She Sails Away

I got a mouse on Harmony last Sept, and it creeped me out. I feel like they only do them for us single gals.

When I turned on my bathroom water the second day of my Grandeur cruise, I got brownish water for a bit. I was glad I never drank any of the tap water like I was doing on Oasis the week before. Slimy water would have sent me to the edge.

I was chatting with a lady the other day about the different ships and she mentioned exact same thing on Grandeur. She said there were times when they would come back to their cabin and the water in the toilet would be yellow/ light brown or you would have to run the sink for a little while before it stopped being brown, things like that. She said never again.

Today was super sunshiny and the pool deck, the pools, the hot tubs, and the sun chairs were crammed all day long. The solarium was chock-full of people reading and knitting and sleeping. The ice cream machine was in overdrive.

Yesterday was pretty devoid of activities but today was pretty full. They had Harry Potter trivia, Lord of the rings trivia, and progressive trivia. There was karaoke and country line dancing lessons. There was Pilates and stretching classes. The casino was hopping all day long. The puzzle table was in constant use by rotating clumps of people. I'm Including a photo of the puzzle we stayed up till midnight last night to finish. It's not an especially nice puzzle but we were dedicated and we did finish it first thing this morning.

tonight was our second formal night and people dressed up and had photos done and all that stuff. There was live music playing in the centrum during the dinner hours and there were many little girls out there twirling and twirling in their gowns and bows.

I woke up early and had a late breakfast in the Windjammer. I went to the puzzle table and found my puzzle buddy and another friend trying to finish the puzzle we had abandoned last night. I sat down and we finished up in about 30 minutes. That was fun.

I spent a couple of hours working at the computer station by the café latitudes. Boy you see people in line at Café latitudes placing their orders and you see so much. Most people come to Café latitudes in the morning barely holding it together until they get that first cup of coffee.

When I got back to my room I discovered that I had missed my massage appointment. I was positive it was at 5:30 but no, it was at 11:30. And it said so very plainly on the reminder card that I had brought back to my room and tossed aside. I don't know what I was thinking. I called and apologized and they let me reschedule without any fuss.

I've never gambled before or used the casino, ( am I alone on this?) but today I joined my Facebook cruise group friends for a $25 slot pull. I learned a lot and had loads of fun. Unfortunately we got the worst slot machine in the history of slot machines. We played for well over an hour and the golden dragon only flew our way two times and when we finally walked away we each had $11 in our pocket and were down 14. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

That put us out of the casino at 1:30 and the main dining room was closed for lunch so I had salad bar at Windjammer. I went back to my room and took a nap, wandered the ship a little bit, and then it was time for my massage, which which was just wonderful.

A quick walk outside and then it was Ben & Jerry's for dinner, some live music, more work on the computer, and then I ended up back in my room kind of early. My sister texted with an update on my mom. Some good, some very not good.

I talked to my husband on FaceTime for about an hour. His mother had a health crisis this week. She was in the hospital a few days but she's going to recover and she's back home.

So this brings us to looking at tomorrow, the final day of the cruise. I do not have the usual pre-disembarkation blues like I normally get. I need to go home and be with my mom and family. And even if things were perfectly rosy, it's been a great trip but I'm ready to get off the ship and get back to my home.

There is a a lot going on this evening, designed to keep us all up till midnight. The highlight of the evening is a 70s dance party that is starting in just a few minutes. I'm toying with whether or not I wanna go watch or if I just want to call it a night and stay in my room. I caught the tail end of the headliner show tonight, a singer who was really wonderful.

In any case that wraps up this day, I think I will go check out that 70s party just for a few photos. Another day at sea tomorrow and I'm sure the weather will get much colder. A sneak peek at the menus for tomorrow.

Well, I did run out of my room last night to go watch the 70s disco party. Wow they have some phenomenal dancers on staff! There was lots of blasting music and an appearance from the Village People! 😉

It was high energy all around and they even made a long love train that wrapped around the centrum!

Today we are back to super gray skies, cold air, icy wind, gray rough seas. The ship is gently lurking high out of the water and then slowly sinking back down into the water. Certain pockets of the ship are cracking and popping nonstop.  It's an indoor day for sure. There was a morning stretch class, lots of trivia on board today, they are pushing people to shop and use the casinos because they will close as soon as we enter the waters near Maryland which will be around 7 PM.

Last minute push to use spa services… A spa staff member is next to Windjammer announcing that they're giving $100 off massages today. Final push on spa products as well. And of course the shops are having frantic last minute sales.

They are having captains corner this morning in the Orpheum theater, and some salsa dancing later. Café latitude has a continuous line and the puzzle table has been discovered in a big way this morning. Lots of families crowded around having a good time. Haven't seen my puzzle buddy yet this morning.

I have to work for a few hours and then I will be participating in some of the activities this afternoon. Feeling more energized today and ready to have a good day. Overall, some really unexpected wonderful things have happened this cruise. That acupuncturist has reduced my symptoms by about 50% in just a few sessions. He has shown me how to do accupressure so I hope it lasts.

Enjoy the photos! More soon.

I said I'd rather sit alone and she pushed back pretty hard

I hate this. I don't agree with the pushback. As long as she tells you may have to wait if you don't choose to share there should be no pushback. I wouldn't appreciate feeling forced to do anything as long as I'm not complaining. Glad you got to sit on your own.

Personally I wouldn't mind if I was in a group and a solo came to share but as a solo, back off. I'm solo for a reason.

Well, it didn't really make sense as clearly there were many many couples who chose to not share their table with other couples and were consequently seated at eight-tops all around the restaurant. There were plenty of tables to go around.

The servers were on top of things and didn't mind seating people by themselves it was just the hosts that seemed to have been instructed to try to get singles to share.

Tonight was the parade of nations with all of the staff carrying their nation's flags. It was really fun. Lot of national pride out on the Dancefloor!

today passed by in a blur. At one point the seas got quite rough outside but the ship wasn't bouncing too badly. There was a lot of pushing to shop and use the casino because they had to close those around seven, once we entered Chesapeake Bay. There was a comedian this evening, they had captains corner today, lots of live music both in the day and in the evening, and then they had a flash mob this evening for about five minutes. They've been practicing that Flashmob all week and it was cute. then came the parade of nations which was really nice, followed by a big dance party.

My puzzle buddy and I were at the table a couple of times today, but the puzzle table seemed to be newly discovered by families today. Lots of families with kids crowding around wanting to work on the puzzle so my puzzle buddy and I left the table whenever that happened so everybody could get a chair and get a turn.  Café latitudes had a long line all day long and naturally, I got one last scoop of Ben & Jerry's.

The ceremony honoring the veterans this morning was really nice and they had a very big cake afterwards which was beautiful. I'll include a photo below.

I've come to bed relatively early so I can finish my book and donate it to the little library next to the puzzle table. I've got the TV on and of course it's playing the "wash your hands" song.

I'm self assist in the morning so I'll be barreling out of here and grabbing a cab for the airport.

all in all it's been a good trip and a nice break, which is really all I wanted. And every time I cruise solo, I figure out things that I like, things I don't like, things I want to do differently next time, things that I look forward to each cruise. It's certainly a different experience each time. I mean this time I tried gambling! And had those massages, which I haven't had in years. and with this cruise, I've sailed all of the classes of ships that royal Caribbean offers, so now I have a great frame of reference when planning.

Thank you so much to everybody that followed along and commented… It's been really fun sharing my photos and adventures with you. Safe travels!
