A video shared on YouTube shows what crew cabins are like on the world's second-largest cruise ship. 

Bryan James, an entertainer for Royal Caribbean, has worked on numerous ships in the fleet, including Wonder of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, and Odyssey of the Seas. Currently, he's at the shipyard in France gearing up for the launch of their newest ship, Utopia of the Seas. 

When he isn't singing, you can find him playing video games or making videos for his social media channels. On Instagram, he's amassed nearly 200,000 followers, while his TikTok has over 800,000. 

In his most recent YouTube video, he gives viewers a look into the crew accommodations on Royal Caribbean's sixth Oasis Class ship. Despite the small quarters—particularly the shared bathroom—, the video has received positive comments thanking James for sharing. 

@Disneyobsessed23 wrote, "Omg this is so cool man! I am now thinking about working on a cruise ship now!"

"Downside: tiny room.  Upside: it's not shared with another random crew member (like most crew cabins on most ships)," commented @pileofstuff.

"I think...the strangest part about being on a ship is the tiny, tiny rooms we have to live in"

Before showing viewers his stateroom, James tries to explain just how small the room is: "Imagine your adult walk-in closet and then cut it in half, and then cut it in half two more times...that's about the size of our rooms." 

Cabins aboard Icon of the Seas were redesigned to maximize limited floor space; however, those on Utopia don't appear to be as modernized. While James doesn't have to share his stateroom with another crew member, the available space is minimal. 

What you see when you enter is pretty much what you get. The single twin-sized bed is directly across from the personal sink and closet. There's not even a nightstand to store the cabin's phone, so it's hung on the wall. The television is affixed to the wall at the foot of the bed, too. 

James' friend and fellow performer Jeff, who is about 6'4" or 6'5", laid in the bed to show just how small it is. To comfortably fit, he says he curls up when he sleeps. 

The Jack-and-Jill bathroom means he shares it with another crew member

Despite sharing the washroom, there's just barely enough space for a toilet and shower. Both crew members have their own sinks in their stateroom, eliminating the need to work one into the bathroom's floor plan. 

Jeff once again serves as a model to showcase the overall size of the shower: "If I just barely go up on my tiptoes, there's the ceiling." 

"You can never get the shower head actually over your head; you have to kneel down," says James. 

Since there's not a ton of floor space, he has to store the stool in his wardrobe

According to James, the only stressor of his crew cabin on Utopia of the Seas is trying to effectively manage the space: "That's why I try to only bring one bag of stuff because if you have anything more than one bag,...there's no room." 

Above the bed, he shows two cabinets and one open-face shelf for more personal items. The latter is where James keeps water bottles, while the cabinets are where he stores his laundry bag. Jeff has a different approach, as he claims he keeps his clean clothes in the concealed cabinets. 

Beside the stateroom's door, there's a small built-in shelving unit that houses the safe, and there are a few hooks on the wall. Since cruise ship cabins have magnetic walls, James could bring more hooks to hang items like hats, lanyards, small bags, etc.

Though Utopia of the Seas is officially one month from embarking on her maiden voyage, there's a lot of work to be done before she can welcome guests onboard. 

Royal Caribbean International has taken to social media to share short reels of Utopia's progress. 

While the vessel has taken shape, countless details need to be finalized, from finishing up the brand-new Solarium Suites to planting tens of thousands of plants in Central Park.

Izumi in the Park is an Oasis Class first onboard Utopia of the Seas. 

Guests can order classic sushi rolls, hot gyoza, and soft-serve bubble cones at the convenient to-go window, for an additional charge. 

Utopia will also have the largest Izumi Hibachi in the fleet, boasting six Teppanyaki tables with the ability to seat 48 passengers. 

The Boardwalk is another Oasis Class staple found on Utopia of the Seas at the aft of the ship on Deck 6. 

When Oasis of the Seas launched in 2009, she was the first cruise ship in the world to feature interior-facing balcony cabins, with staterooms overlooking the Central Park and Boardwalk neighborhoods. 

In addition to first-of-their-kind cruise ship balconies, the Oasis of the Seas' Boardwalk was the first to feature an outdoor theater called the AquaTheater, where passengers can watch high-diving spectacles into the deepest pools at sea. 

Giovanni's Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar, while not a new concept, has been redesigned for Utopia of the Seas. 

In addition to being two stories, passengers can dine al fresco on Gio's Terrazza, which overlooks the Boardwalk neighborhood. 

The same space has been used for various purposes on other Oasis Class ships, ranging from Wonderland on Symphony, Wonder, and Harmony of the Seas to a card room on Oasis of the Seas and Chef's Table/the Crown Lounge on Allure of the Seas. 

Though most of the cabin categories on Utopia of the Seas are familiar, the Solarium Suites are a new addition. 

The 839-square-foot suites are perched atop the bridges' wings and feature an infinite verandah design. 

There's a lot to look forward to on the pool deck, too, including the Perfect Storm waterslides. 

At the front of the ship, there's the adults-only Solarium. As you can imagine, the Solarium Suites are just steps from the Solarium, giving passengers easy access to the lounge chairs, whirlpools, and Solarium Bistro. 

The Ultimate Abyss on Utopia of the Seas will be the longest dry slide at sea, coming in at 259 feet long. It will also feature racing windows and zoom booster rollers for a "surprise" exit on the Boardwalk.

The Vue initially debuted on Wonder of the Seas, and it's making a comeback on Utopia of the Seas. Whether you're sailing away from Port Canaveral or enjoying a day at sea, it's the perfect bar to soak up the stunning views. 

The Royal Promenade is a central thoroughfare with a hub of activity, from the Latin-inspired Boleros Bar to the brand-new Pesky Parrot. 

You'll find Sorrento's, the pub, Starbucks, and a few retail shops here, too. 

Finally, Royal Railway - Utopia Station still has a ways to go before guests are able to enjoy the Utopia exclusive specialty restaurant.  

"The World's Biggest Weekend" just got more exciting, as Royal Caribbean released Utopia of the Seas' entertainment lineup. 

From original productions to late-night comedy shows, here's everything you can expect to find on the newest Oasis Class ship, starting with the AquaTheater. 

Aqua80Too is Utopia's high-diving spectacle and it's a sequel to the original Aqua80s show on Oasis of the Seas.

The show is a musical tribute to the decade.

First launched on Oasis of the Seas, the AquaTheater has become a fan favorite, with an enhanced, indoor theater found on Icon of the Seas. According to the infographic shared by Royal Caribbean, the show will feature 80s hits. 

The ice skating rink is another popular entertainment venue onboard Royal Caribbean ships. In addition to hosting unique skating shows, the rink can be transformed into an arena for game shows and even a nightclub! 

Youtopia is the name of the "fantastical ice skating show" on Utopia of the Seas. While details have yet to be revealed about the new show, past ice skating performances have included high-tech features, including synchronized drones! 

Plenty of entertainment onboard requires audience participation, too, including the ever-popular Crazy Quest, Battle of the Sexes, Family Feud, and Majority Rules.

Utopia of the Seas will not feature a Broadway musical

Royal Caribbean made a name for itself by offering Broadway musicals, ranging from Hairspray on Symphony of the Seas to Grease on Harmony of the Seas and Mamma Mia on Allure of the Seas. 

Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's fourth new build in a row that won't feature a Broadway musical when launched, following Odyssey, Wonder, and Icon of the Seas. Icon of the Seas is home to The Wizard of Oz, a Royal Caribbean Production version of the classic story, rather than the 2011 musical adaption by Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Instead, guests can enjoy All In!, a high-tech original production in the main theater. 

Though not a Broadway musical, all Royal Caribbean Productions, such as Sonic Odyssey on Quantum of the Seas and Once Upon a Time on Freedom of the Seas, bring world-class performers to the high seas. 

Parties aplenty 

What's a weekend party cruise without an amazing lineup of onboard parties? 

If you're a fan of silent discos, you won't want to miss the event on Utopia of the Seas, as Royal Caribbean claims the Shush! Silent Party will be the largest silent disco in the fleet. Silent Toga! appears to be another silent disco, being described as "[a] toga party with a silent twist."  

Those who prefer poolside action will appreciate the not one, not two, but four pool parties onboard, including the Sail Away Pool Party, Hey Utopia!, Senses Sunset Pool Party, and Plunge Day Pool Party, a Vegas-inspired daytime party. 

Back inside, guests can partake in the Rezolution dance party with "epic light productions" and Royal Kappa Chi, a "throwback collegiate party" for those who may want to relive their college days. 

Adults who want to keep the fun going into the late hours can head over to Red, the late-night club with a live DJ, while the Spotlight Karaoke lounge is a bit more family-friendly for those who want to show off their natural talent.

With nine different places to listen to live music, you'll have to hop between venues to hear it all!

During the day, you can take in Caribbean beats on the pool deck. 

The ship really comes alive with music at night, though, ranging from the rock and pop band in the Music Hall to the staple piano entertainer at the Schooner Bar, the guitarist at the Bell & Barley Pub, and the sultry Latin band at Boleros. Central Park boasts live music, too, including a solo pianist and jazz band. 

The Country Crew Trio can be found at the Mason Jar, so even if you don't have a specialty meal booked at the Southern-inspired restaurant, it's worth checking out, especially if you're a fan of country hits and good company!

Dining at Utopia Station costs $119.99 per adult and $59.99 per child. Those with an Ultimate Dining Package (UDP) can upgrade for $49.99.

Royal Caribbean has long been the ultimate choice for a family cruise vacation, and for the first time, they want to appeal to those who may be hesitant to book a weeklong cruise with the introduction of Utopia of the Seas. 

The 236,860 gross registered ton (GRT) vessel is just weeks from hitting the high seas, boasting new features that cannot be found on any of the other five Oasis Class ships. 

Historically, new ships enter service sailing weeklong itineraries. Utopia, however, was designed as "The World's Biggest Weekend," offering 3- and 4-night cruises to The Bahamas, including Royal Caribbean's award-winning private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. 

Here are 7 brand-new things coming to Utopia of the Seas. 

Solarium Suites

The Solarium Suites aboard Utopia of the Seas are one of more than 20 stateroom categories. Measuring 839 square feet, they feature an infinite verandah design, meaning that instead of walking outside onto your private balcony, you can enjoy the ocean's breeze from the comfort of your cabin with the push of a button. 

Perched atop the bridge's wings at the front of the ship, guests can soak in 280-degree views inside the two new Star Class suites that accommodate up to four passengers. As the name suggests, they're just steps away from the adults-only Solarium, offering a tranquil retreat from the lively pool deck. 

Royal Caribbean's Royal Suite Class comprises three tiers: Sea, Sky, and Star. Those within the Star Class come with the most perks, from priority boarding to a private butler (Royal Genie), access to the suite-only sun deck and restaurant, complimentary beverage and Wi-Fi packages, and so much more. 

With the enhanced benefits comes a hefty price tag. A Solarium Suite onboard the November 3, 2025 sailing costs $3,788 per person, totaling $7,779.50 for a party of two for a 4-night cruise.

Royal Railway - Utopia Station

Utopia of the Seas will be home to the only immersive train car dining experience at sea. From the specialty cocktails to the unique menu curated based on the time and region you're "traveling" through, Royal Railway - Utopia Station is more than your standard specialty restaurant. 

The steam on the platform and various effects on the train are meant to trick everyone's senses during their journey. Every seat, for example, is equipped with a "butt-kicker" timed with the story. Additionally, Royal Caribbean is working on incorporating scents into the experience to make it a multi-sensory adventure. 

Don't worry, though—the storyline unfolds in intervals to allow for downtime to enjoy your meal with your travel companions. 

Dining at the brand-new specialty restaurant costs $119.99 per adult and $59.99 per child. Those with an Unlimited Dining Package (UDP) can pay a $49.99 surcharge for the dining experience.

Izumi in the Park

From fresh sushi to a fun teppanyaki experience, Izumi has become a guest favorite across the fleet. For the first time on an Oasis Class ship, Izumi will be located in Central Park, and with six teppanyaki tables, the Izumi aboard Utopia of the Seas will be the largest in the fleet. Plus, the new private Omakase-inspired experience will feature a multi-course meal paired with sake cocktails. 

Guests can also get sushi to-go at Izumi in the Park. Though not a new concept, as it debuted on Icon of the Seas in January 2024, Izumi in the Park on Utopia is an Oasis Class first. 

Whether you're craving a classic roll, hot gyoza, or even a soft-serve bubble cone, you aren't limited to dining at Izumi. Instead, you can take your food to-go and eat on the pool deck, your cabin's balcony, etc.

Longest dry slide at sea

After MSC World Europa stole the title of having the longest dry slide at sea, Royal Caribbean tweaked the Ultimate Abyss' design to be nine feet longer than the 250-foot Venom Drop. 

Measuring 259 feet long, Utopia's 10-story Ultimate Abyss will be 43 feet longer than the slides on other Oasis Class ships and about 10 times longer than a London double-decker bus. Moreover, they've incorporated transparent racing windows and zoom booster rollers for a "surprise" exit on the Boardwalk. 

The two slides were manufactured in Germany, while the iconic anglerfish was built in Germany. The latter stands 22 feet tall with 36 teeth. 

Poolside "food truck"

Compared to cruise lines like Carnival, one of the most common critiques Royal Caribbean has received over the years is that they don't have enough fast-casual dining options. 

Though venues like El Loco Fresh have been added to some ships, Royal Caribbean still lacks the variety that Carnival's lido deck offers, including fresh tacos from BlueIguana Cantina, juicy burgers from Guy's Burger Joint, and crispy chicken sandwiches from Big Chicken. 

With the introduction of Utopia of the Seas, they're addressing the feedback by adding a new poolside "food truck" venue called the Spare Tire. Rather than venue to the Windjammer or stick with Mexican fare, guests can enjoy complimentary "handheld favorites" like pulled pork sandwiches, cheeseburger flatbreads, daily rotating desserts, and more without straying far from the pool deck.

Pesky Parrot 

Replacing the Bionic Bar, the Royal Promenade is set to get a new Caribbean-themed bar called the Pesky Parrot that will serve tropical libations with rum, tequila, and gin. 

There will be frozen beverages, too. The central location promises it will become a favorite for guests onboard, whether stopping in for a pre-dinner drink or refreshing afternoon cocktail. Though not included with the cost of your cruise fare, Royal Caribbean's Deluxe Beverage Package can be used here. 

According to Royal Caribbean, Pesky Parrot will feature other "surprises;" however, they haven't been revealed yet.

Two-story Giovanni's 

Fans of Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar will appreciate the two-story dining venue featuring Gio's Terrazza, an outdoor terrace overlooking the Boardwalk Neighborhood, allowing guests to dine al fresco while enjoying authentic Italian dishes. 

This is an extra-charge venue, meaning you have to pay extra to dine at Giovanni's. The coverage charge for dinner is $54.99 per adult and $14.99 per child; however, lunch is cheaper, costing just $24.99 per adult. 

If you're interested in eating at Giovanni's Italian Kitchen on your upcoming Utopia of the Seas cruise, you should book your reservation in advance through the Cruise Planner. Not only does utilizing the Cruise Planner allow you to secure your desired dining time, but you can also take advantage of any pre-cruise discounts.

Royal Caribbean has added pricing for its newest immersive train-inspired specialty restaurant.

The Royal Caribbean mobile app has been updated to list the price of Royal Railway - Utopia Station.

Dining at the brand-new specialty restaurant costs $119.99 per adult and $59.99 per child. 

Those with an Unlimited Dining Package (UDP) can pay a $49.99 surcharge for the dining experience. 

While Royal Railway is not Royal Caribbean's cheapest specialty restaurant, it's unlike any other dining experience Royal Caribbean has offered yet. This new concept incorporates a show element to it through the extensive use of technology to make guests feel like they've been transported to the Old West.

Currently, the price is only listed on the mobile app, and the app does not allow guests to make reservations.

The immersive nature of the experience, combined with the live show, exclusive cocktails, and unique menu, make Royal Railway - Utopia Station unlike any other specialty restaurant in the fleet

From the moment you step foot on the station's "platform," you’re supposed to believe you could actually be boarding a train. 

The menu was designed with a cohesive theme, similar to Wonderland. Rather than the offerings you'd find at a standard steakhouse or Italian restaurant, you can expect a menu to match the journey. 

The Wild West theme, which is the first of many themes to debut on Utopia of the Seas, will feature a menu that borrowed ideas from classic Western United States fare. 

Royal Caribbean is still working on fully developing it all, but it promises to deliver something truly different from any other cruise ship restaurant.

Royal Caribbean is toying around with more themes

If riding through the Wild West doesn't appeal to you, don't give up hope. Royal Caribbean plans on adding more themes to Royal Railway - Utopia Station. They won't, however, be available when the ship sets sail on July 19. 

According to Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean's Senior Vice President and Chief Product Innovation Officer, while the Wild West theme is a "long form" story that's a "lean in family experience, "short form" stories aren't out of the picture. 

What could "short form" stories look like? Think of a whiskey tasting through the Tennessee mountains or wine tasting while flying through the Napa Valley. Of course, these are just ideas; the final product is subject to change! 

Royal Railway isn't the only new restaurant on Utopia of the Seas

No longer are guests lounging on the pool deck limited to the options at El Loco Fresh. Now, passengers can head to the Spare Tire, Royal Caribbean's poolside food truck-inspired restaurant serving "handheld favorites" like pulled pork sandwiches, cheeseburger flatbreads, daily rotating desserts, and more. 

And while not a brand-new concept, Izumi in the Park on Utopia of the Seas is an Oasis Class first. 

Rather than carving out time to dine at Izumi, guests can order classic sushi rolls, hot gyoza, and even soft-serve bubble cones at the to-go window in Central Park. 

Speaking of Izumi, the Izumi on Utopia will be the largest in the fleet, with six teppanyaki tables and a private omakase-inspired dining room! 

Passengers craving Italian fare will appreciate the two-story Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, which has an outdoor terrace, dubbed "Gio's Terrazza," for the first time!

We're five weekends away from the official launch of Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Utopia of the Seas. 

The brand-new party ship will focus on short getaways to The Bahamas, namely Royal Caribbean's award-winning private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Resort-style pool deck

The expansive pool deck is designed to be a haven for guests to soak up every moment of the Bahamian sun. With five pools—more than the days to count—, eight hot tubs, three waterslides, and a dedicated aqua park for children, there are plenty of ways to relax and play aboard Utopia of the Seas. 

Plus, with the addition of the new "food truck" dining venue, passengers don't need to travel far for a quick bite to eat. Dishing up "handheld favorites" like pulled pork sandwiches, cheeseburger flatbreads, daily rotating desserts, and more, the new dining concept is a convenient way to fuel up without straying far from the poolside fun.

Royal Caribbean designed the pool deck to cater to all ages and preferences, which is why you'll find three thrilling Perfect Storm waterslides, a children's aqua park, and three Lime & Coconut bars. Whether you're seeking an adrenaline-filled afternoon or a tropical poolside cocktail, the pool deck aboard Utopia of the Seas won't disappoint.

Revamped Ultimate Abyss 

Utopia of the Seas' Ultimate Abyss is not only the cruise line's longest yet, but also the longest dry slide at sea! Measuring 259 feet long, Royal Caribbean reclaimed the title after it was stolen by MSC World Europa's 250-foot Venom Drop. 

It's 43 feet longer than the Ultimate Abyss slides on other Oasis Class ships and about 10 times longer than a London double-decker bus. 

Those brave enough to plummet down the 10-story slide will begin their adventure on Deck 16, speeding through the new transparent racing windows and zoom booster rollers for a "surprise exit" on the Boardwalk. 

Adults-only Solarium

Found at the front of the ship on Deck 15, the Solarium is a Royal Caribbean staple available to passengers 18 years and older. This adults-only area is a sanctuary of tranquility for those who might not want to be in the middle of all the action on the pool deck. 

Hideaway Beach, the adults-only beach at CocoCay, costs extra. However, it's worth the splurge for those seeking a kid-free day on the island. 

Relocated Izumi 

Though not a new dining concept, Izumi onboard Utopia of the Seas will be relocated to Central Park, a first for an Oasis Class ship. With six teppanyaki tables, Utopia's Izumi will be the largest in the fleet. 

Additionally, there will be three different dining styles: teppanyaki, sushi, and, for the first time, a private multicourse omakase-inspired dining room. There will also be a to-go sushi window to grab delicious rolls, hot gyoza, or soft-serve bubble cones for an extra charge.

Sushi isn't everyone's favorite, though. With more than 40 ways to dine and drink, there's something for everyone on the newest ship in Royal Caribbean's fleet, whether you are craving a juicy steak, fresh piece of pizza, or poolside Mexican fare. 

It will also be the only ship with the new immersive train car dining experience, Royal Railway - Utopia Station. The unique dishes, specialty cocktails, and overall ambiance promise to deliver a memorable meal while "transporting" you through different times and places, including America's Wild West. 

Fans of Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar will appreciate the revamp, as the restaurant will span two stories and feature a terrace overlooking the Boardwalk. 

Utopia of the Seas will welcome paying guests onboard for the first time on July 19

With Utopia officially in the hands of Royal Caribbean, the anticipation for the ship's inaugural voyage continues to grow. 

Departing from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, Utopia of the Seas will call at CocoCay on July 20 and Nassau on July 21 before returning to Florida and welcoming a new set of passengers onboard for a 4-night cruise, which includes one sea day. 

The ship introduces a new era of cruising, as it's the line's first ship entering service catering to the short cruising market. Rather than reserving older vessels for 3- and 4-night sailings, those loyal to the brand or curious about cruising can experience cutting-edge amenities and world-class entertainment not found on any other short cruise in the world. 

There's a new Royal Caribbean cruise ship joining its fleet.

Measuring 1,188 feet, Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas was delivered today at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France and is on schedule for her maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida to The Bahamas on July 19, 2024.

Delivery of the ship signifies transfer of ownership of a new cruise ship.

The 18-deck cruise ship has a maximum capacity for 5,668 guests and 2,290 crew members. That's a total of up to 7,958 people.

Utopia of the Seas delivered

Executives from Royal Caribbean took delivery of the ship at a ceremony at the shipyard.

Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley and General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique Laurent Castaing hosted Utopia’s first party of many to recognize the achievements of the nautical engineers, designers, architects and more.

"Taking delivery of Utopia of the Seas is an incredibly important milestone, as it marks yet another evolution of our game-changing ships and our mission to create the best vacation experiences responsibly," said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. 

"From the ultimate multigenerational vacation on this year’s earlier debut of Icon of the Seas to now the ultimate weekend getaway on Utopia of the Seas, we are laser-focused on delivering a variety of vacation options and priceless memories for our guests."

Utopia is the sixth vessel of the venerable Oasis Class, and is now the second largest cruise ship in the world, measuring 211 feet wide and 1,188 feet long. 

She is not as big as Icon of the Seas, which launched earlier this year and is 1,198 feet long, 20 decks high, and weighs 250,800 gross tons. That makes Utopia 10 feet less in height, two decks shorter, and 13,940 gross-tons lighter.

At 236,860 gross registered tons and 1,188 feet long, Utopia of the Seas is slightly larger than Wonder of the Seas, the newest Oasis Class ship at sea that launched in 2022. 

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class debuted in 2009 with the introduction of Oasis of the Seas. Since then, the class has grown to include six ships, including Utopia of the Seas. 

More than two years of construction took place, with construction of the ship beginning in March 2022, and sea trials taking place in May 2024.

The cruise ship is not scheduled to leave Saint-Nazaire until June 23, 2024.

Utopia of the Seas will be based year-round at Port Canaveral beginning July 2024. 

A new market for a new ship

Utopia will be the first new Royal Caribbean ship to enter service with short cruises. Typically, new ships begin with at least 7-night cruises because it tends to be a more lucrative market.

Royal Caribbean's plan is to start with 3- and 4-night sailings designed to attract first-time cruisers who are hesitant to go on a longer sailing as their first cruise.

The idea is offer the very best new cruise ship in the short cruise market to give new cruisers an obvious choice of which ship is best for them to try. Shorter cruises allow passengers to get a taste of the best that Royal Caribbean has to offer without committing to a weeklong cruise. 

Combined with a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean thinks it will cement them as a first-time cruiser's dream choice.

Once they fall in love with cruises, Royal Caribbean pushes them to try Icon of the Seas or Wonder of the Seas, which offer 7-night cruises.

What's new and different on Utopia of the Seas

Despite being the sixth in the Oasis Class, you'll find tweaks, additions, and new offerings on Utopia of the Seas.

Utopia will boast five pools, three water slides, 21 dining venues, 23 bars, two casinos, eight hot tubs, and will be the only Oasis-class ship to include two Solarium suites.

The ship will have a brand-new Caribbean-themed bar, Pesky Parrot, in the Royal Promenade. That compliments the expansive Lime & Coconut bar on the pool deck.

Perhaps the most anticipated new feature on Utopia of the Seas is the a new immersive dining experience, Royal Railway - Utopia Station.

You'll feel like you've boarded a classic train car that can transport you to different places around the world and in different eras.

At launch, Royal Railway will offer a trip to the Old West, but more ideas will follow. The restaurant will cost extra, and pricing is not yet known.

Speaking of the pool deck, there will be a new food truck concept added for guests. It will serve up, "handheld favorites"

After enjoying a tropical cocktail, passengers can make their way to one of the many dining options onboard, whether it's Royal Railway - Utopia Station, the classic Main Dining Room, the two-story Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, or casual Windjammer Marketplace. 

There will also be a zipline, laser tag, escape room, and rock wall to climb.

Inaugural sailing is next month

The first sailing of Utopia of the Seas will take place on July 19, 2024, offering a 3-night sailing to The Bahamas.

All of Utopia's sailings include visits to its private island, CocoCay.

Another Oasis Class ship to come

Utopia of the Seas is not the end of the Oasis Class.

Royal Caribbean placed an order for a seventh ship from Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard that is set to launch in 2028. 

Royal Caribbean's newest Oasis Class ship will have the longest dry slide at sea. 

First launched on Harmony of the Seas in 2016, the 10-deck high Ultimate Abyss quickly became a guest favorite. Passengers make their way to the aft of the ship on Deck 16, where they navigate twists and turns before ending up on the Boardwalk on Deck 6. 

MSC Cruises' World Europa stole the title for the longest dry slide at sea with the 250-foot Venom Drop. Royal Caribbean didn't take this too kindly, so they upped their game to introduce an even more thrilling attraction on their newest ship.

Measuring 259 feet long, Utopia of the Seas' Ultimate Abyss will be 43 feet longer than those on previous ships. Plus, it will be about 10 times longer than a London double-decker bus. 

The two slides were manufactured in Germany and are composed of 41 sections. Rather than maneuver and place a fully completed slide on the ship, sections were assembled and added individually. 

Inside, guests will find 300 illuminating LED lights and a brand-new feature, the zoom booster rollers, giving riders a "surprise" exit. 

Utopia of the Seas' Ultimate Abyss will have transparent racing windows, too, adding an extra layer of excitement while they fly down the slide in about nineteen seconds. 

The signature anglerfish was manufactured in France and stands 22 feet tall with 36 teeth that greet riders before they descend into the depths of the "abyss."

The Ultimate Abyss dry slide can be found on all Oasis Class ships, except for one

The free-to-ride dry slide is an Oasis Class exclusive. First launched on Harmony of the Seas, it was later added to the namesake ship of the class. Allure of the Seas, however, never received the thrilling addition due to her canceled Royal Amplification. 

Currently, Allure is sailing out of Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida on 3- and 4-night sailings to The Bahamas, including Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay. In July, her homeport will move to Miami, where she'll remain through February 2025. 

During Royal Caribbean Group's fourth-quarter earnings call, President and CEO Jason Liberty revealed that the second Oasis Class ship is set to undergo a major refurbishment. When the vessel returns to service in April 2025, she'll be based in Europe, offering weeklong sailings around the Mediterranean. 

Though no details have been revealed as to what guests can expect, some have speculated that an Ultimate Abyss will finally be added. 

The enchantments to the Ultimate Abyss aren't the only features unique to Utopia of the Seas

Utopia Station - Royal Railway is a brand-new specialty dining restaurant exclusive to Utopia of the Seas. The immersive dining experience will transport travelers through the Old West and Far East while onboard a cruise ship! 

In addition to a theatrical show complete with seat vibrations and special effects, Utopia Station offers a menu inspired by the time and region.

Royal Caribbean is thinking into the future, too. Rather than utilize the space just for meals, they hope to roll out "short form" stories, such as a wine tasting while flying through Napa Valley or a whiskey tasting in the Tennessee mountains. 

The Pesky Parrot Bar will replace the Bionic Bar in the Royal Promenade, fitting as the ship is slated to make short tropical getaways! The Caribbean-themed bar will serve fruity cocktails made with rum, tequila, and gin and is sure to be a hit thanks to its central location. 

Up on the pool deck, it will be hard to ignore Lime & Coconut, Royal Caribbean's resort-style pool bar, which will have three locations onboard. 

"Lime & Coconut is really going to open up the pool deck, and guests are going to be able to use the whole pool deck for their pool parties and their activations at night," said Julie Ansorge, Product Owner, Product Development for Royal Caribbean International.

Whether you're a devout Royal Caribbean fan or new to cruising, Utopia of the Seas was built to offer the best of the brand. 

With only 3 or 4 days onboard, the goal is to get guests excited about cruising, so they'll want to explore other ships within the fleet, from the world's largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, to smaller vessels that focus on offering port-intensive itineraries.

Originally, the first sailing was to commence on July 22; however, construction moved quicker than anticipated. Now, the 3-night maiden sailing will visit Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas earlier than expected. 

Inaugural cruises are important milestones in the life of a cruise ship, as they signal that the vessel is ready for regular service with paying guests. 

They come after a series of shakedown voyages. These allow crew members to familiarize themselves with their day-to-day operations and ensure everything is running smoothly before officially welcoming customers onboard. 

Royal Caribbean is building a restaurant that will make you feel like you're dining on a train traveling through the Old West.

Utopia of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's sixth Oasis Class ship, will be the only ship in the fleet to feature an immersive train car dining experience. 

Though still two months from entering service, the excitement around the brand-new specialty restaurant continues to grow. 

Royal Caribbean Blog had an exclusive opportunity to visit Royal Caribbean's headquarters in Miami, Florida for a sneak peek regarding what guests can expect when dining at Royal Railway - Utopia Station. From the unique dishes, specialty cocktails, and overall ambiance, I can confirm it's worth the hype. 

Welcome aboard

Royal Caribbean has been steadily improving its cocktail game, and you can expect a range of new beverages to set the mood with the Royal Railway.

Royal Caribbean's beverage team worked to develop new alcoholic beverages that reminisce about the Wild West.  The idea is the drinks evoke the spirit of the specific time period and place your train will visit.

Early ideas for cocktails include a Pisco Sour, a drink that was popular in San Francisco during the era, to cocktails inspired by the Gold Rush and even a bourbon cherry Coke for something a bit more mainstream. 

Since Utopia Station is very much a family-friendly specialty restaurant, kids can enjoy a non-alcoholic Sarsaparilla served in a flask. 

Special effects and a new atmosphere

Royal Caribbean's team was intent to set the mood by crafting this experience to have a real feel to it.

Some ideas include a departure board, boarding ticket, and mingling with other passengers.

The immersive experience begins before you step onto your designated train car. 

"This is truly a storytelling platform," said Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean's Senior Vice President and Chief Product Innovation Officer. 

It's clear the intent is to give passengers something completely different from a traditional cruise ship specialty restaurant, and in its early stage of development, they have some really fun ideas.

The Wild West theme, which is the first to debut on Utopia when the ship launches in July, is what Schneider referred to as a "long form" story that's a "lean in family experience." 

Schneider discussed how "short form" stories aren't out of the picture, though. 

"Short form would be whiskey tasting through the Tennessee mountains, or when we do our wine tasting today, we sometimes do it in [the] Main Dining [Room].”

“It would be much better to [do a] wine tasting in a room like this where...you're flying through Napa and can...pair wines with things as that kind of immersion," he said. 

Despite being an immersive dining experience, train passengers have time between theatrical moments to mingle with their party and enjoy the meal. 

Just like dining theater of the past, there will times where something is happening to capture your attention, and other times to enjoy being in the restaurant.

The experience is meant to appeal to guests of all ages, with jokes and elements targeted to be understood by different age groups. The guidebook, for instance, reads, “Ever since becoming a dry county in 1861, spirits here have been pretty low.”

A menu to match the journey

During our preview, the experience was an overview of what guests might expect onboard. It's not quite set yet, including the menu.

We were given an idea of what Royal Caribbean has in mind, as a means of understanding the overall idea and pace of the meal.  

Don't assume anything shown on the menu will make the final cut, but it's clear there's a motif in mind.  This will not be just another steakhouse, Italian restaurant, or something else familar.

The menu certainly seemed like it borrwed ideas from classic Western United States fare, to new takes on old favorites.

If nothing else, I hope the "Fart & Dart beans" name makes the final cut.

It's clear Royal Caribbean has built upon the concept of an entire menu with a cohesive theme, similar to Wonderland or even the Mason Jar.

Royal Railway's menu incorporates fun ideas along with crowd pleasers.  The “Royal Railway Cigar” dessert is one idea they are working on, and it ties back into the story of the ride.

From the steam on the platform to various effects on the train, the goal is to “trick” everyone’s senses as they walk into Utopia Station

While you may technically be on a cruise ship, you’re supposed to believe you could be boarding a train to the Wild West. 

Every seat, for instance, is equipped with a "butt-kicker." According to Schneider, “The intent of the butt-kicker is it’s timed with the noise jostling, so when you saw the actor kind of jump forward…these seats got a butt-kick…that butt-kick will be episodic"

They’re also working on incorporating scents into the experience, so if there’s an explosion, you should smell a hint of sulfur. However, they must be able to evacuate the smell for the next group. 

During my ride, I also heard a gunshot echo throughout the train car. In the future, however, passengers should expect to hear bandits running “across” the top of the car. 

Once completed, Utopia of the Seas will be one of the largest cruise ships in the world

Of course, it isn't a Royal Caribbean cruise to The Bahamas without a stop at their award-winning private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. 

Guests have the option to enjoy the exciting amenities on the ships, ranging from the zip line to the FlowRider surf simulator, miniature golf, Perfect Storm water slides, and more, or venture ashore and test their bravery at Thrill Waterpark, relax at Coco Beach Club, head to the adults-only Hideaway Beach, or enjoy the complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas scattered throughout the island. 

However you decide to spend your vacation on Utopia of the Seas, Royal Caribbean promises that it will be a memorable getaway.

Utopia of the Seas' inaugural voyage is slated to depart from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida on July 19, 2024

Initially, Utopia of the Seas was scheduled to begin making regular sailings on July 22; however, construction moved faster than planned, and Royal Caribbean bumped the highly-awaited maiden voyage up a few days. 

Rather than a 4-night cruise to The Bahamas, Utopia's first cruise will be a 3-night voyage to The Bahamas, with all planned itineraries afterward remaining unaffected.  

Port Canaveral is the second largest cruise terminal in the world, surpassed only by PortMiami, which is home to Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship. Utopia of the Seas will be joined by Star of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's second Icon Class ship, in 2025.
