Empress and Majesty are hanging around for when Cuba opens up again.  Cuba can't take large ships, even Radiance class is too big.
Here's why I don't see Royal going back to building small ships.  They have learned that there is more profit to be had with big ships.  One Captain, one Hotel Director can manage a slightly larger crew and 6,800 guests.  Two ships with two sets of crews paying two sets of docking fees, requiring twice as many 5 year dry docks accomodating a combined 6,800 guests simply isn't as cost efficient to operate.
Mega ships produce higher revenue per dollar of operating cost.  Besides, RCCL has other brands that are building mid-size ships.

Okay thanks! I'm Jersey shore-trained to never leave anything behind EVER. (seriously, EVER) But I like the idea of establishing a base for the 2 of us.

Well today the news is that Grandeur is leaving the fleet and headed to Spain to join Sovereign and Monarch at Pullmantur Cruises. RC own 49% of Pullmantur.

I would imagine as these ships age with their dated systems, RC might bring in new, smaller ships? With the newest ICON technology being built it would make sense to me to begin replacing the older, smaller ships with the same technology in a smaller package.
At some point these smaller ships will need to be replaced in order to keep most of the European itineraries that simply cannot handle the mega ships.
I’d love to see some new smaller ships.

Mine said that until yesterday and now we have a cabin assignment. We leave in 2 weeks.
We’ve never done guaranteed and won’t do it again. We ended up with a cabin at the back, with obstructed view. ? Not Happy.

I booked one of those corner aft on both Navigator and Rhapsody - on purpose!!  I'd be thrilled.

Well yippee then! I called my TA (Sharla at MEI) and she sent me a video of the balcony on Voyager.  She had a corner aft in Alaska and loved it! So now I’m happy! Lol
Thank you everyone! I’ll report back in a few weeks!

Don't blame Norweigan, blame the Chinese. Ruining cruises is just the beginning of this new sinister Communist plot. What's next? Raining on parades? They must be stopped.

AFT? You might really like it!! A lot of folks on these boards choose those staterooms because of the excellent views (obstructed may not be as obstructed AFT). Good luck and have a great time!!

One thing about 8390 is that is does not have the standard sliding door IIRC.  It has a hinged door and a round window looking out onto the balcony.
One thing to note is you will do some walking  These cabins are a ways form the elevator/stairs.  it wasn't an issue for us but if you have mobility issues you want to take that into consideration.

If I booked GTY and got an aft balcony I'd be buying lottery tickets!  So jealous!

Especially if it is a corner aft.  I've had the deck 7 and deck 10 corner afts and loved them.  Very large balconies.
    What is your cabin number?

I love the back of the ship!  Yes there are some poles and metal in the way of a clear view out, but the view of the water churning behind the ship - very few get to see that!  Corners are the best as the balconies are huge!  Deck 6 is not the best since you are looking out at the blue area with the logo BUT still you can look out and see the ocean.  This is a view from deck 7 aft corner room

we had GTY Balcony on Navigator last month and ended up with a corner aft balcony (6688 on the opposite corner I think) and could not have been happier! We were on deck 6 which is  less sought after and were still so happy with our cabin. Happy Sailing!

Actually, those aft cabins are highly prized.  I think you scored a winner !  Yes, there is superstructure that blocks some of the views but in most cases (all, if I am not mistaken), the balconies on those aft rooms are giant.  I think you may have a stumbled onto a real bonus.

With a GTY you can call and change rooms if they have any available.  If you don't like your room location, see if you can change it.  Maybe yes. maybe no.

I wonder how many people are like me and would like to gamble but won't go near the casino because of the smoke.  I can't stand the smell and hate how that smell lingers in your clothes after being around it.

Well we just upgraded to Junior Suite on our Symphony in May. Got it during the flash sale plus 30% off each over the weekend. Ended up about $800 more. Worth it for double points (aiming for Diamond+) and CK. I have a feeling though we may still do a 3 night specialty because I really want to try Hooked and Wonderland. I’ll wait to get my daughter’s report after she sails next month.
UDP on Symphony runs $175-$200 per person. Upgrade to JS is worth it.

We were invited to CK a few years ago on Oasis. A friend of mine’s brother was Director of Hotels and took us there. It’s always been a sore spot with me that they removed Viking Crown and put in suites and CK so I was excited to have dinner there for the great views.
Food was very good, service was great but then again we were eating with one of 6 officers that runs the ship! Lol
I’d definitely go back if the cost difference between JS and unlimited dining were about equal.
