JasonOasis
A fire that started while the ship was docked at Grand Turk within Carnival Freedoms funnel this morning has been extinguished but according to reports it did cause some structural damage to the ships funnel. All guest and crew are safe, and all guest are currently ashore no word yet (at least publicly) if the remainder of the 5 day cruise is canceled. Momof4crazytocruise
That's crazy! The one and only Carnival cruise I have been on (and will ever go on) had all sorts of ash and debris spewing from the funnel all over the walking track. I remember thinking how odd that was, and there was someone literally assigned to follow the wind/plume and sweep the ash off the track. So, in short... I am not surprised. Good test of the new muster systems though!
smokeybandit
Looks like they're ferrying another ship to pick up the passengers. WAAAYTOOO
AlmondFarmer
I don’t think Carnival Freedom was connected to shore power.

Having the exhaust bend is only going to collect unburnt fuel and those crispy balls found aft balconies every morning. Smokeybandits comment about being Sharmin clean are absolutely spot on, this fire was caused by improper maintenance.

AlmondFarmer
If this situation occurs on a Royal ship with a kids splash pad, the situation could be quickly controlled by pointing all water cannons at funnel.
DunkelBierJay
Who remembers this? Ironic that the namesake is the same...Freedom of the Seas in 2015. I sailed on her not long after this. MamaShark
smokeybandit
From Matt's update, that was truly just smoke from a contained fire and not the stack itself on fire. And the cruise went on as scheduled https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2015/07/22/fire-reported-royal-caribbeans-freedom-of-the-seas-cruise-ship

My comment was intended to be humorous. A ship connected to shore power with engines off is less likely to have a fire in funnel.

I had no idea about it, but when we got off the ship, our shuttle was facing the burnt side and I wondered about the damage. Couldn't find this video at the time though; just news articles.
