Anecdotal data only.  I have conducted no scientific study.  The more people tell me their stories, the more the data becomes an accurate predictor.  Today I received 5 more sets of data, that I will include is future updates.
The data nerds out there will revel in the randomness and cry themselves to sleep regretting that I have used no normal scientific approach.

Limited data set ... still it tells the story that:
1) A few get a very, very early assignment.
2) If you are under 100 days out with no assignment, you are in for a wait.
3) Getting assigned with less than 10 days out is rare.
I will add to the data as more rolls in.

I am little bit too late to this thread.  However, I am keeping database when GTY actually get assigned.  Just reply to this post with any current or past information (I am really just interested when the cabin was assigned).

I'd love that.  Our closest cruise port is an 18 hour drive  (at least until Viking starts sailing out of Duluth - a 3 1/2 hour drive, but those will be VERY expensive cruises).

As an old phart, any mention of Scranton (PA) takes me back to 30,00 pounds of Bananas song by Harry Chapin ?(based on actual truck crash in 1965)

Here is the "routine" we started about 2 years ago:
I do not like going the day of the cruise.  So we either fly or drive in the day before. We want to be well rested. We are in Canada, so driving in the day of the cruise is impossible.  ~8 hours away is our closest cruise port. Now we drive the day before for about 5 or 6 hours, take a cheap hotel in the middle of nowhere USA, and drive the last 1.5 to 2.5 hours early the next day. We are rarely tired on the first day, and I kinda' like driving so a few hours is not a big deal. For Florida we always fly. Of course, this is best for retired people of weekend start/stop cruises. Our next cruise is out of Cape Liberty ... Is Scranton a real place???

100% ... the Flu shot choice each year is a very interesting process.  Not perfect, just a lot better than the "good 'ol days" when we had nothing.
Glad to hear your daughter is bouncing back.  Children are "human petri dishes" that can grow lots of stuff.  They also have fantastic recuperative powers.

This is still a very small sample set, but it continues to tell a consistent story (see the three inflection points).  We just got assigned our room number (14 days from sailing).  I can also verify the the "Apple Wallet" hack worked.  We knew over 40 days ago what our GTY Balcony was.
As always, if you have data, just reply and I will add to the spreadsheet.

A few more inputs ... somewhat same conclusions ... some can get early, but the vast majority are 30ish days of less.

Sorry for "quoting" the post.  The pictures are stunning.  This is the best excursion I have had in over 20 Caribbean Cruises.  Highly recommended, and I would love to hear from anyone who has a better record than 5-0.

Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Similar to Quebec City, it is a little slice of Europe in North America. You are there in June!!!! This is prime time Montreal.  Terraces are open, the bars are hot and the livin' is easy. The US Dollar is so high that you can buy the entire city of Montreal for $4.72 USD. ? I would stay downtown, soak up the nightlife of Montreal ... it's like a slow rumba in a secluded bar with a fascinating person you just met. Curt from Canada
