A fire that started while the ship was docked at Grand Turk within Carnival Freedoms funnel this morning has been extinguished but according to reports it did cause some structural damage to the ships funnel.  All guest and crew are safe, and all guest are currently ashore no word yet (at least publicly) if the remainder of the 5 day cruise is canceled.

The second link below provides video from two different angles.

That's crazy! The one and only Carnival cruise I have been on (and will ever go on) had all sorts of ash and debris spewing from the funnel all over the walking track. I remember thinking how odd that was, and there was someone literally assigned to follow the wind/plume and sweep the ash off the track. So, in short... I am not surprised. Good test of the new muster systems though!

She had been fed low grade diesel for years. Her hind quarters built up soot (unburnt fuel) and the fire was her Colyte.
I bet she feels much better now.

Absolutely what happened!

Also worth mentioning is that Whale Tail design. Having the exhaust bend is only going to collect unburnt fuel and those crispy balls found aft balconies every morning.

Smokeybandits comment about being Sharmin clean are absolutely spot on, this fire was caused by improper maintenance.

Grand Turk, where the ship was docked does not have shore power

Correct. My comment was intended to be humorous.
A ship connected to shore power with engines off is less likely to have a fire in funnel.

Who remembers this? Ironic that the namesake is the same...Freedom of the Seas in 2015. I sailed on her not long after this.

We got on her just under a month after this fire. I had no idea about it, but when we got off the ship, our shuttle was facing the burnt side and I wondered about the damage. Couldn't find this video at the time though; just news articles.
