That the buffet was open at boarding time. My friend and I saw hamburgers after boarding and gobbled one down apiece. We then walked 40 feet aft and saw the feast in the buffet ?

That it takes a while to get your bearings and figure out your way around the ship.  Should have done more exploring on embarkation day.
That your room won't be ready as soon as you get on board.
Sorry - that was two things.  ☺️

Agreed!  love the personal feel of having the same waiters everynight!  We will walk through the "mouth jammer" in the evening watching people grab hotdogs, burgers, pizza and can't believe people choose that over MDR food!

Dalewood reacted to WAAAYTOOO in DOH! What did you forget to pack?
I have a dear friend who took her mother and 2 sisters on a cruise a number of years back.  They all drove from their home in Northern Virginia down to Port Canaveral.  I imagine that 4 ladies on a cruise produce a LOT of luggage so there was probably a huge cluster when they unpacked the car at the port to deliver the luggage to the porters.
I never really understood how this could have happened, but Martha, SOMEhow, never unloaded any of her own luggage from the car.  The ship had left port before she realized that she had no luggage.  Nothing.  Nada.  I guess being on a cruise with your mother and 2 sisters provided enough basics for her to get by.  This is a REAL nightmare scenario for me.  I DO have nightmares about forgetting my luggage.  PROBABLY because of this story from Martha !

@JerseyJoe, for a great look at ship life as a crew member, look here and here. A while back Chris Wong posted about his life on Independence of the Seas. Very interesting reading and also has a link to his own blog. He seems like a really good guy and gives a lot of insight.
@JLMoran, I believe those are the posts you were referring to.
Also, for an amazing look at supplying an Oasis class ship for a 7 night cruise, try to find Season 3 Episode 1 of a show called Mighty Ships. It's from 2010 and is amazing. Here is a link to some trailers for it.

A couple of hints on my mistakes.  Never put your credit card or sea pass card in your pocket next to your cell phone.  It tends to erase the magnetic coding.
Take a picture of the location sign in the terminal where you parked your car.  That way when you get back after a trip you can find it.  That one would have saved me a couple hours wandering around the terminal clicking my key remote only to finally discover that I was in the wrong terminal.

First of all Adventure can't go 24 knots anymore (since adding slides) and secondly it can only do 8 knots average up the Mississippi.  If the Captain tried to run at 20 knots up the Mississippi he would lose his license.  Also consider a ship burns 200% more fuel at full speed.
Secondly, no deployment plan can assume full speed all the time.  They have to build in buffers to allow for normal delays including medical, pilot, port traffic, weather and passengers who refuse to show up on time.  They leave some room to crank up to full speed to overcome delays.
Re-run your numbers assuming an average speed of 13 knots knowing that some legs can run at a higher speed and some legs must operate at a lower speed and they need buffers to accomodate normal wait times.

If it ever makes it a jury you never know what juries will do. I can't imagine you could call this anything but negligence on the part of the Cruise Line. Based upon his injuries and future earnings that could be disrupted, it's hard to tell where it will end up. I would imagine that RC has insurance for these kinds of things. If it were me, I wouldn't settle for a mere 250K. It would have to be 7 figures.

I agree with all the replies.  We cruise because it can be a great value, and there is so much choice.  You can choose your ship, your cabin and your destinations.  It can be as relaxing or as busy as you want.  You can plan everything or nothing.  A co-worker asked me once if my cruises are ever disappointing.  I told her never!  A bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work.  ?

You don't NEED passports but it's strongly encouraged that you do.  If you do not bring passports, then you do need to bring birth certificates.

The reason why passports are better is because if you get stuck in another country, for whatever reason, you can easily fly home with passports.  It's a much bigger problem when you don't have them.

Reminds of arriving to check in for our Thanksgiving cruise on Independence a few years ago and being handed the "welcome aboard program" for the day, handed it to my wife while I finished checking us in with the agent.
Wife taps me on the shoulder part way through and is pointing at one of the paragraphs on the page while saying the full version of WTF ....
The paragraph read something like "As a reminder to our guests full nudity is only allowed on open decks and in the designated lounge areas, undergarments are required in all food service areas" .... turns out the week before was a chartered cruise for a clothing optional group and they were handing out the flyers from that cruise in error.
