Marga Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 Hi, We are a couple in our mid 40's from Europe. We went on 5 different Royal Caribbean cruises and loved most of them. This summer we went on the Sun Princess, the newest ship from Princess cruises because they offered an itinerary we really liked. We had a very nice cruise. However, while my husband thought Princess was far superior to Royal, I really missed the 'wow' factor that I get on Royal cruises. Here are some pro's and con's we experienced: - On Princess the drink package was much cheaper and the drinks were more 'normal' cocktails in stead of the iced drinks on RCL They deliver drinks to you wherever you are on the ship including your stateroom. We paid 60usd per person for drinks package, WIFI and gratuity per day. - On Princess the food was of much higher quality. The main dining room, as well as the buffet and other eateries had much better and healthier food - On Royal the entertainment is always of a very high quality - on Princess the entertainment was mediocre mostly and repetitve. - On Royal we always have a lot of fun chats and interactions with fellow cruisers - on Princess people barely said hello in the elevator So for me the missing 'wow' factor of entertainment a just 'happy' atmosphere is what I really missed. For my husband the food and drink quality were big pro's to Princess. So now we are looking for a compromise and thought Celebrity might be it. But it seems much more expensive compared to Royal and Princess. What are you opinions? Will Celebrity be a better fit for us? Quote
twangster Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 It's impossible to predict how you will feel about about Celebrity until you try it. I personally enjoy Celebrity. I feel the food is better than Royal. The entertainment is good but not as good as Royal's newer ships. However Royal always feel like home to me. You are not me. Things I prefer may not align with your likes, dislikes or preferences and tolerances. You really need to try it for yourself to see if you like it. HeWhoWaits Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 Sounds like you as a couple match up with my wife and me. I found our lone Celebrity cruise to be superior to most Royal cruises. She still prefers Royal. The reasons are very similar to your Princess experience. JustMeJoe and Marga 1 1 Quote
Gilley Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 I'm excited to try Celebrity Beyond. I'm looking forward to the magic carpet. I think that is what it's called. asquared17 and Marga 1 1 Quote
cruisellama Posted September 27, 2024 Report Posted September 27, 2024 Less toys, a little quieter, dining options (on Edge class) are very nice. You won't find large broadway-like productions. Smaller productions and featured artists. Price point is above Royal and Princess. You have to sail it to evaluate if its a match. The environment is more conducive to relaxing. Marga 1 Quote
Mike.s Posted September 27, 2024 Report Posted September 27, 2024 Matt's video sums up the differences, have to agree Cafe Al Bacio is so much better than the coffee shop on Royal ships Quote
InmyElement Posted September 28, 2024 Report Posted September 28, 2024 Sounds perfect for us, we'll have to try Celebrity next year. Less Kids Quality of Food Smoke Free Casino Don't really care about entertainment More relaxed atmosphere Matched Status Although very few departures from our home port, Cape Liberty. Thanks for the video @Matt Bob_KY 1 Quote
PRMLVM Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 How is the live music on the ship? We love the live performers, whether in the Centrum on the smaller ships or in the bars (Boleros, Schooners, Dazzles, the pubs) on the larger ships. I was sad to see the jazz lounge go away. Anyway, we like the idea of fewer kids and a smoke-free casino, and we don't need slides and bumper cars. But a variety of live music is very important. Can anyone say how that compares to the Ships of the Seas? Quote
Jenn G-MEI Travel Posted October 1, 2024 Report Posted October 1, 2024 @PRMLVM I found the live music on Beyond fantastic. It can be found in a few different areas of the ship in the evenings PRMLVM and Bob_KY 1 1 Quote

There were three primary bands that rotated venues and a steel drummer that sometimes played at the Sunset Bar. Curt From Canada and PRMLVM 1 1 Quote
