Royal Caribbean is taking a precautionary measure to avoid bad weather by switching itineraries on its newest ship.

Guests sailing on Utopia of the Seas for a 4-night Bahamas cruise that boarded on October 28 were informed their voyage would need to change destinations.

The original plan was for Utopia to visit Nassau, Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Due to "adverse weather" predicted for their voyage, the cruise line changed plans so the ship will go to it's private destination in Haiti, known as Labadee.

Emails were sent to passengers and their travel agents the day before the cruise began to inform them of the change, "Along with our Chief Meteorologist, Craig Setzer, we've been monitoring some adverse weather along our intended path."

"In order to steer clear of any inclement weather conditions, we'll need to cancel our visits to Nassau, Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay, and we'll now enjoy a visit to our private destination, Labadee, Haiti instead."

This is the second time Utopia has visited Labadee unexpectedly in the last few weeks. Earlier in October, Hurricane Milton forced the ship to deviate there.

Royal Caribbean apologized for the last-minute change in plans, "We're terribly sorry for the last-minute change caused by the weather - the safety and well-being of our guests and crew are always our top priority."

Any pre-purchased shore excursions for Nassau or CocoCay will be automatically refunded in the form of an onboard credit to passenger's SeaPass accounts. 

These credits can be used anywhere onboard, and any remaining, refundable amounts at the end of the sailing will be reimbursed to the card on file in up to 14 business days from final disembarkation. 

Cruise ships visiting Haiti again

Utopia of the Seas' visit to Labadee this week is one of many ships that recently began sailing again to the private destination.

While Labadee is in Haiti, it's in a remote area of the country and walled off from the mainland.

Royal Caribbean suspended visits to Labadee in March after Haiti suffered political unrest and gang warfare.

Haiti declared a state of emergency on March 3rd, and the country's Prime Minister resigned on March 12th.

Haiti has been under the U.S.'s highest travel advisory possible since March. The U.S. State Department renewed its Level 4 Travel Advisory this September, still telling citizens the country can not help if they fall victim to a crime.

Unfortunately, Haiti is no stranger to instability.  Royal Caribbean monitors the situation in every place their ships visit closely to ensure ships can visit in a reasonably safe manner.

Adventure of the Seas was the first ship to return to Labadee on October 8, and many other ships have visited since.

Keeping cruise ships out of bad weather

Royal Caribbean monitors adverse weather around the world to keep its passengers, crew members, and ships safe.

Royal Caribbean employs its own meteorologist to assist ship Captains in making changes to itineraries.

Instead of cancelling a cruise, ships can simply sail elsewhere and enjoy better weather and safer conditions.

That could mean something as simple as swapping the order of ports on the itinerary, canceling certain calls altogether or switching the sailing region completely.

With hurricane season winding down (there's just about a month left), the risk of tropical storms will lessen. However, it's not impossible for there to be a hurricane.

Historically, November generates one storm every 1 to 2 years, on average. In the past 10 years, the season's last storm fizzled as soon as Oct. 28 and as late as Dec. 7.

Royal Caribbean is well-known for offering family-focused vacations, but they've taken this to a new level with a special suite.

The Ultimate Family Suite is a one-of-a-kind cabin on Utopia of the Seas that is massive and includes just about everything kids, their parents, and visiting friends could ever want in a room.

Essentially, the design of the suite was centered around coming up with just about everything a family would want in a room, and then added a bunch of other options they've only dreamed of.

This isn't just one of the biggest suites on the ship, it also comes with Star Class benefits, which means it has some of the best perks on the ship.

Ordinarily, a suite this big with this much to do is priced well out of my price range, but because Utopia only sails short 3- and 4-night cruises, the barrier to entry was less than if it was a week-long cruise. Plus, I booked it years ago when Royal Caribbean opened up bookings and I scoured the schedule for an opportune time to book it.

For my family of 4, the price came out to $12,609.08 for the 3-night cruise. I paid for it myself, and neither Royal Caribbean nor a travel agency subsidized or paid for the cabin.

Expensive, yes, but in the grand scheme of this particular suite, it was a reasonable price for an unbelieve room. Plus, I was curious to know if the experience really matched up. Was the cabin all schtick? Or would it be the kind of suite I'd actually want to stay in.

I've stayed in some of Royal Caribbean's biggest cabins in the past, so mega suites aren't new to me. I wasn't sure if this room would live up to the hype, and I was concerned I would be disappointed having paid for a lot of fluff, and not a suite that delivered on a good overall experience.

My suite was located on deck eighteen, which is deck reserved exclusively for suite cabins.

Decks 17 and 18 are part of the suite neighborhood, which includes the Suite Lounge and Coastal Kitchen, an exclusive restaurant for guests staying in a suite (and Pinnacles too).

There's a special entrance to the Ultimate Family Suite as you come out of the elevators.

When I tapped my room key card and opened the door, I walked into the living room and instantly recognized this kind of a room was totally different than what I was used to.

The Ultimate Family Suite has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a large living room, play room, and a movie room.

It has a loft configuration, which means there are two levels. The master bedroom and kids room are on the upper level.

On the bottom floor is the living room, dining area, play area, and a third bedroom with nearby bathroom.

The living room is larger than many livings room on land, and has a giant sofa and comfy chairs that are perfect for watching television, playing video games, or just chatting with friends. There's a PlayStation and Nintendo Switch that come with the room to use.

There's also an expansive digital table where you can not only have meals, but play a variety of video games.  Kids and adults are quickly drawn to trying a game or two.  My kids spent much more time playing with this table than I expected.

Without a doubt the giant slide is the pièce de résistance of this suite. Everyone is instantly drawn to this feature, and it's undeniably fun to go down (over and over again).

My concern with the slide is it would be a one-and-done thing, but my kids went down it every day dozens of times.  They used the pillows that came with the suite as a mat racer, and they enjoyed riding it over and over again.

And yes, adults can go down the slide too. I was impressed how fast you'll head down on it, and everyone that visited the room wanted a try at it.

Underneath the slide is play area, with a great suspended chair.

At the exit of the slide is the movie room, which is about as big as some inside cabins.

There are no shortage of televisions in this suite, but the movie room has no windows, so you can dim it perfectly for movie watching.  Star Class guests get the pay-per-view movies for free, but you could also stream your favorite flicks to the screen.

The couch is like an overflowing sofa made out of the material from your favorite pillow.  I don't know why there's a television behind the couch.

There's even a microwave where you can heat up your own popcorn.

Near door is a bedroom, which is probably best for grandparents, friends, or even older kids. 

It has a king size bed, vanity area, and a view of the pool deck.

A full bathroom is located next to this bedroom, which also serves as the bathroom visitors would use. 

I was impressed by the double sinks and giant shower, that even has a large bench.

Heading upstairs, you'll walk up piano stairs.  Each step plays a note of a classical music selection. Beethoven's Für Elise was what I heard all weekend. Don't worry, there's a way to turn it off if you prefer (or when going to bed).

The master bedroom is similar to other loft suite master bedroom configurations.

There's a king size bed that faces the windows, so you could wake up to a view of the ocean.  It has nightstands on both sides of the bed, with plenty of power plugs.

There is a sitting area and vanity nearby, along with giant closets behind the bed.

The master bathroom features double sinks and a big shower, with rainforest head and opposing shower heads.

Next door to the master bedroom is the kids room. 

There's a fun door that has a "doggy door" for kids to climb through. I was surprised how much my kids opted to go through the hole rather than open the door.

There are four bunk beds, and each has its own television with headphones.  No fighting over what to watch in this room!

There's a full bathroom attached to this bedroom too.

The entrance to the slide is right off the kids room, and they loved this feature. Being able to slide down rather than take the spiral staircase was their preferred mode of transportation.

Outside the cabin is a sprawling balcony space.

The balcony has three main features, and it faces the ocean.

Staying in this suite means you have your own hot tub to enjoy. It can fit four adults reasonably.  Beyond that, and you'll have to start getting creative with where everyone's legs and feet are going.

There's a dining space outside too, so you can have meals delivered here.

And you'll also find a lucky climber feature, which is really fun for young kids. There's a larger version on the Boardwalk, and I guarantee toddlers will never want to leave it.

An equally compelling feature of this suite is the Royal Genie services, which provides VIP privileges to everyone staying in the cabin.

Speaking of benefits, everyone staying in the Ultimate Family Suite gets complimentary access to Thrill Waterpark at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Obviously this is not a cheap room. It's not affordable or a good value. It's designed to be the epitome of splurges and offer one of the most luxurious and fun rooms you could ever find on Utopia of the Seas.

While the price tag is high, it delivers a wow factor and memory making experience that is unrivaled. 

I was more impressed by how much space there was, and how conducive it was to entertaining friends. There was more than enough space to invite friends to visit, and I never felt like we ran out of space.

Speaking of space, having three bedrooms means you could easily share this cabin with another family and split the cost.  It sleeps up to 8 people, and with so much space, it would comfortably sleep 8 people. We joked the movie room's couch is big enough and comfortable enough to become a makeshift fourth bedroom.

If your family wants a lot of space, absolutely incredible features, the best perks, and are willing to spend a lot for it, then you won't regret booking the Ultimate Family Suite.

What's worth exploring on "The World's Biggest Weekend"?

Utopia of the Seas, just launched this summer, features 18 decks and 2,834 staterooms, with a capacity for 5,668 passengers at double occupancy.

It is the second-largest cruise ship in the world and offers lots for cruisers to experience on short sailings.

The Oasis-Class vessel currently sails three and four-night cruises to the Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay. 

Its shorter sailings require cruisers to plan their time carefully, choosing the most important amenities to take advantage of.

Amid two casinos, carousels, multiple pools and whirlpools, surf simulators, rock climbing walls, and more, how can you decide which features to spend time on?

Utopia is home to 22 dining venues and 13 bars and lounges, but there are ten onboard attractions, in particular, that you can't afford to miss.

1. Royal Railway ($)

The Royal Railway: Utopia Station is a must-see attraction, especially if you're looking to splurge on a specialty restaurant.

This venue is the only one of its kind in the entire fleet, so it's worth exploring during a sailing on Utopia of the Seas.

The Royal Railway takes a dinner-and-a-show concept to a new level. It's more like an immersive experience than a simple restaurant.

Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean's Senior Vice President and Chief Product Innovation Officer, called the venue a "storytelling platform." 

There's room for multiple stories on the train-car-themed platform, but the vessel currently features a Wild West experience.

The Royal Railway has a flat entrance fee of $74.99 per adult and $24.99 per child. It's also included in the Unlimited Dining Package for a $15 surcharge for adults (no extra cost for kids).

2. Ultimate Abyss

Royal Caribbean's signature dry slide, the recognizable bright purple Ultimate Abyss, is worth trying on Utopia.

While most Oasis Class ships feature the 10-deck slide, Utopia's is 43 feet longer than previous iterations—and is the tallest dry slide at sea.

The Ultimate Abyss spans 259 feet long, offering 10 stories of thrilling drop.

Intrepid guests can queue up to ride a mat down the stainless steel slide.

A glass platform at the launch area shows cruisers just how high the area is—going all the way from the top decks down to the Boardwalk.

A ride down the Ultimate Abyss can reach up to nine miles per hour as it twists and turns!

The Ultimate Abyss is free to ride and has no age limit. However, guests must be at least 44 inches tall and weigh less than 300 pounds.

2. Escape U ($)

Whether or not you're a puzzle aficionado, the escape room on Utopia of the Seas is worth a shot.

Royal Caribbean was the first cruise line to have escape rooms on its ships, and Escape U: Freshman Year is a brand-new concept for the fleet.

For $30 per person, guests join a team to try to escape from the university-themed room.

Groups of 2-12 guests receive 30 minutes to solve various puzzles and figure out where their missing professor has gone. 

It's neither too easy nor too hard, and passengers of all ages will enjoy putting their minds to this mystery.

3. Perfect Storm waterslides 

The Perfect Storm waterslides on Utopia of the Seas are a thrilling trio of slides designed for guests to have a variety of experiences.

Typhoon is a fast-paced slide with steep drops and rapid turns. Cyclone has another intense ride experience, with tight spirals at a dizzying speed.

Supercell has a giant, swirling bowl that spins guests around before dropping them through the center.

The waterslides are free of charge, but guests must be 48 inches tall to ride.

4. Laser tag 

Did you know you can play laser tag on a cruise ship?

Utopia's laser tag takes place in Studio B, which is the ice skating rink that doubles for many other events.

Families and guests of all ages can participate in this fun-filled, fast-paced game. 

Each participant receives a lightweight vest with sensors and a harmless laser gun that shoots infrared beams.

Laser tag is free of charge, but you'll want to book a time slot ahead of time using the Royal Caribbean app. Guests must wear close-toed shoes to participate.

5. Aqua80 Too 

Aqua80 was such a fan-favorite on Oasis of the Seas that Royal Caribbean decided to debut a sequel on its newest Oasis-Class ship.

Aqua80 Too, Utopia's AquaShow, features a live performance by world-class acrobats, athletes, dancers, and divers, all set to a soundtrack of upbeat, familiar hits from the 1980s.

Whether you attend for the nostalgic 80s music, the awe-inspiring feats of athleticism, or the wonderous light shows, this show has something for everyone.

Among all of Utopia's entertainment, it's one of the must-see performances onboard.

6. FlowRider 

The FlowRider is a thrilling surf simulator found on most Royal Caribbean ships.

Powerful jets of water are pumped over its blue vinyl surface to simulate a 40-foot-long wave.

Guests can either bodyboard lying down or stand up surfing on an ocean-like wave of water.

It's an adventurous experience where you can learn to surf on a cruise ship!

The Flowrider area also has lifeguards present and seating all around the pool, so spectators can enjoy the experience.

The FlowRider is free to watch and use, but guests needing extra practice can pay for additional lessons.

7. Izumi Omakase ($)

The chef-led Izumi Omakase is only available on Utopia of the Seas, and it's worth the extra cost.

It's an eight-course communal dining experience.

Each course of dinner is paired with a special drink, and both the host and chef will guide you through it in English and Japanese.

The cost is $129.99 per guest, and there is no kids pricing. It is also included in the Unlimited Dining Package with a $59.99 surcharge.

Utopia of the Seas is also the second Royal Caribbean ship to place Izumi Sushi and Hibachi in Central Park (after Icon of the Seas).

Utopia of the Seas is dubbed as a "non-stop party," so I wanted to see what it was like to try to keep the fun going all day and night.

When Royal Caribbean launched its first Oasis-Class ship with weekend cruises in mind, it wanted the vessel to offer something new and different.

Marketed as a "party ship," Utopia of the Seas offers non-stop activities throughout its short sailings.

It's the perfect combination for cruisers to make the most of their days onboard.

I spent four nights onboard Utopia this month, and I knew I wanted to maximize my short sailing.

For our only sea day onboard, I challenged myself to participate in a cruise ship activity all day long—more than 12 hours straight!

What does a busy day actually look like on Utopia of the Seas? There are so many activities to choose from—but it's more chill than you might expect.

The constant "party" atmosphere on the vessel actually translated into a calmer, chill vibe. No one was required to bring the energy, as staff and party squads made sure that guests were enjoying themselves.

In the end, I had so much fun and ended up being less exhausted than I thought I'd be.

9:00 A.M.: Breakfast

I started out with breakfast in the Park Cafe—an elegant, well-lit free cafe in Central Park. 

Breakfast in the Café usually includes fresh fruit, oatmeal, pastries, and more.

I dined on oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar, with a side of fresh grapes and hot coffee.

After breakfast, I hit the cruise ship gym, which was surprisingly busy for a relaxing sailing trip! 

Other cruisers, like me, wanted to take advantage of the quality gym and stay active despite all the tempting food.

However, the gym was gigantic, so I didn't have to worry about overcrowding.

10:30 A.M.: Ice skating

After the gym, I headed straight down to Studio B for a short ice-skating activity.

I reserved a slot ahead of time on the Royal Caribbean app, so the staff gave me a wristband right away. When my wristband color was called, I went down to suit up with a helmet (required for safety) and ice skates.

The rink was a medium-sized, icy square. Skating around on it was fun, but it seemed more directed toward kids.

Struggling children kept falling and skating in front of me, which could make the experience more stressful for beginners.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the experience. How many people can say they've ice skated on a cruise ship? 

11:20 A.M.: Lunch

After I finished ice skating, I'd worked up an appetite. I took the elevator up to the Windjammer, the ship's complimentary buffet.

I always enjoy eating at the Windjammer because of its variety of options. 

For lunch I directed myself towards the available brunch food, choosing hash browns, waffles, and biscuits.

1:00 P.M.: World's Sexiest Man Competition

After showering and meeting with my travel buddy, Val, we returned to the pool deck to watch the World's Sexiest Man Competition. 

Found on most Royal Caribbean ships, this competition is a hilarious, dramatic pageant show featuring several brave cruisers.

After each man flexes, dances, and poses in front of judges, one man in particular is awarded the title of the most attractive of the cruise.

2:00 P.M.: Plunge Party

As the World's Sexiest Man Competition ended, staff transitioned into the Plunge Party, a pool deck dance and music party.

The ship's "party squad"—a group of four dancers who showed up to each event in fun costumes—took the stage and encouraged guests to bop along to the music.

As that went on, Val and I headed to the Solarium to soak up the sun for a while.

5:00 P.M.: Main Dining Room dinner

Before the cruise, I selected a traditional, assigned dining time and received the early slot: 5:00 P.M. dinner.

We went to our assigned table at 5 sharp and were greeted by our friendly waiters.

Dinner started with bread, and then we placed our orders. For my appetizer, I ordered a tasty, hot tomato soup. 

My entree was a delicious crumbed slice of salmon, served with potatoes and asparagus. My waiter recommended the dish to me, and I was glad I ordered it!

Dessert was a warm, caramel-covered brownie with a side of vanilla ice cream.

6:30 P.M.: Family Karaoke

After dinner, we went to join karaoke in the Spotlight Karaoke venue. For family karaoke, anyone of any age could sign up to choose a song and sing it on stage.

While I didn't join in performing, I always enjoy watching, cheering, and singing along.

On the way out of Karaoke, Val and I stopped to pick up togas (really just extra sheets) for the evening's Silent Toga party.

7:00 P.M.: SENSES Sunset Party

One of the new parties I was most excited to experience on Utopia of the Seas was the SENSES Sunset Party. 

The event is one of the more "Chill-topia" experiences onboard, perfect for sitting down with a drink to enjoy the views.

Just around sunset, the DJ begins to play house music as different views of sunsets from around the world (and around the fleet!) are projected on the screen.

8:00 P.M.: Name That Tune!

Name That Tune was titled a "live game show" in the Cruise Compass, and I noticed it was taking place in the Royal Theater.

The game show was a high-quality, hilarious production hosted by the Cruise Director, Ricky.

In between rounds of the game, Royal Caribbean performers would join a live band to perform popular songs.

Name That Tune far exceeded my expectations—it was like watching Family Feud or Wheel of Fortune live!

9:00 P.M.: Royal Kappa Chi

The Utopia Chapter of Royal Kappa Chi is a throwback to the collegiate days of frat parties, complete with flip cup and beer pong.

The event was held in Studio B, which had too much seating and stage space to accommodate all the ping-pong tables that were set up.

It was hard for all the attendees to find space to join in playing games or dancing, so many just ended up sitting down in chairs and watching the games.

10:45 P.M.: Silent Toga party

Our last event of the night was the Silent Toga Party, held in the Solarium.

I always love joining silent parties, in which every guest is given a headset with multiple music channels.

Royal Caribbean added a new and fun twist to the Silent Party on Utopia by making it a toga party—each guest was welcomed with a sheet and taught how to tie it on.

A common uniform always makes groups feel closer, so I thought this was a fun way to tie together the independent style of a silent party.

After the party, we headed back to the stateroom—tired but satisfied with our busy day. 

Utopia of the Seas offers short cruises on a ship with lots to do. How can you make the most of it?

I recently sailed on Utopia of the Seas for a 4-night Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay cruise.

Leaving round-trip from Port Canaveral, Florida, I knew I only had a short amount of time to experience everything Utopia has to offer.

Cruisers first criticized Royal Caribbean when it debuted its newest Oasis Class vessel with only short sailings.

However, the cruise line found that first-time cruisers like to start with 3 and 4-night sailings, and Utopia is the perfect ship to draw them in.

With everything from a train car-themed dining experience to waterslides and escape rooms, there are countless activities to try on Utopia of the Seas.

But how can you fit them all into just a few days?

Explore the ship to get your bearings

I always explore the cruise ship as soon as I get onboard, but this is especially important to do on a short cruise on Utopia. 

On such a huge vessel, with so little time, cruisers have to know their way around.

You'll want to get your bearings as soon as you board, in order to find events quickly and ensure you don't miss anything.

It's hard to keep everything in your head, so start out by getting a visual sense of what the ship's neighborhoods and venues look like.

I recommend wandering the whole ship at least once—you don't want to miss anything on the map. 

Sometimes it takes walking around yourself to find hidden locations or decide if a particular venue piques your interest. Don't take the app's word for it—go see each spot with your own eyes.

Reserve specialty restaurants in advance

A specialty meal is worth the extra cost on Utopia. The 5,668-passenger vessel offers quality venues found on few other ships, such as the Mason Jar, Izumi Omakase, Izumi in the Park, and the Royal Railway.

Other specialty venues onboard include Chops Grille, Sugar Beach, Johnny Rockets, 150 Central, Chef's Table, Playmakers, Giovanni's Italian Kitchen, Starbucks, Izumi Hibachi and Sushi, and Hooked Seafood.

Dining at an extra-cost restaurant gets you higher-quality food in a themed venue and allows you to see more of the ship during a short sailing.

To ensure that you're able to dine at your favorite locations, be sure to make reservations ahead of time. Specialty restaurants on mega ships can sell out quickly, and you never want to be turned away from a dinner you were looking forward to.

You're able to reserve individual restaurants or bookings as part of a dining package on the Cruise Planner website before the cruise.

If you don't make reservations online, you can also go to any dining venue on the first day of the cruise and make your bookings then. My advice is to pre-book to save time and money.

Hit the top deck activities on embarkation day

The best time to go to the pool, water slides or hot tubs is as soon as you board the ship.

The pool deck is open on embarkation day, including the water slides.  Not only is it available, but it's the best time to experience them because there are least amount of crowds.

Most other passengers haven't boarded yet, are busy exploring the ship, or simply don't have their bathing suits with them.

This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy smaller crowds and shorter lines.  Pack a bathing suit in your carry-on, or just wear it onboard.

Use Royal Caribbean's app to prioritize events

To fit in Utopia's non-stop events, you'll need to have a detailed itinerary.

The Royal Caribbean app will become your source of all cruise information and it works with or without the WiFi package.

Events will be listed in great detail each day of the sailing, including the time, venue, and any associated costs.

I recommend consulting the app frequently to keep track of onboard events.

The Royal Caribbean app allows you to add events to your own Calender, and it will even send you a notification 30 minutes before the event begins.

I also saw events get canceled or change times while on my Utopia sailing, so checking the app frequently allowed me to stay updated.

Pack your carry-on efficiently  

Maximizing a short cruise on Utopia means using every moment you get onboard—including on embarkation day.

This hack takes a little extra planning but can give you hours of additional fun.

By packing your carry-on efficiently, you'll be able to begin activities before your stateroom is ready or your luggage is delivered.

Since luggage doesn't get delivered until late afternoon, packing logically will allow you to start enjoying activities as soon as you get onboard.

Pack lightly, but bring medication, water bottles, sunglasses, sunscreen, a swimsuit, and a change of clothes in your carry-on bag.

You'll be able to enjoy lunch, time at the pool, or other activities while other cruisers are still boarding and waiting for their cabins.

View event highlights on the TV

Each Royal Caribbean stateroom has at least one TV, where guests can view 10-20 free channels, purchase movies, or cast from their devices (depending on the ship).

On Utopia of the Seas, you'll find that multiple channels stream or show recaps of events happening onboard.

While I don't prefer to view events on TV instead of experiencing them, you can use this feature to take advantage of shorter sailings.

If you find yourself double-booked, a quick replay of the previous events can catch you up.

When you return to your stateroom after dinner or late at night, you'll be able to turn on the television and see the highlights of events you missed.

For example, my travel buddy and I stopped in to watch the World's Sexiest Man competition on the pool deck but had to leave to grab lunch before the Windjammer closed.

After that, we went on to the next event, but we didn't get to see who had won the competition!

When we returned to our cabin later that night, the TV's re-run showed us which cruiser was awarded the Sexiest Man.

Get off the ship in CocoCay early

The highlight of any Utopia of the Seas cruise will be a visit to Royal Caribbean's private island, so get more out of it by disembarking early.

You can walk off the ship to Perfect Day at CoocCay as early as 8am, and if you can get going that early, you'll enjoy the best spots on the island.

Not only will there be less people in the pool or ocean, but you can cherry pick the best chairs or day beds. 

Moreover, if you start your day earlier, you can enjoy more time before the crowds arrive later in the morning. If you're feeling like heading back to the ship, you'll have already taken advantage of the least crowded time on the island.

I recently spent 4 nights in an inside cabin while aboard Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship, the Utopia of the Seas.

Just launched this summer, Utopia of the Seas is the latest iteration in the record-breaking Oasis Class ship.

The seventh Oasis Class vessel is breaking new records of her own: Utopia is the first Royal Caribbean mega-ship to debut offering only 3 and 4-night cruises. 

A sailing on Utopia promises 'The World's Biggest Weekend' on one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

My cabin for the voyage was a small, windowless interior cabin that was assigned to me because I opted for a guarantee cabin instead of picking my own room.  This saved me some money, while giving up the specific choice in cabin location,

The total cost was $1342 with gratuities included, which breaks down to $167 per person, per night.

A few weeks before the sailing, I was assigned cabin 11415, an interior connecting stateroom that spans about 150 square feet.

Typically, I avoid booking connecting rooms because you're liable to get noise leakage from the strangers next door.

This cabin was assigned to us as one of the unsold staterooms, proving that connecting cabins are less desirable if you're not booking with another group.

I was concerned about hearing noises or sounds coming through the connecting door, but, by the end of the sailing, my fears were assuaged.

We didn't hear many loud noises from the next door—the only noise bleed occurred when people were walking in the hall and we could hear them from the stateroom.

The cabin itself provided a comfortable, dark spot to sleep in. Here's a look inside.

Although the room looked the same size as many other interior cabins I've stayed in, I noticed this can had newer amenities.

All of the lights were bright, the air conditioning and television had modern touches, and the entire cabin felt clean and new.

I appreciated the layout, which made it easier to share a small stateroom between two people.

When I first opened the door, I was greeted with the bathroom door to my right and the closet on the left. 

The bathroom was a small space decorated with light blue flowers and purple tiles. It held a long sink, a toilet, and a tall shower with a glass door.

The bathroom was super small, and only accommodated one person at a time—you and your travel buddy won't be brushing teeth side by side.

However, it had plenty of storage space, from shelves to hooks, that made it easier to spread out and not feel cramped.

While I liked the length the sink offered for me to spread out my belongings, the curved, smooth surface made it easy for water to spill. The counter area seemed to be wet for the majority of the cruise.

The four large shelves to the left of the sink, and a long shelf underneath it, ensured that I had plenty of other locations to place toiletries.

I'm always impressed by the water pressure and temperature on Royal Caribbean ships, but Utopia of the Seas had a particularly fancy shower attachment.

These modern amenities made showers an enjoyable experience, even within a tiny bathroom space.

Opposite the bathroom, I slid the doors open to the closet.

The closet featured two sliding doors with separate sides.

The left half held a hanging space with hangers and an extra rod at the bottom. The right half had a series of six shelves and the stateroom's securely locking safe.

Beside the closet was the television, installed above a set of drawers and table. 

The TV had around 20 free channels, as well as movies available at an extra cost.

I appreciated that multiple channels would stream or show re-caps of events happening onboard, which was a great way to take advantage of a short sailing.

When I got back to the stateroom after dinner or late at night, I could turn on the television and see the highlights of events I missed or had to leave early.

Each of these five drawers was deep and wide, leaving me plenty of space to store all my clothes and books.

The largest bottom compartment held the stateroom's mini-fridge/cooler, which doesn't have a cooling component but can keep food and drinks fresh.

Usually, Royal Caribbean's stateroom coolers are too thin to hold a wide plate or glass fully. Utopia of the Seas appears to have solved that problem: I found that this cooler was the perfect shape to store all my drinks and wider dishes.

Next, the end of the stateroom held the two twin-sized beds. If we wanted to, we could have requested these to be pushed together into a King size bed, but my sibling and I preferred separate beds.

These beds were small, but super comfortable, with plush pillows and cooling sheets.

The stateroom also had... wait for it... charging ports next to the beds!

Older Royal Caribbean staterooms tend to lack charging space, especially right next to the beds. Usually, I'll have to charge my phone and other devices across the room. 

On Utopia, each bed featured its own three-shelf bedside table, complete with a lamp, two USB ports, and one two-prong charging port.

I also chose the bed that featured the stateroom's phone, which guests can use for free to contact crew members and venues, or at an extra cost to make international calls.

Facing the beds—in a corner of its own—was the stateroom vanity. The mirror featured a bright ring light above a desk space, charging ports, a comfortable chair, and a trash can under the table.

The vanity held even more charging ports, offering a range of options to plug in at least five devices.

These stateroom changes made me think of Royal Caribbean's recent ban on multi-outlet plugs. On ships like Utopia of the Seas, guests might not have a problem charging devices on single plugs. 

While the cheaper price is a good reason for booking interior cabins, I also genuinely enjoy sleeping in them. The simple, windowless spaces make for the perfect quiet space to crash after a long day of cruise ship activities.

I could sleep through the morning in the dark stateroom.

The work is never done improving its cruise ships, and Royal Caribbean is always working on new ways to enhance their vessels.

Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship, which launched in July 2024, and our readers have noticed at least three new things onboard.

Why make changes to a brand new ship? Royal Caribbean embraces a continuous improvement methodology to its business, and a lot of efforts run concurrently. 

Moreover, adding a new option to an existing ship is a better way to "soft test" the feature before adding it to other ships or even the next new cruise ship that is under construction.

As an example, Express Boarding was first added to Freedom of the Seas so it could be tested before the launch of Icon of the Seas.

Here are three new things Royal Caribbean has added just to Utopia of the Seas.

New way to deposit cash

If you've stood in line at Guest Services on a cruise ship, you probably noticed a lot of people in line are there to pay off their onboard account.

It appears Royal Caribbean wants to make that easier and cut down the Guest Services line with a new kiosk that has popped up on Utopia of the Seas called SeaPay.

Royal Caribbean Blog reader CGTLH shared photos of the kiosk after it was added, and it's essentially a self-service way to add cash to your onboard account.

Guests can scan their SeaPass card and view their account balance.

From there, they can simply deposit cash proactively or pay off their onboard bill.

Just like an ATM machine, you insert cash into the machine and get confirmation of the transaction.

New Utopia of the Seas Starbucks 'Been There' mugs

Utopia of the Seas is the latest cruise ship to be added to the Starbucks cruise ship collection.

The Starbucks "Been There" mugs is a fun way to commemorate a visit to a specific place, and Utopia of the Seas is now available for purchase.

Destiny Armstrong posted photos of the new mugs on sale at the Starbucks kiosk on the ship.

The design of the mug represents signature features of Utopia, and there are actually mugs available on 9 other Royal Caribbean ships.

The price for a mug is $16.95.

Sam Adams Utopias beer

If you're looking for a different kind of beer choice, perhaps this new Sam Adams Utopias is up your alley.

CGTLH posted a photo of the Sam Adams Utopias beer, which is anything but a conventional beer. 

Utopias has always been aged in charred whiskey casks, and this year the Sam Adams brewers expanded the kinds of barrels for more complex flavors.

With a retail price tag of $240 per bottle, and an alcohol level of 28% ABV, Utopias is banned in 15 states.

Utopia of the Seas is the only cruise ship to carry Utopias, and the onboard price is $30 for a 1oz pour, or $55 for a 2oz pour.

Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas are the two biggest cruise ships in the world, and they are the newest cruise ships for Royal Caribbean.

Both cruise ships offer the latest and greatest Royal Caribbean features, like waterparks, ice skating spectacles, escape rooms, destination elevators, and more. Royal Caribbean classics like the Royal Promenade, FlowRider, and Windjammer are also found onboard these ships.

While Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas have a lot in common, there are some key differences between these two mega ships that prospective cruisers should know.

Let’s take a look at how Icon of the Seas compares to Utopia of the Seas.

Overview of cruise ships

Icon of the Seas is the first ship in the Icon Class while Utopia of the Seas is the sixth Oasis Class ship.

Cruisers who have been on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships will find that Utopia of the Seas is very similar in terms of layout, design, and offerings. In contrast, Icon of the Seas is a completely new and different cruise ship since it is the first in its class.

Both of these cruise ships debuted in 2024. The inaugural sailing of Icon of the Seas was on January 27, 2024, from Miami, Florida. This 7-night cruise visited Perfect Day at CocoCay, St. Thomas, and St. Kitts. Utopia of the Seas’ first sailing was on July 19, 2024, from Port Canaveral, Florida. During the 3-night voyage, guests visited Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau.

As the biggest cruise ship in the world, Icon of the Seas can hold 5,610 guests at double occupancy, as well as 2,350 crew members. In fact, Icon of the Seas can carry 7,600 passengers at maximum occupancy! Utopia of the Seas can hold 5,668 guests at double occupancy and 2,290 crew members.

As far as other specs, Icon of the Seas is heavier, longer, and taller than Utopia of the Seas. On the other hand, Utopia of the Seas is wider than Icon of the Seas.

Neighborhoods

Both Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas are split into eight distinct neighborhoods. These cruise ships are so big that they need to be broken down into neighborhoods to help passengers navigate them.

Utopia of the Seas has the same neighborhoods as Wonder of the Seas, the third newest Royal Caribbean cruise ship and the third biggest ship in the world. All the other Oasis Class ships (Oasis, Allure, Harmony, and Symphony) have seven neighborhoods because there is no Suite Neighborhood.

Icon of the Seas has new neighborhoods that are not found on other Royal Caribbean ships, including Surfside, AquaDome, Chill Island, Thrill Island, and The Hideaway.

Dining and bars

All Royal Caribbean ships have The Main Dining Room and Windjammer buffet, but Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas have so many other options to choose from, including never-before-seen venues. With over 20 places to eat on both cruise ships, you will not go hungry during your vacation!

Utopia of the Seas features a new two-story Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar with a terrace that overlooks The Boardwalk neighborhood. Also, Utopia is the first Oasis Class ship to have Izumi in the Park (Icon of the Seas was the first ship to have Izumi in the Park on any Royal Caribbean ship).

Icon of the Seas’ Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar is the first to be located in the Royal Promenade.

Cruisers will find a variety of complimentary dining venues and specialty restaurants on both ships. It’s possible to cruise on Icon and Utopia and not spend an extra dime on food because there are seemingly endless options. But, visiting one of the specialty restaurants onboard is sure to be a treat with higher-quality food and ambiance.

Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas share a number of bars, like the Schooner Bar, Playmakers Sports Bar, and Boleros. However, Icon of the Seas has more unique bars while Utopia of the Seas has almost all of the bars that the other Oasis Class ships have.

Pesky Parrot is a bar that is unique to Utopia of the Seas. Similar to The Bamboo Room on Mariner of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas, the Pesky Parrot is a tiki bar that serves fruity cocktails in a tropical setting. This bar replaced the Bionic Bar.

Entertainment and activities

Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas have dazzling entertainment options for guests to enjoy in the Royal Theater, AquaTheater, and Studio B.

Utopia of the Seas has an outdoor AquaTheater while Icon of the Seas has an indoor one (the first on any Royal Caribbean ship). Here, Utopia of the Seas has a show called Aqua80Too, which is a sequel to Oasis of the Seas’ Aqua80 show. On Icon of the Seas, there’s a show called Aqua Action! There is supposed to be another show on Icon called Pirates vs Mermaids, but it hasn’t premiered yet as of mid-2024.

Both ships have an ice skating rink onboard with different names - Icon’s is called Absolute Zero while Utopia’s is called Studio B. In addition to open ice skating, there are shows guests can attend during the cruise. On Icon of the Seas, there are two shows called Starburst: Elemental Beauty and Once Upon a Time: A King’s Royal Ball. The latter is a show meant for families with kids. On Utopia of the Seas, the ice skating show is called Youtopia!

Lastly, there are various shows held in the Royal Theater on most nights of the cruise. Icon of the Seas has a few featured productions, including The Wizard of Oz, The Effectors: The Origin Story, and Showband. Utopia of the Seas has one production show called All In!

Both cruise ships also have adult comedy shows in The Attic. Be sure to make reservations for these shows as soon as they open because the venues are small with limited seating.

Cabins and suites

Although Icon of the Seas is the biggest cruise ship in the world, she actually has fewer staterooms than Utopia of the Seas. Utopia of the Seas has a total of 2,834 staterooms while Icon of the Seas has 2,805.

Here’s a breakdown:

Icon of the Seas is the first ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet to have infinite balconies, which are essentially verandas. Don’t worry, Icon of the Seas also has traditional oceanview balconies.

Since Icon of the Seas is a cruise ship meant for families, there are many new stateroom options, like the Family Infinite Ocean View Balcony and Surfside Family View Balcony, that can accommodate three to four people.

Utopia of the Seas features two Solarium Suites at the front of the ship above the bridge wings. These suites are only found on Utopia.

Both ships offer Royal Suite Class cabins. This includes Sea, Sky, and Star class suites with varying levels of perks. For those booked in a suite, a Suite Neighborhood will be available. This neighborhood includes a Suite Sun Deck, Coastal Kitchen, and Suite Lounge.

In addition, The Grove, a Mediterranean restaurant only on Icon of the Seas, is available for Sky and Star class guests. 

Itineraries and pricing

Perhaps the biggest difference between Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas is its itinerary offerings.

Icon of the Seas is marketed as “The Icon of Vacations.” This cruise ship is heavily geared towards families because of the tremendous amount of activities and entertainment onboard. Cruisers can select from various 7-night options that leave from Miami, Florida, and visit the Western and Eastern Caribbean.

Western Caribbean sailings visit Mexico (Cozumel and Costa Maya) and Roatan, Honduras. Eastern Caribbean sailings visit a combination of St. Maarten, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Puerto Rico, Labadee, and the Dominican Republic.

Every sailing on Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas visits Perfect Day at CocoCay.

On the other hand, Utopia of the Seas is marked as “The World’s Biggest Weekend.” A first for an Oasis Class cruise ship, Utopia only offers 3 and 4-night sailings from Port Canaveral, Florida. These sailings visit Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau or Cozumel. Some sailings only visit CocoCay.

Utopia of the Seas is being marketed towards first-time cruisers who want to experience a cruise for a short period of time on a ship with the best of the best Royal Caribbean features. However, if you are a seasoned cruiser and want to spend more time onboard the newest Royal Caribbean ship, you could book a back-to-back sailing that combined would be a week-long trip.

Both of these new ships are considered to be destinations in and of themselves. Icon of the Seas offers more exotic itinerary options compared to Utopia of the Seas because Utopia’s sailings are shorter than Icon’s.

Now let’s compare pricing on both of these cruise ships. I will compare pricing on both ships for three sailings in July 2025. I looked at the cheapest price for an interior cabin, oceanview cabin, and balcony cabin. I calculated the average price per person per day based on the stateroom category.

Based on the data I collected from the Royal Caribbean website, it is easy to see that on average, Icon of the Seas is more expensive than Utopia of the Seas. This makes sense for a few reasons.

Icon of the Seas is the first of its kind. It is the biggest cruise ship in the world, and demand is high because people want to experience this massive, record-breaking ship for themselves. In contrast, Utopia of the Seas is nearly identical to her sister ships in the Oasis Class. There isn’t a ton of new things to see on this ship.

Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, even commented that Icon of the Seas is the most successful new ship that Royal Caribbean has ever launched. The hype is real for Icon!

Based on the data, a 3-night cruise on Utopia of the Seas will have a more expensive nightly cost per guest compared to the 4-night itinerary. However, paying for a 3-night cruise could still be cheaper overall than a 4-night cruise because the itinerary is shorter.

I also found that sailing on Icon of the Seas for seven nights in a balcony cabin was on average $500 more per person than spending seven nights on Utopia of the Seas (on a back-to-back sailing) in a balcony.

If you're looking to sail on a newer Royal Caribbean ship for a smaller price tag, Utopia of the Seas, or even Wonder of the Seas, is the way to go. You will definitely have an awesome vacation on either of these Oasis Class ships. But if you want to sail on the most “iconic” Royal Caribbean cruise ship, you will have to pay a pretty penny.

Royal Caribbean cruise ships offer a cabin for any budget, but there is one suite that shines above all others, both in amenities and price: the Ultimate Family Suite.

As a family-focused cruise line, Royal Caribbean is no stranger to kid-friendly activities onboard its vessels. Whether waterslides, zip lines, or laser tag, there are countless ways to keep kids (and adults!) entertained onboard.

The vast majority of families book interior, ocean view, and balcony cabins, as these staterooms provide all the necessary amenities at a reasonable price point. Yet what if you could bring family-friendly fun into your cruise cabin?

The Ultimate Family Suite does just that, and this two-story, colorful cabin offers a truly unique experience in the cruise industry. The mind-blowing cabin is available on just four ships—Symphony, Wonder, Icon, and Utopia of the Seas.

Staying in the Ultimate Family Suite isn’t cheap—prices average around $10,000 per night

With an in-cabin slide, private jacuzzi, cozy movie room, and gorgeous ocean views, the Ultimate Family Suite on Utopia of the Seas is one of the most expensive cabins on Royal Caribbean, second only to the slightly larger Ultimate Family Townhouse on Icon of the Seas.

Prices vary from sailing to sailing, but on average, guests can expect to pay between $20,000 and $50,000 for a 3 or 4-night sailing on Utopia of the Seas.

With two adults and two kids in the cabin, a 4-night cruise in April came out to $37,332 for the cabin, whereas a cruise in late February was priced at a whopping $59,124. “Budget” sailings can occasionally be found, with a 3-night cruise in August priced at just $22,948.

The suite can accommodate up to nine passengers, and guests enjoy Star Class benefits

If a $59,000 cruise gave you a jump scare, I do have some good news—up to nine guests* can stay in the Ultimate Family Suite. The more guests in the cabin, the lower the price per passenger.

The 4-night cruise in late February, for example, costs $14,781 per person with four guests in the cabin. If nine guests (four adults and six kids) stayed in the suite instead, the price per person is just $6,866 per person, or $61,796 total.

While not everyone wants to sail with nine passengers in a single stateroom, it can be a great option for larger travel parties. Additionally, the Ultimate Family Suite shares a connecting door with a Crown Loft Suite, which can accommodate an additional four passengers.

Plus, not only does the price include lodging in the opulent cabin, but passengers also receive Royal Caribbean’s Star Class benefits.

Star Class is the highest tier of the cruise line’s Royal Suite Class, and comes with impressive perks like a personal Royal Genie, access to exclusive suite areas, and complimentary internet, drink, and dining packages.

Let’s jump in and take a look inside the Ultimate Family Suite

Whether you’re planning a cruise in the Ultimate Family Suite or adding the room to your wishlist, it’s helpful to know the ins and outs of this remarkable cabin.

Colorful signage, along with a hopscotch carpet, welcome guests to the Ultimate Family Suite. Even before walking through the doors, it’s clear you’re about to enter somewhere special.

The entryway leads to the suite’s dining table, which also functions as a digital play area. Screens provide endless entertainment, with digital coloring apps and card games available with the touch of a button.

There are eight separate game areas at the table, which can also be switched off in order to transform the screens into a regular table.

If you’d prefer screen-free play, opt for the drawing board behind the table instead. Alternatively, the cabin’s Lego wall near the entryway is sure to be a hit with adults and kids alike.

The pièce de résistance of the suite, of course, is the massive two-story living room.

Colorful and vibrant, just this single room sets the Ultimate Family Suite apart from any other cabin on the ship.

A spacious television area comes complete with two lounge chairs along with a sofa, which can be converted into a bed for those traveling with a large party.

Don’t forget about the cozy nook next to the television, either, which features adorable fruit-shaped pillows.

I’d be remiss not to mention the Ultimate Family Suite’s in-cabin slide, which takes guests from the second to first floor.

There is no other cabin on the ship with its own slide, making it an extra-unique feature of the stateroom. After all, why take the stairs when you can slide downstairs instead?

If the slide weren’t cool enough, there’s also a hidden cranny behind the slide with pillows, a giant Connect 4 game, and a suspended chair.

Undoubtedly, though, the best hideaway for kids in the Ultimate Family Suite is the movie room.

With two TVs, a mini bar, and giant couch, there’s really no reason to ever leave the cabin and venture elsewhere onboard.

If a regular couch is too lame for the kids, they can watch a movie from the room’s shark-themed nook instead.

The last room downstairs is the spare bedroom.

Whereas the second floor features the master bedroom and kids room, the downstairs room is meant for extra guests, whether traveling with grandparents, additional kids, or a second family altogether.

The room features a king-sized bed along with a chair, desk, closets, and drawers for storage. A bathroom—the third in the cabin—is downstairs, too, which has a double vanity and shower.

Now let’s head upstairs, and no, we can’t take the slide to the second floor.

Still in the theme of making the Ultimate Family Suite as fun as possible, Royal Caribbean created a piano staircase. When walking up or down, each footstep creates a note, making a song as guests travel between floors.

Luckily, the sound can be switched off if you’re worried about the constant noise.

The stairs lead to the master bedroom. Unlike the spare room downstairs, the master bedroom is not separated from the rest of the cabin by a wall.

Although this makes the room less private, a curtain can separate the bedroom from the living room below. Plus, it means parents can enjoy sprawling views from the cabin’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

Being a suite, the master bedroom (along with the other rooms) comes with upgraded amenities compared to standard cabins on Utopia of the Seas, including mattresses and linens.

Aside from the bed, the master bedroom also features a lounge chair, desk, and four closets. A mini fridge is inside one of the closets, providing a convenient way to enjoy a refreshment without the need to go downstairs.

The master bedroom has its own bathroom with a dual vanity and large shower, which offers a rainforest shower head along with adjustable shower wands and jets along the shower’s walls.

The bathroom, like the others in the Ultimate Family Suite, comes equipped with Malin + Goetz body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion.

A door separates the master bedroom from the kids room next door. The door can be opened regularly or, as another option, tiny cruisers can crawl through the door’s miniature opening from one room to the next.

The space-themed kids room features four twin beds, each of which has a set of outlets and a television.

One of the bottom beds functions as a couch, but it can be converted to a bed if needed.

The kids room has its own bathroom, too. Unlike the other bathrooms in the suite, you'll find a bathtub.

Now let’s check out the Ultimate Family Suite’s stunning outdoor space. To get there, we’ll take the slide.

There are regular cruise ship balconies… and then there’s the Ultimate Family Suite’s balcony.

The balcony offers an unobstructed view of the ocean along with an 8-person dining table and climbing area for kids. Perhaps the most dreamy feature of all is the balcony’s private jacuzzi—a major upgrade compared to sharing jacuzzis with other guests on the pool deck.

All in all, the Ultimate Family Suite is definitely a splurge. As someone who typically books the cheapest interior cabins when I cruise, my short tour was probably the closest I’ll get to staying in this cabin myself.

For many passengers, just the thought of spending $10,000 a night on a cruise cabin seems outrageous. Other guests, on the other hand, book the suite as a special, once-in-a-lifetime type of cruise experience.

Regardless of where you fall on the book-it-or-not debate, there’s no denying that the Ultimate Family Suite offers a unique cabin experience. There’s no suite quite like it anywhere else in the cruise industry, and its innovative features certainly provide an unmatched, unforgettable experience for families.

*Note: Royal Caribbean's website states up to ten guests can stay in the suite, but when checking prices, a reservation agent stated the cabin can only accommodate nine guests

Utopia of the Seas is not only one of Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ships, but she's packed with lots to do.

If you're like me, you're going to want to take advantage of everything Royal Caribbean has added to this ship. There's lots to see, do, and eat onboard, and you only have a few nights to try everything.

Although the cruise fare is likely higher on Utopia of the Seas than other ships doing short cruises, Utopia has some of the best in class features that you won't get on those ships.

Here are five things to consider before you sail on Utopia of the Seas.

Royal Railway is the hot ticket

Royal Caribbean may have outdone itself with its new immersive dining restaurant experience because demand for it has been quite high.

Royal Railway at Utopia Station is more than just a specialty restaurant. It's an adventure through food and story, and a lot of passengers are clearly interested in booking it.

Reservations are slowly rolling out to be able to book it, but you're going to need to be quick to grab one. The combination of high interest to try it along with cruisers collaborating on social media to alert each other when reservations are available is leading to Royal Railway selling out quickly.

My advice is to book a reservation in advance once they become available on the website, even if you have a Royal Caribbean dining package or you're sailing in Star Class.  

You can always get a refund onboard the ship once you point out you have one of those things, and being assured of a spot via this method makes the most sense.

I'd also advise you to join a Facebook group for your sailing to be alerted by others when Royal Railway pops up to book.

If eating at Royal Railway is important to you, then definitely book early and don't wait.

A lot of the new parties are late night

There are a lot of new parties and events on Utopia of the Seas, and many of them are at night.

Royal Caribbean wanted Utopia of the Seas to offer more to do than its other ships, and it greatly expanded its activities. In addition to the usual Royal Caribbean events, you'll find new pool parties, dance parties, fraternization events, and more.

The new pool events, such as the Plunge Day Pool Party, are still during the day, so there's no concern there. But if you want to experience many of the new events, it's going to be a late night.

These include:

• Toga silent party
• ReZolution Dance Party
• Royal Kappa Chi college party
• Red DJ party
• The Quest adult scavenger hunt

It seems many of the events don't begin until 11pm, and many are only offered once per sailing.  

The key is to look at the schedule ahead of time, and take a nap during the day or load up on coffee so you can make it to the late night hours. Some parties have been going until about 4am.

Plan your port day around CocoCay, not Nassau

Time is limited on a weekend cruise, so if you're going to make plans on shore, do it on your visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay.

I'm not disparaging Nassau specifically, rather, pointing out which port to prioritize since it makes sense to also have time for all the fun things to do on Utopia.

Utopia of the Seas has a lot to do, and there's a good argument for staying onboard the ship on one of the port days in order to enjoy more of the ship.

Staying onboard the ship means you could enjoy more time at the pool, less of a wait at the water slides, sample a different restaurant, or go down the Ultimate Abyss.

Not only are there a lot of good choices for what to do at CocoCay, but I find Nassau's shore excursions options limiting in the sense of compelling choices. I actually prefer the beaches around Nassau more than CocoCay, but Royal Caribbean has fine-tuned its private island game to a point where it's far more likely to have a fun time ashore.

Don't take this tip to mean you shouldn't get off the ship at Nassau, rather, if you want to do one port day, I'd pick CocoCay.

The Mason Jar bar is underrated entertainment

Royal Caribbean says Utopia of the Seas is the ultimate party ship, but the Mason Jar bar is where you ought to be going every night.

With all due respect to the Pesky Parrot, English Pub, Schooner Bar, and Red dance party, my go-to evening music spot was the Mason Jar in order to see the Country Trio perform there.

Bryan, Jeff, and Josh put on a great show, and even though I'm not a big country music fan, it's the right mix of new and classic hits that I think anyone can enjoy. 

Equally compelling are the bar menu choices. Be sure to try the PB&J Old Fashioned for my absolute favorite cruise drink.

It makes sense to wander on Utopia and sample a variety of bars and lounges each evening, but I recommend stopping by to see the boys in the Mason Jar.

Secrets I discovered on Utopia of the Seas

I spent over a week on Utopia of the Seas taking in as much as I can, and ran across various tidbits I think would benefit anyone.

None of these are "I can't believe how amazing this tip is" sort of secrets, but I do think you'll have a better cruise if you know about them.

Expedited boarding: You can get on Utopia of the Seas faster with expedited boarding at Port Canaveral. Simply do everything in the Royal Caribbean app, and you can qualify for it and it's free.

You can get coffee at Giovanni's: If the line for coffee is too long in the Windjammer or Cafe Promenade, Giovanni's wine bar has an espresso machine. It might not help you early in the morning, but they're open during the day.

You can order food at Giovanni's wine bar: Another Giovanni's tip is to go to the bar for a snack or a meal. There is a limited food menu you can order from, and this can be great for a quick bite or a workaround if you cannot get a reservation at the restaurant.

The shaved ice isn't covered by a package yet: I love that Royal Caribbean added shaved ice to the Wipeout Bar at the back of the ship near the Ultimate Abyss, but your drink or dining packages won't cover it yet. Royal Caribbean may revisit that rule in the future, but for now, plan to spend extra on it.

Look for espresso martini machines: Utopia is the second Royal Caribbean ship to add espresso martini machines to some of its bars (Icon of the Seas had it first), and it's something espresso martini fans seem to love. I spotted one at the casino bar and Schooner Bar so far.

There are USB plugs at a lot of bars: If you need to charge your devices, look for USB plugs below the bar. The Solarium Bar, Schooner Bar, and Pesky Parrot all had USB plugs below the bar to keep your devices charged.

You can buy Wowbands: Royal Caribbean sells its useful RFID bracelets on Utopia of the Seas. Known as Wowbands, you can buy them at Guest Services for $9.99 each.
