It’s really not the greatest experience at all. Whether you decide to go or not, your not missing much (especially if the drinks are not a big deal). I personally don’t go to the diamond lounge even when not staying in a suite. I find it annoying & crowded. I’m glad they give you the option to get your diamond drinks at any other bar on the ship w/o having to deal with the lounge.

Why annoying?  I get the crowded...last cruise on Mariner we were in the overflow bar outside and next to the lounge but it wasn't too bad.  Met some nice people

Brilliance does and Navigator doesn't. We chose Liberty because the new Suite Lounge is where the old Concierge Lounge was on Brilliance, and therefore, we assumed there would be windows. After I read this, I searched for pictures, and yes, the Liberty's Suite Lounge has lovely large windows, and an outside seating area. Disaster averted! ?

Sounds like an awesome place!  We are fairly new Diamond members so have not experienced a lot of boats yet at that level....but we will ?

We did a turtle swim, cenote, and beach.  Not sure if its the same cenote but this was the best excursion we have ever done!  and we have done 2-3 dozen.  it was very clean, water crystal clear, and fun.  You don't really get to snorkel like you envision you would in the ocean.  Its not real expansive.  Some of them you can then "cliff" jump in to, which was fun.  Not the one we went to in Cozumel though because you went down a hole to the cave.  Heres some pictures of the one we went to.

A suite lounge with no windows?!?  Please, tell me this is not true on her sister Liberty. We board her in about 40 hours, and are looking forward to the lounge.

Some diamond/suite lounges don't have windows I think.  I might have had my class wrong on which one does not.  Someone can probably tell which ones don't have them.  Just looked at liberty specifically and it DOES have windows!

I love going to the MDR for breakfast on every cruise everyday.  Oh I will graze at the Windjammer after the MDR breakfast for a little pastry or muffin.  I don't think I've ever had lunch in the MDR.  I'm not really a lunch person.  I always go the the MDR for dinner too.  I like getting to know the waitstaff.

Agreed!  love the personal feel of having the same waiters everynight!  We will walk through the "mouth jammer" in the evening watching people grab hotdogs, burgers, pizza and can't believe people choose that over MDR food!

We’ve never done dinner in the Windjammer ........ is it better quality/taste than the stuff they serve at lunch?  Sometimes we’ve thought it would be nice to go there when we don’t feel like taking 2 hours for dinner, but never followed thru.

No it is not better quality and taste!  Think buffet ribs sitting there to be picked or going to a restaurant and getting ribs where they are served to you when they are cooked.  If you go to MDR and say you need to hurry they will get you out in an hour or less.  We do this when there's something we want to do and dinner gets in the way.

Has anyone done this excursion recently and want to share thoughts or experiences?  Falmouth Jamaica shore excursion named Dolphin Cove Aquatic Encounter or Dolphin Cove Swim?  Since I have a child younger then 8 in my party I think I will have 1 adult with her do the encounter and the older 2 kids and other adult do the swim.  In my research it looks like there are 2 dolphin coves and I just want to make sure that we are not going to be split up and go to different ones if we aren't all doing the same experience?  Looks like the main one is in Ochos Rios.  Wanting to pick the brain of someone that has done this excursion!!

They will get split up at the dolphin cove.  We did this in 2015 at the Ocho Rios one with the falls climb.  It was a 45 min drive FYI.  This dolphin swim was fine but it was the least favorite of all the ones we have done at other ports FWIW.  They had a lunch provided on our excursion that was outstanding...the jerk chicken was to die for!!!!  We were not fans of Jamaica as the people are rude and pushy trying to sell all their crap!!!!!!!  The pictures are VERY expensive but at other dolphins you can negotiate, so I assume you can at this one too.

We've had a couple sailings that switched to local time, but it was well publicized both in the Compass and general announcements from staff, especially when getting off the ship.

Very true!  Signs posted to whatever time you need.  That one couple that didn't pay attention to that and got captured on video standing on the pier yelling at the boat as it went away were evidence that you need to pay attention to boat time! ?

did either of you end up doing this excursion and have anything to report?  I am looking at booking the same one for Jan 2020.  It would be for myself, hubby, 12, 9 and 4 yr old children.

FWIW, the Falmouth dolphins was our least favorite of all the dolphins we have done.  It was at least a 45 min drive too.  Its across the street from dunns river falls.  The jerk chicken was outstanding that was provided!!!!!

  11. As mentioned several times, if something goes wrong on your excursion booked through Royal (and it will sometimes) they WILL get you back to the boat at their expense.  This happened to a friend of mine.  The boat left port so they took a boat to catch up to the cruise and they boarded like a tender would as the boat was moving.  Worth the extra money to book with Royal in my opinion!  Lots of excursions you book with 3rd parties use the exact same companies and you go with the masses to the same locations.  Just like when you go on these booked through Royal you will have people from other ships and companies at port.  Im sure there are some 3rd parties that are not though.

That happened to us as well, my very first cruise experience.  Arrived to get on Freedom in Miami back in '06.  After check in, we were directed to another room, without explanation, and then put on a bus.  I was puzzled why we were getting on a bus because the ship was right there.  Once the bus was full and we were underway, an RCL employee informed us that the ship had to be disinfected due to a Noro outbreak and we were being brought to an animal park to spend the time until it was done.  They provided food and all the shows were free, but it wasn't the most fun time I've had.  We were finally bused back around 5 and the ship was on it's way by 7.

Wow thats way better than our experience.  They just left us in the area you wait to board......for hours...granted it was 2019 so 13 years difference.

We like the specialty restaurants just for a change of scenery. I don't know that the food is any better than the MDR sometimes, but it is more intimate, which is a nice change from the MDR.

Agree, more intimate like sitting at a candle lit table in a fancy restaurant with dimmed lights.  The atmosphere is pretty nice.  Less hectic than MDR since theres less staff and guests.

Every now and then, you may have to wait in the check in area if the previous sailing is slow to disembark.  That happened to us once in FLL waiting to get on Oasis.  The ship didn't start to board until 12.  But we've gotten on as early as 11 on other sailings.

We had that experience also but we didn't get on until much later.  The boat came back "sick" so they had to sanitize the entire ship (which is another conversation in and of itself!).  We sat in the port a LONG TIME!!!  Pray you don't have this experience!  But yes, generally you can start boarding by 1030-1100.  Just remember your room won't be ready until 1pm.

  15. We tried specialty once.  It was nice and fancy but for the extra money we didn't feel like it was all that much better than MDR.  We really like the main dining room where the waiters get to know you and what you want and expect.  By day 2 or 3 they know what to have when you sit down ready (drinks, etc).  They also will pay attention to things you like extra of (breads, sides, etc),  We feel more pampered in the main dining with the extra attention you get from building the personal relationship with the waiter and asst waiter.  The food is usually really good too!  We value the personal-ness a bit more than the better food (but again the MDR is very good).  We would rather put the money in to shore excursions, escape rooms, other activities, etc and experience those since the MDR is usually VERY good and the experience for us isn't that much better in specialty dining.  Just our thoughts and opinions...
