SteveinSC got a reaction from Big Tule in Feeling Discouraged....
...AAAAAAALL of this. Kudos to those that tip big....I just dont. But its because I dont ask a lot. I try to make service peoples jobs as EASY as possible. Me and my fam are very low maintenance and feel wrong for asking things of others. I figure God gave me two arms, two legs, and half a brain, so I can do most things myself...I prepay gratuities and will tip above that if service goes above and beyond.

While I agree that on the surface that logic seems faulty, in some cases it could make sense. If the bidding for royalup was robust enough, and the upgrade chain sufficiently long, it could pay off. In your example, a $6000 owners suite is held aside. And the royalup starts at a crown loft, and continues through grand suite, jr suite, ocean view balcony, central park view balcony, ocean view, and interior. An average bid of $900 would yield $6300, and the now empty interior room could be sold for $1500 more. After the dominoes fell and the inexpensive room was sold, $7800 would be realized in this example, plus a whole bunch of goodwill would be established. I could be completely wrong, but the math is insane enough to work sometimes.

This is very good news, since I put in a weak bid on an interior to balcony upgrade for Rhapsody in April! CONGRATS and ENJOY THAT BALCONY!!!!!!

Hi all, I just got notified 3 days before my sailing on Mariner that my upgrade bid has been accepted!
I booked an interior stateroom for me and my fiancée and placed a bid for 135 a person.
That bid was accepted and now we are in a balcony room!!
That was also a “weak” bid on their bid meter!

All suites have been showing sold out on my sailing since before I placed my bid so don’t lose hope.

I agree 100%. This is how I operate on my cruises, and nothing wrong with that at all.

YES! I remember once staying in a suite, we needed ice, I called the Suite Concierge for the request. He responded: "right away sir, I'll have your Stateroom Attendant deliver it." I thanked him, hung up, and said to my wife ... "I feel like a jerk, I could have asked the Stateroom Attendant." ??

I cannot even tell you what I tip each cruise. I tip what I feel is appropriate. Don't think I've ever tipped more than $50. We are, very low key people, we don't ask for much and keep a tidy room. I'll admit, seeing the big tips people leave for a Genie freaks me out, because we would barely use the person, even less if we are cruising with friends not in a suite.

$50 is very generous. Whoever said that the daily grats don’t get the room attendants doesn’t know what he** they’re talking about. They most certainly do. Ignore that forum. Someone is just trying to make themselves look like big spenders. That kind are usually making up for some personal shortcoming.
