PDCC with two ships

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am on Anthem in November and will be docked at PDCC with another ship. What is the crowd/chair situation if we don't get off as soon as we dock. I've seen a lot of people on here say get off the ship as soon as you can and grab a chair but on vacation I'd rather not set alarms and just move on my time.

Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks all. I am not concerned with location. It's our first time there and I'm sure we will be moving around a lot and not just parking it in a chair for hours at a time.

Wanting to explore for your first time makes total sense. I'd still do some research and get an idea of the different areas. Yes, there's a map in the app and plenty of crew members to direct you but I've seen several people say "I never saw the taco bar" or something similar. It's not hard to get around but any place that can accommodate that many people isn't exactly small.

Have a great time!

A Taco Bar? I've been there a few times now, I didn't know there was a Taco Bar

It's part of the buffet at Chill Grill and Skipper's Grill (identical food at each although I've only been to Chill Grill).

I actually don't think that I have eaten on the island except maybe the first time I was there.  I usually am ready to get back on the ship by lunch time.

As background, I eat a lot when I cruise and it's one of my favorite parts of cruising. So with that said, I love the food on CocoCay.

Not trying to convince you to have lunch there, just sharing an opinion. Besides the buffets at the 2 Grills I mentioned, the chicken sandwiches and funnel cake at the Snack Shacks are very good.

I'm on Allure next month for a 3 day, but I have Star class for the first and maybe only time so I'm not sure what I'm going to do this time for food.  I see you are a City fan, I live east of UCF so only a 40 minute drive to the port so hopefully will be doing some more short cruises the coming years.

We've been in Sky Class twice, never Star, and it will not be a common occurrence so we felt the same way. We took advantage of the perks as much as we could while we had them. We were also treated to the Beach Club so I had filet and lobster. I really do enjoy the free food on CocoCay but it's still just chicken sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, funnel cake, tacos, etc. We'll be back to our usual frugal routine on our next several cruises.

I'm near the Magic Kingdom, takes us around an hour. I'd love to sail more frequently but my wife is a teacher so we're mostly limited to school breaks... and she prefers to spend Thanksgiving and Xmas with family so it's mostly spring break and summers for us. We're squeezing in this one Allure cruise at the end of the month because school is randomly off on a Friday and there was a good price a couple weeks ago.

I'd like to go more, but we like seeing other parts of the country too.  You'll have to let me know how the Allure cruise was.  Mine is the day after Thanksgiving and a bunch of family is going along so I could get away with a holiday cruise.

Last year, I stayed onboard at Coco Cay due to a little hangover. Talk about a dead ship. That's the closest thing to having a ship to myself as I'll probably ever get. Me and about 4 dozen folks. LOL. (Probably more like a couple hundred) Lunch at the WJ is basically the same as on the Island, but a few more items and a lot more deserts. And they close down at least half the serving stations. The most relaxing WJ experience I've ever had. If you been to Coco Cay a lot, I recommend skipping it occasionally for a change of pace. And the Casino is open while in Coco Cay too.

We have rushed over, and eased over, and have always been able to find good seating.  We did head back early last January to watch the Bengals-Bills playoff game by the pool.  Watching a snowy football game when it is 80 on the pool deck is a great experience.  While not many people there, there were enough to make the one poor guy behind the pool bar a busy man, and a long line was the result until staff started coming back on the ship.

I'm a boring creature of habit... hence repeatedly sailing from PC to the same ports over and over, lol. We all like what we like.

I may or may not do a semi-live blog from Allure. I did one in June from Wonder. It will be in the Live Blog forum (obviously) if I do.

If I don't, I'll likely have some sort of post-cruise review.

Strongly disagree.

Fresh hot chicken sandwiches, mozz sticks, funnel cake at the Snack Shacks... nothing like any of those in any WJ I've been in. My ongoing wish is that they put a Snack Shack onboard the ships (replace the Dog House).

The Grill buffets are more similar I guess, but the taco bar is similar to EL Loco Fresh, not WJ, and not all ships have ELF.

The similar items are hot dogs and hamburgers and I never eat those on CocoCay, the other stuff is much better, IMO.

Keep putting that in your end of cruise survey and maybe one day they will listen. 😀

I won't hold my breath but, joking aside, it's not expensive food and I think it would fit well on the boardwalk on Oasis class. I'd be thrilled with even just a funnel cake counter.

We are looking forward to our first trip to PDCC next year.

The prices in NZD are shocking but I think we will be happy just doing the free stuff anyway.

I occasionally flirt with the idea of booking the beach club but at $1100 NZD for 2 people I just can't justify it as we will want to explore. (cheaper than a day bed at $1450 through). I'll see if the black Friday sale provides any better pricing but I'm not holding my breath.

Okay, Not including Snack Shacks. And you don't have to fight wind, sand and Seagulls 🤪

OMG!!!! The prices in USD are increasingly breathtaking, but not like that!!! 😱

I understand why RCI has dynamic pricing, but it's one of the things about them that I dislike compared to other lines.  I feel like identical items should cost the same cruise to cruise and then increase for all of them or none of them.  The cruise planner watching that is needed to get the best price with RCI isn't something you really need to do with other lines.

I agree with ‘wait for the rush to end’ before going ashore. Hate standing in line waiting for the CocoCay song to start playing and then joining the stampede on the pier.

I’d rather take my time. There are always chairs available. Of course the ones nearest to the beaches and pool are usually taken. But there have been times when I would go early for a great chair…and then shortly be surrounded by, shall we say, overly enthusiastic vacationers who have no problem sharing everyone else’s space.

Going later gives me the opportunity to scope out an area and find a more relaxing spot. There are plenty.

I used to do the beach club every trip…but that meant trying to be one of the first off and getting there early to grab a day bed by the pool. Love the club, but hated the stress of getting there.

Anyway, supply and demand took care of that for me. The price for the club has skyrocketed due to demand and that gave me the excuse to do away with the stress and just relax. Thank you economy.🤣

Flight prices are the same way. Hotel prices are the same way.  It's certainly not limited to RC.

@Floatingby I was at PDCC several weeks ago when they were two ships there at the same time. I decided to go back to the ship around 1:00 p.m. I noticed that the Oasis lagoon pool was packed, as well as most of the chairs around it. However, right next to it, the Harbor Beach and a little further down on Chill Island had plenty of open seating. So, like others have said, you'll find seating no matter what time you get off the ship, it just might not be exactly in a prime spot. 👍
