deep1 reacted to barbeyg in When is your next Celebrity/Azamara Cruise?
We will be boarding Apex in early August for 14 nights to Norwegian Fjords, followed by 9 nights on land in the UK, followed by 15 nights home on RCI Brilliance via Iceland, Greenland NE. So excited! 🙂

My ex-brother-in-law pieced together a cruise for his family, my ex wife, her boyfriend and my daughter's family. Then, brother in law had to miss the cruise for serious medical procedure.
When it counts! The Icon is more than a ship its a living breathing city equipped properly to deal with the unforeseen... My grandson aged 1 1/2 picked up a respiratory infection about mid way through this weeks cruise. The med center was sharp! The staff were full on professional. The virus was not responding to meds and they moved him to their ICU.
BY the time they were ready to dock at Coco Cay the fluid in lungs had continued to worsen. IN a seamless team effort, they got my grandson off the ship to a seaplane air ambulance they brought in. My son in law accompanied him to Lauderdale while my daughter remained aboard with my other grandson. Another ambulance transported the baby (and son in law) to Broward. Diagnosed as bad RSV and not possible suspected pneumonia. The meds kicked in. Baby was discharged to heal at home. Daughter, both grandsons and son in law all doing better. Thank you Icon for having a state of art facility and staff...

My daughter did first thing. I'm one of those stubborn types who needs protruding bones or dangling limbs before seeing a doctor. For little ones I take no chances. I'm a big game fishing boat captain injuries are common and often we are on remote islands with no medical care at all. I can do some basic patching up til they can get to real help. So, I've developed a sense of what needs professional help. When in doubt, take em to the doctor...

Ya know. We often hear of ships being rerouted or helicopters or "code". Never think it will involve someone close. But....... It always involves someone and someones loved ones. Thankful this one turned out ok..

Daughter said it was right at traumatic. She said she really started to come unglued when the plane with her baby and husband took off, leaving her there with the older (3yo) alone at Coco Cay. She said the staff was great comfort... The little one has had lung issues at home since birth but never a problem on vacations, till now.
