This is my first timing sailing RC and it gave us no other option but My Time Dining which I am not sure I am happy with. One, all initial info on My Time Dining says it is available same hours dining rooms are open which is blatantly incorrect. Early dining starts at 5:30 in the dining room but it says I can't use My Time Dining until 6:45. Then when I try to go in and reserve times, either nothing at all shows up or very limited options depending on whether I use the app or the website. Do I need to have "officially" checked in first before it will give me more options or does that just mean it is already completely full and I am out of luck. How hard or bad is it to get into My TIme Dining when you don't have a reservation? Do I need to resign myself to the fact that I won't get to eat in main dining room much and will just have to use the as needed casual options around the ship?

How close to sailing are you?  MTD reservations open months before sailing so the better times may be taken already.  Same with early traditional dining.  But you can certainly eat in the main dining room without advance reservations. In fact a great many passengers don’t (or don’t know they can) reserve in advance.

They start taking MTD walk-ups after Early Dining is done. That's why they usually say it starts at 6:45. If you show up before then and an early dining table has freed up, then they can start seating. They don't release a lot of pre-cruise reservation times for MTD but you can go when you board and make reservations if you wish.

You can always ask to be waitlisted for early or late dining.

Well I can see this being somewhat nerve wracking for those of us with planning OCD.  If I were 4-5 months out & still unable to book, I’d be twitching too!

Yes that would be really frustrating, however I have never seen that on all my cruises. Everyone that I have booked with short time it has been available, and everyone that I have booked with yrs in advance have opened up at least 1 yr prior to sailing.

I don't understand how I have been so lucky to be able to book all my dining, drinking and shore excursions so early while the "vast majority it seems" can not or has issues.

This is the first time I have encountered it.  I booked our March 2025 cruise in May.  MTD reservations opened in late August/early September.  My previous cruises have had reservations open almost immediately.
