We will be with her. I used to work in an assisted living/memory care facility, so had some training. This will be her last big trip with her, and want her to have a great time before she forgets

Sure go on the cruise but please make sure that someone is with them at all times, there is no way that you can predict when they will have a memory loss and having someone there that is familiar to them is a great help.  Not sure how far the disease has progressed but I know that they also derive comfort from familiar surroundings as the disease progresses,  for their safety I would say please have someone with them to ensure that they do not get lost or confused.  I am the step son of a mother  that had Alzheimers/dementia and understand that "making memories and family time" are EXTREMELY important but our elders also need to be cared for and safe.  Please go and have a great time but please have someone with them at all times.

This answer is very much depending how far down the line this person is with this condition. If the the loss of a short term memory is now present I would suggest someone is with the person at all times as they may not have the capacity to move around the ship simply because it is very large and unknown to them. They may not remember their way on a daily basis? Only you know what stage they are at with this condition.

The local governments are in control of the reopening date.  They are asking for the cruise ships to return. Cruise line officials are ensuring they can fulfill that request in a safe manner.    Cruise ships in particular are a form of tourism that places less demand on resources compared to fly and stay tourism.  Cruises arrive in the morning and leave later the same day unlike fly and stay tourists who stay overnight when crime can be higher and who place greater demand on resources such as food, water, policing and potentially medical.  Crime can be higher in part because there is no money coming in and people are growing desperate in a large part because they have no income.
Local governments want to reintroduce tourism to bring income but also to bring a sense of normalcy back, which itself helps to reduce crime and stabilize the region. Cruise ships are the ideal answer for how to a slowly reintroduce tourism.
This isn't the first hurricane to have this effect, many islands have gone through this before.   When I cruised to St Marteen  in the late '90s it was soon after that islands last such hurricane hit with similar devastation.
EDIT - in another forum I participate in a similar thread is evolving.  A resident of St Thomas is posting and they want tourists back.  They are not sure how they are going to pay the rent this month and while they are not fully restored (no power at home yet), they are eagerly waiting to welcome us with open arms.  They need the money.  So for anyone that does go to a recently opened island, be generous, tip well.  An extra $5 or $10 is nothing relative to the cost of a cruise.

One of the best way you can help these residents is to provide them with their island's #1 source of income/revenue: tourism. You're absolutely right the populous as a whole needs a certain level of charity to get things fully operational again, but the tourism business needs a boost equally.

Really I can't think of a reason you would want to book a cruise out of San Juan so soon.  Having one booked and already past the refund date is one thing, but to book a last minute cruise and go there at this time seems ill-advised.

It appears that you already KNOW what to eat and what not to eat.  As dining should be,  moderation in everything.  You don't need to order extra appetizers, two entreés just because they are available at no charge in the MDR.    RCL offers sugar free desserts and they are plainly labeled on the menus and at the buffets.  If you feel you have over indulged, they head upstairs to the walking track and hit it for fifteen twenty laps.  Bon Voyage and Bon Appétit!!

I do not diet pre cruise, but I also am in the gym regularly as well as taking the steps as much as possible to try to keep off the weight.  This next cruise I am going to try something new and add in a few protein shakes rather than snacking.  I know that I am on vacation but I do not want to pack on the needless pounds either! I feel that if I cut some of the indulgence out and make sure that I am actively burning calories that I can manage to keep the weight gain down to a minimum.

Lol...15 years ago we took our first cruise on Adventure and our travel agent convinced us to "splurge" on a balcony since it was our honeymoon. Fell in love with it and got spoiled and never looked back after that. And then, just this past August, many RC cruises later we went on Harmony to celebrate our 15th anniversary and I finally convinced my husband to get a JS. Thought that was going to be great!  One month before the cruise prices for GS dropped and we upgraded for an extra $500 just to "try out" Sky class after reading many comments here I was curious. Here's where I am going to sound really spoiled....I loved the GS and Sky class! Kids now want to go on Anthem and we have booked 2 connecting balconies for the extra bathroom and beds and although I know logically this makes the most sense some part of me is finding it hard to "go back". I'be been checking daily for price changes on the Anthem.  I know...spoiled but very fortunate already. But yes...careful with those upgrades.  They can be dangerous lol.  Already trying to prep hubby on booking a GS for symphony in 2019....

Ok before I get started let me say that at the last time I parked there was about 3 years ago.  But we did not have any issues whatsoever It was a great convenience, we got off of the boat, we carried our luggage off and got off around 8am.  Price was about $20 per day, and yes you can find cheaper if you look.
Second point about the drink package on Coco Cay is yes.
Third is a point that several may not care for on here and there may be a some difference of opinion but yes you can get other things onboard.  My sister drives cross country for our yearly cruise so she has quite a bit of snacks with her.  She does not want to leave her food in the car so she carries it with her onboard.  She carries her own brand of water because she is EXTREMELY picky about her water and only drinks that while she is onboard or during shore excursions.  I actually have started carrying one case of water for us for when we are on excursions.  Customs usually opens the package and shakes a few of the bottles to ensure it is not alcohol.  I usually bring a empty carry on for that reason.  I know it may change but for what a case of water costs vs buying it onboard a few bucks is wort it if they say no, not a big deal not much money lost.  Several have said that it depends on the port but I have sailed from Tampa, Port Canaveral, as well as Port Everglades without any problems.  I am not advising you to try it, just telling you my experience!
I wish I could help you with the clubs on the ship, as December will be the first time I have sailed Majesty and am looking forward to it!  And that pretty much sums up your last question as well!  Happy sailing and I hope you guys have a great time!!

Ohhh man, hopefully not the full length zip front with the chest hair exposed at the top. That will get your beverage package revoked and a Captain's escort to the front of the line on debarkation...... even if it's not your home port of debarkation.
