Vancity Cruiser
Just got notice that our October 21st Navigator (rare seven night itinerary) has been chartered we have been given some options but since most Navigator sailings are 3 and 4 nights the 7 night options are several weeks outside of the original date. It was supposed to be our anniversary cruise. Oh well, first world problems WAAAYTOOO and AlohaLivin
twangster
Sorry to hear that. Many of us have been in this exact position. It absolutely sucks when it happens. Unfortunately many cruise lines do it so it's not like you can go running to a competitor and escape this practice. Reigert2008
agree with @twangster, i was supposed to be on the 8N Allure repositioning cruise from Florida to Texas, but they canceled it (although the ship is still moving there around this time) and none of the replacement options worked for us. The worst part is that they wouldn't price protect our Cruise Planner purchases. We had the refreshment package at $18 a day. Took a few sales, but we did get that price again eventually. Seems like they could do something for the CP purchases, if you or your TA "move" to another cruise like we did. I totally get not protecting it if someone cancels the cruise and then rebooks, but ours was just a move. Now we're on a 8N on the Harmony which will be amazing. Still a bummer! I will stick with Navigator and pick one of the alternative dates. While not normally a points chaser I do really want the double points from this one after Symphony was cancelled in January. We would have hit diamond on our Radiance sailing this month but because of the Symphony cancellation we now need Navigator to hit it before our 10 nights on Oasis is January. twangster

twangster
Maybe the charter companies have been using competitors ships but now with something new on the west coast these companies are seeking something different to charter so Navigator is getting some charter love. (or hate from our perspective). RWDW1204
csrsue
I've actually never heard of this before. Is this common? I have two upcoming Navigator cruises scheduled - one for May 2nd and one for August 29th. Fingers crossed these don't end up cancelling. smokeybandit
Looks like an Atlantis cruise in October and an 80s cruise in March 2023 DanielB

Wow, our 1st cruise is on Navigator, sailing Oct 17, right before the cruise the poster was scheduled on. Ours is now a honeymoon cruise for us, hope it doesn't get canceled. JazzBassMan
I was scheduled to be on the 3 March, 2023 sailing of Navigator and it was chartered by "The 80's cruise". Took some wrangling from the travel agent to confirm with Royal that it was indeed cancelled since it disappeared from the Royal Caribbean website well before the notice went out. Thankfully he was able to get us switched over to a 8 night on Odyssey on 25 Feb 23 instead. Hoping to get that same itinerary on Navigator in February 2024 though since the 7 night looks like a ton of fun.

Good for them....looks like a fun time.

The closer you are to sailing, the less likely it is to happen. Royal has general rules for chartering (someone probably has a link for the costs and restrictions but I don't). Basically, the more people that have already booked the cruise, the harder it is for someone to charter the ship because of how many people get screwed. This usually means companies charter a ship more than a year out. It's also possible to do a partial charter where some company reserves let's say 40% of the rooms and Royal sells the rest. csrsue
