yet? How many non-specialty restaurants on land offer options? In defense of that I do feel that Royal even putting out a special menu with 4 or 5 different choices on any given night is pretty accommodating. Looks like BK is only offering you one choice to their normal fare. Again this just my opinion and you are as entitled to yours as I am to mine, this is meant to be a civil discussion of opinions. In closing I would like to provide a quote that I truly believe and try to live by. " I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Voltaire (1694-1778) French writer and historian. Enjoy your next cruise, I will mine.
  11. Personally I think you should applaud Royal for even making an attempt to be more accommodating.
  12. I believe that if you have read everything on the subject that is available, you will find that the attorney was contacted by an associate of the family that was back in Indiana. Personally I don't fault the attorney for trying to spin it his clients way, that's what I expect him to do. What i am surprised at is that there is not a Cruise Industry Association (not Royal themselves as they are smart not to comment) that is not out there to pick up the PR fight, because i am sure Royal is not the only ones with these types of windows.
  13. bump for comment @LetsTryThisPlace my understanding is local concerns are about the effects on the reefs?
  14. made from recycled paper, of which we have a glut of. The price of recycle paper has been going down for decades now. At least it is biodegradable, not like plastic. I prefer plastics for structural items like 2x4s, plastic decking, flooring, item that will again be recycled, not throwaway items like straws. remember paper straws from when I was young, they worked fine if your didn't let them soak forever in your drink
  15. Remember as a Grand Suite and above guest, you can have any item(s) from the MDR menu delivered directly to your room no service charge (I do recommend a tip though). I have also heard you can ask the Concierge to put in the request and it will show up at the time you ask (reasonably within +/- 5 min window). Don't know from experience if any of this is true, but i intend to find out in Nov to celebrate a big birthday. Also don't know if that interests you but it seems to be an option, but I agree the sooner you book your times the more flexibility you have to get the time you want
  16. Yes we where talking of doing another to Cuba soon also. had been looking into the 3 different port stops in Cuba
  17. absolutely agree book early for best price and also the added benefit of best cabin selection
  18. imagine how much business Royal would lose enforcing that policy
  19. I thought that being primary allowed you to put the other cruisers on your Sign and Sail payment method. If not primary you could only set payment for self. But advice on using a TA is probably best for such young cruisers, If using a cruise experienced TA, they can also provide other insights to make your cruise better overall.
  20. Cruised with a larger group once, and had a couple of private parties, but those private venue came with a cost to the group.
  21. Was on a cruise when they (Royal) released their first set of sailings to Cuba. Spoke with the wife at dinner that night and I was waiting the next morning when Next Cruise opened, in less than 15 minutes we were booked. One of 2 overnights in Havana they released. I normally ponder and think things through to the nth degree but, now I look back and so very glad I made that quick decision. Window on Cuba sailing was only about 2 years, what a wonderful place to visit and not at all what I would have expected.
  22. only time and actually every time i have had TSA open my luggage for inspection it has been because i have had an electronic device (ie computer, tablet, multiple cords) in the suitcase. Every time they left one of there form notes
  23. I have been tracking Uber prices on their app for Sunday mornings leaving around 8:30 for Liberty from a motel w/in 2 mile of Bush International. an Uber X up to 4 people is right around $60 and the XL 6 people is $145. That's a far cry from the $80 to $110 posted here for an Uber X around 5 months ago.
  24. I enjoyed your post also, royal almost always has a sale (even though pricing is normally the same always - more expensive the closer you get to departure date, but only 39 days now) I would wait though on booking another and see how the kids like it and do. Most love cruising but some may not. Then before its over head to next cruise and see what they can do for you. ENJOY your cruise
