Ill keep this short. I just sailed my first cruise ever back in September on the Navigator. I must say I had a blast and was by far the best vacation I have ever taken. My wife also had a fabulous time. Perfect Day at Cococay was Perfect. Nothing to complain about.
I say all this to say Thank you for this blog site. The message board and videos has helped us so much.
I already booked another cruise and in the process of booking two other.
I'm a Royal Caribbean customer for life.
    Thank you everyone!

    Day 3: At Sea
Once again, we got woke up to breakfast delivery.  We were sleeping hard and did not want to wake up, but we had a Star Class Galley tour at 10am, so we knew we had to start the day.  We had breakfast on our balcony, and then headed off to the tour.  The galley tour and meet and mingle were at the same time, so we skipped the meet and mingle.  Steven and I decided to try out the zipline on the way to pick up the kids for the parade.  The suite party and the parade were also at the same time, so we popped into the suite party and snapped a quick picture with Captain Ron, then headed to the parade.  The parade was much better when it was DreamWorks.  After the parade, we stopped in Izumi and ordered sushi to our room (well, technically our bed).  Before we even finished eating, our daily snacks from Alan were delivered.  We took the kids to the cupcake decorating class, and we made puppy cupcakes and then rode the carousel and went to the arcade.  After lounging around for a bit, we had dinner at Coastal Kitchen for filet night.  The two older kids wanted to have dinner in Adventure Ocean, so they did not join us for dinner.  We asked Alan if we could have dinner delivered to our table expeditiously so the babies did not get fussy, since their nap was cut short for the cupcake decorating class.  We were not let down.  The food and service was spectacular.  Alan also stopped by Coastal Kitchen to check on us.  He played with the babies and then told us he was going to stop in Adventure Ocean to see Christian and Sophia.  This made me very happy as Christian has been asking us all day about seeing Genie Alan.  We are chilling in our room waiting for the Love and Marriage show.  The Love and Marriage show is at 10:15pm, so hopeful we will get to bed before midnight for once.  We told Alan that we wanted to sleep in tomorrow, so no CK or Starbucks breakfast delivery.  Tomorrow is Cozumel, and we are going to take it slow and relax.

Day 2: Perfect Day at CocoCay
Allure was finally able to dock in CocoCay, and we celebrated by having a lazy day.  We had breakfast delivered at 9am, and we were still asleep.  I thought I was dreaming of a doorbell ringing, but nope they hit it about 10 times within 5 seconds.  Unfortunately,  it was too windy for breakfast on the balcony, so we ate inside and finally finish Rocketman (started it last time we were on Allure).  Alan escorted us off the ship at 11:15am bypassing all the lines to the gangway.  We went shopping, had lunch at Skipper's Grill, and took the kids to Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill's Galleon.  The food was not as good as the last time we were on CocoCay (before Perfect Day), or maybe we've just been spoiled by Star Class.  After a few bites, we decided to just wait and have lunch on the ship.  When we got back on the ship, we had Starbucks (totally abusing that privilege with Starbuck's holiday drinks) and then ordered room service without knowing that Alan coordinated almost the same meal delivery plus chocolate covered strawberries and shrimp.  Needless to say, my clothes aren't exactly fitting anymore and this is only Day 2.  I tried to order a virgin mango colada at Mama Mia yesterday, but they told me they only had strawberry.  Alan must have been listening,  because he had two delivered to our room today.  After pigging out, I took about a two hour nap and woke up to news of the Caribbean itineraries opening up for Fall 2021.  Alan had Next Cruise in our suite within a few minutes of release, and we scored 8730 for November 2021 on Oasis.  Have I mentioned how amazing "Genie Alan" is?!?!  As we were leaving CocoCay, he was playing games with the kids on the balcony.  About that time, our 9 year old Christian, showed Alan his Pichu stuffed animal.  That stuffed animal is his best buddy,  and boy has it seen better days.  It's head is half way torn off with stuffing coming out, but he loves that thing.  When Alan saw it, he took Pichu with him and 15 minutes later brought it back stitched back together.  #bestgenieever.  It was formal night tonight, but we were feeling lazy and opted for 150 Central Park delivery.  The two older kids just wanted to go to Adventure Ocean, so we grabbed them a quick bite at the Windjammer.  We dropped them off and then had 150 on the balcony.  Alan also surprised us with 6 "the world" desserts after I had briefly mentioned yesterday that that was the only part of Chef's Table that I wanted to try.  Then, off to the second half of Mama Mia.  We preferred the first half, but still enjoyed the second half and are glad we attended.  Now, we are off to bed and ready for tomorrow's adventure.

    Hi Guys...
Sorry for the delay. This sailing has been… entertaining to say the least on this cruise LOL. I had elected to cancel my prepaid internet plan because paying for 3 days Voom service when I still had my own carrier in NY was ridiculous. I elected to get internet access again and pay for the fee when we actually got out in open waters/ actually sailing (ie. Today/ Day 4).
To add on to what @CarlaB said...

    Sequence of Events:
    Day Before the Cruise:
E-mails seems to have gone out between 130 to 230 pm Eastern Standard Time the day before the cruise. I received mine around 130pm. This e-mail advised that the Florida stop has been cancelled and due to weather, there were the two options:
    A. Florida is skipped but the Cococay and Nassau stops will occur OR B. Overnight stay in Bermuda instead. The decision of which option we were going to take was not announced until the day of sailing.
    On the Day of sailing:
At this point, everyone was still expected to have gotten on the ship at the proper sail away time. Communication I had with reps via Twitter only said the Captain will determine if passengers were allowed to go off the ship (for NY Day trips).
It was determined that Option B was going to take place. Initially, the Captain's plan was to "anchor" in the NY port (to allow for the casinos and shops to open, depart for Bermuda 4pm on Monday.) This would mean going off ship was not a possibility.
The captain apparently filmed a segment that was supposed to air on the ship’s tv channel…unfortunately it did not. The cruise director said it would…it did not.

    On Day 2 (Sunday):
Between 10am to 1030am in the morning- announcement goes out saying that due to weather, anchoring was not going to be the best option so passengers were allowed off ship. Passengers were required to be back on board no later than 8am Monday.
A complimentary shuttle from the Port to the Bayonne 34th Street Station (about a 5 min trip) was provided between 1030am- last trip back was 8pm.
Passengers electing to do this was responsible for everything at this point and to get back to the station by 8pm if you wanted to get the shuttle back.
If passengers wanted to come back after 8pm they could take a cab or rideshare back.
It was about 1.5 hrs from this station to the 33rd St PATH station in NYC (cost was about $11 -12 roundtrip).
At this point, the plan was still to go to Bermuda, with sailing out of NYC at 4pm Monday.
During the day, the captain did hold a Q&A session regarding the issues… we did not attend as we elected to go to NYC for the day instead.

    On Day 3 (Monday):
Around 930am -10am on Monday- an announcement goes out again stating another change of plans.
The weather in Bermuda was apparently going to now be terrible and added to it that
The weather event has now cleared sufficiently so that we could sail to Cococay, spend 1 day there, then sail back, this option (we will call it Option C) has been chosen.
Apparently, the same offer stood that if people now did not want to sail to Cococay, they could depart the ship and get a full refund back, despite having spent the last 3 days on the ship.
They were initially given 45 min to notify Guest Services and depart the ship as the Captain initially wanted to set sail by 11am.
Some people elected for this, and I would say on top of the 1000 who cancelled after the 1st itinerary change, probably another 50-100 people elected to leave at this point.
I would say we set sail closer to 1130 am.
Ironically, the weather Saturday and Sunday were substantially nicer than Monday. I am guessing the system we were trying to avoid finally arrived as we were leaving?
The captain again taped an explanation with visuals of the weather system this night. Fortunately, this explanation WAS available for us to watch to give us an idea of what we missed from his Q&A.

    NOTES:
    ·      The bathroom system was down for about 1 hr after we departed NYC.
    ·      Some of the Guest Services reps onboard were TERRIBLE. I understand that some were new, a lot were overwhelmed, but some were downright rude, dismissive and gave flat out wrong information. Hopefully the Rep H.S. was just having an off day…otherwise...if he treated others the way he treated us for 45 minutes, I could completely understand how some people were losing their patience at the agents. Shout out to Front Desk Manager Pretty Shamu… she was kind, informative and kept a positive attitude throughout.
    ·      The Wi-Fi/ Internet system was completely down from roughly 5pm Sunday to around 9am Monday.
    ·      The Wi-Fi system being down includes the free Royal IQ app. Initially Guest Services did not know when we called… I was told to come down and see the tech manager… only to be told when I got there that it was actually a system wide issue.
    ·      The waters were fairly active when we left NJ… fortunately for us, we do not get seasick…however they were giving out free Dramamine because apparently, there were quite a few that did not feel well.
    ·      The offer for the 1 day credit (for initially missing Cococay) is still going to be given despite the fact that we are now going to the Island.
    ·      The cost of the Thrill Waterpark was refunded when it was supposed to be Plan B. The cost of what they are now charging now that we are visiting Cococay is cheaper than what was originally charged. Not sure if this is due to a goodwill gesture.
    ·      The cost of the internet they were offering on the ship is cheaper than what was offered on CruisePlanner… Even the days that had 20 to 30% off Voom Surf & Stream packages.
o   Instead of pre-purchasing next time, I may just buy one of the packages on the ship because your C&A discounts are also added on top of those prices.

DAY 2: Perfect day at Cocoa Cay

    DRINK COUNT
    Specialty Coffee
    Frozen mojito
    Bahama Mama x4
    Shot of rum
3 glasses of champagne with dinner
    Disarono on the rocks
1 terrible drink from the mechanical bar (it must have ran out of limes and couldn’t muddle 😂😂)
     12 drinks total

    THRILL PARK
got off ship about 0900, waited about 15 minutes to ride Devil’s Peak
No big wait on any other of the rides in the tower
Headed over to Slingshot and waited about 15 minutes
The rest of the slides wasn’t much of a wait.
    Great day! Nearly “perfect”

    UNLIMITED DINING PLAN
this is the only not so perfect thing about Cocoa Cay. So apparently Captain Jacks on Cocoa Cay IS NOT included with the UDP! I ordered some chicken wings for the brusband thinking it would certainly be covered and well within the food credit... but alas no 😒 Seems a little weird to have a charge for something like that.

Also, surprisingly Wonderland was rather a miss for us. They waiter recommended we let them pick some of the favorites for appetizers and we pick the mains. We really liked only 3 of the 7 appetizers served. They weren’t bad, just not delicious. Perhaps if we had just chosen which ones we would have preferred based on tastes, this would have been a better experience. The brusband got the pork belly and I the beef short rib. Both were good.

The view and the experience in the venue was worth it since I don’t think there is another view like that on the ship. But the food was hit or miss for us. Perhaps if you’re bringing young’s ones who are picky eaters, this may not be worth your money if they don’t like it.

The other thing with dinner, they came out to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to my Colombian, and forgot his name 😂😂 And not in a casual... mumble mumble something close kinda way... but as in they still tried to sing it with no clue. (They literally may have said the words mumble mumble... I’m still not sure) Lol It was no big deal... but the waiter seemed so embarrassed for clearly not knowing his name (in spite of just confirming with us both right before), that he FORGOT to pour whatever hot sauce goes on top of the chocolate dome 😂 By the time we got his attention, the sauce had cooled. He still tried pouring it, and what came next was a sad awkward moment coupled with fear and false hope. He poured ALL of the contents over the dessert and when nothing really happened... he pleaded with it. Then he tried covering up for the poor performance by saying.., I’m sure any minute now it will start melting. We were left with a half melted, Frankenstein of a dessert 😂😂 No big deal; it was still rather delicious.

Don’t just look at the cruise planner during advertised sales. I feel like a ton of the lowest prices I’ve found (esp for excursions) are at a random midweek time outside of a sale. I tend to make it part of my morning routine to spend 3 mins checking the prices on the CP of the things I’m interested in.

More broadly than that, BOOK THINGS IN ADVANCE VIA THE CRUISE PLANNER. Sounds so simple, but even things like booking MTD times. You can always change it on board and at least you lock something in.

There's two types of escape rooms. Dedicated escape rooms and "pop up" escape rooms.
Ships with dedicated escape rooms, where there is a specific room that only does escape rooms. This costs money:
Symphony Mariner Navigator Harmony Oasis (as of November 2019) Independence There's also "pop up" escape rooms, where they can do it in a lounge. This is complimentary Ships with this are:
Anthem Ovation Brilliance Serenade Harmony (it has both)

It makes sense to me.  The math works.  It amazes me the number of people who have decided The Key is not worth the money.  I am of the feeling it is worth the money if you value your time and the other things it offers.   We think The Key is worth it and we bought it for $21.99.  I am hoping there is a further sale but if there is not I am fine with what I paid.  I wish the people who have never used The Key because they don't think it is worth it would stop judging those of us that do.  Everyone is different.  What I value is different from what someone else does.  I get it.  However, your opinion on the value is not relevant if you haven't experienced the benefit.

spiralqueen reacted to ThyriC in The Suite Life on Grandeur of the Seas to Bermuda 10/26-10-31 (live-ISH)
Ok I guess I'll jinx myself like @Matt and start the live-ish blog early.
So this cruise was many things to my husband and I.  First, it was a yolo black friday sale and I had been eyeballing cruises to take my husband on for a while.  He's not really the vacation-y type and I adore exploring and vacationing.  I've been very comfortable travelling solo but I really wanted him to experience a cruise.  He's a Marine so his idea of a cruise is hot bunking, doing fire fighting training onboard a carrier and being miserable while the Navy got him where he needed to go.  Vacationing to me is at least 4 star hotels, gourmet meals, relaxation, spa visits, etc.  We're like night and day when it comes to travelling.  His last experience with "Thyri Style" travel was our honeymoon in the Poconos doing the whole champagne glass whirlpool thing.  He needs to get out more.
I adore cruising, I adore the water.  I'm not married to any cruise line in particular but Royal does give us the option to sail out of Baltimore, which is a 20 minute drive from our house.
So when the price was right on black friday, I asked hub, "can I book this PLEASE?  I need a vacation, WE need a vacation"  mega SWMBO guilt trip pouring on and he allowed it.
5 nights to Bermuda.  But it has to be "Thyri style".  So I debated for about 20 minutes between the Grand Suite and the Owners Suite.  I knew I didnt want or need the Royal Suite because well, my logic is I dont play piano.  The price difference wasnt too much, and the larger balcony just sealed the deal for me.  So I booked it.
Then I found this blog and these forums and learned about MEI travel.  I was considering being my own travel agent for this but Pam Richter at MEI really has been a godsend.  She sorted me out on a name discrepancy on our tickets and our travel documents.  Hub's last name has a III at the end.  That wasnt on our tickets.  Pam to the rescue!  She also helped us sort out travel insurance.
I kind of was excited, relieved, and nervous at the same time.  I've wanted to go on a cruise with hub for a very long time.  I also must be the only woman on the planet who cant remember her anniversary to save her life.  I realized at the time of this cruise, it would be 15 years of putting up with each other.

Fast forward to tax time.  I had expected my work bonus as well as my tax refund (YAY), and I just said the heck with it and paid off the cruise.  I wanted it done, I wanted it to be "complete".  I wasnt planning on changing cabins or ships.  I knew I could get the time off of work because I always book my time off so far in advance before anyone else can take it.  So now what else.
I decided to completely splurge and do the "as close to all inclusive as you can get on a cruise" method.  So there was a WOW sale that happened with a deal of $52 for the deluxe beverage package and the voom internet.  Ok that was a no brainer, I wanted a beverage package anyways.  I'm not a huge drinker, but I do like the convenience of being able to have that extra drink after dinner, or at a show, or a latte with breakfast.  I also wanted that convenience of knowing that was all taken care of before the cruise.  And the price was nice for both the drink package and the voom.  Then I started looking at specialty dining.  I knew I wanted to do that.  I kind of like doing a "pre dinner" at a place like Izumi and then go to Chops or Giovanni's for the real dinner.  Or have the option to go to the windjammer for pregame, go to Chops for the main course, and then maybe have dessert by room service.  Again this was more about the flexibility than it was "getting the most" out of specialty dining.  I'm sure my hub and I wont come close to making the ultimate dining package worth it, but its the flexibility for us.  Also I can devour a lot of sushi.
Ok with drinks and food taken care of.  I pivoted to excursions.  I really wanted to show hub the beauty of Bermuda, the history.  And about 24 hours to do it in, it would be challenging but I'd use this as a teaser to go on more cruises.  So I booked a snorkeling excursion and a glass bottom boat ride for our first day, and a history bus tour on the 2nd.  Well unfortunately the history bus tour got cancelled, so our 2nd day has become a free day.  Personally I want to explore more of the Dockyard this visit.  I really REALLY wanted to go to St George but with all of the activities booked on day 1, it just wasnt going to happen.  I figured that the first day it would give us something fun, and then something relaxing while really taking in the sights of Bermuda.
I also decided to "treat yo self" and get a few things for the room as well.  I got the anniversary decorations gift thing, I got a bottle of champagne, 2 beach towels, a tote bag, rum and coke, and some sodas.  Since hub is a bit of a homebody, I didnt want him missing out if he didnt feel up to going out and about with me.  I wanted things to be as absolutely smooth as possible for his first cruise.  Excessive?  Possibly.  But that's just my kind of style.
And that was it for the planning phase.  Then it was 10 months of waiting.  Stalking the cruise planner for better deals (except on the intern mistake day of course).  Reading the blog, chatting with other cruisers.  I was in full cruise planning mode and 10 months felt like forever.

Now its 10 days and I'm starting a blog.  I'll do my best depending on the Voom to post as many photos and details as I can.
At 10 days out I have not heard from my concierge yet.  But I'm expecting to hear from them in the next week to book dining reservations.  I do tend to be a little cavalier with my dining on a ship though.  So I just want to book Chops on the first day because hub desperately wants the seafood tower and I promised I'd get him one.  We even say to each other now "seafood tower?" and give a thumbs up.  I fear our little inside joke will happen onboard when we actually get it.
But I'll do my best to share the suite life on a Vision class ship.
