After dinner was a little more wandering, and then we headed up to our room for the first showing of Aqua80. Our plan of not eating to the point of exploding was done in by the snacks that Derick sent up. Bonus was another embarrassing picture of the children to use later in life.

unfortunately, sea conditions were not ideal. They gave it a shot, and started the show, but there was enough side to side rocking that they could not safely put on the show. It was bad enough that the water in the pool was sloshing into the audience. They were able to complete the opening bit. While disappointing, the safety of the performers is paramount, so we will have to try another night. The audience was great too, because when the cast came out to wave, there was a very raucous round of applause and standing ovations.

this had me cracking up 😂 and when you wrote that you were jealous of his cheese pull, i thought you were referring to the pull he had in getting a grilled cheese or multiple cheese dish items 🤣 and then i saw the picture and it all became clear!!

Back to yesterday. After lunch we wandered a bit then headed back to the room to unpack. We also got to sit and chat with our stateroom attendant Ketut. He is very nice and so far the room has been perfect.
Later I headed up to deck 15. I again managed the Facebook group for this sailing and we had our sail away meet and greet. I got to meet a lot of members and enjoyed many a cocktail. Actual departure was delayed because traffic at the port was so bad, supply deliveries were late. I remember seeing one truck arrive at 3:30.
Soon enough it was time for dinner. Is should come as no surprise we were in coastal kitchen for filet night. Our waiter Elroy told us that filet night is the busiest night they have. Dinner did not disappoint, it was delicious. Appetizers consisted of a Caesar Salad, escargot, crispy pork belly, and since the mozzarella from Giovanni’s is never enough, we got the burrata salad. Johnny got the chicken noodle soup. Entrees were the filet for all of us adults. Lydia was a degenerate and ordered the sirloin, and Johnny asked for grilled cheese. I was pretty jealous of his cheese pull.

I’ll have one tomorrow and report back
I like how you think. The crew ARE cracking down on the hogs. People are reporting that after 45 minutes towels are being removed.

What if, instead of taking everyone's towels, you randomly moved towels to opposite areas of the pool, taking great care to split up towels that reserved chairs in groups of two or three?
Like, if a run of 3 chairs are reserved on port side, I'd take the middle towel and move it starboard, etc.
Then I'd grab a drink in the SL and watch the impending confusion.  🤗

    Lots to catch up here...
So I woke up at 6am before my alarm. So much for sleeping in on vacation. After a quick breakfast in the hotel, nothing exciting there, typical hotel breakfast. Julie and I grabbed an uber to Target to get a few last minute items.

While getting ready, I discovered the reason for the angled toilet. Either someone got measurements completely wrong, or the size of the door was increased after the plans were finalized.

I had pre-booked an Uber to the port and he arrived right at 10am and we headed off to the port. As everyone has remarked, the route to the port is a mess right now. The tunnel is closed, and there is construction everywhere slowing everything down. Our driver didn't think ahead and got frustrated when he got to the tunnel and found it closed. I was thinking to myself, how did you not know this.....
Eventually we go to the port and saw our favorite sign

We were greeted by the porters and the shoreside team who quickly whisked us away, past the suspended propellers and into the elevators.

We got to the port right around 10:45 and boarding had just commenced. The suites/pinnacle lounge was empty at this point, so there was no wait at security. We were quickly checked in and messages were sent to Derick that we had arrived. The shoreside team told us that he had just boarded one of his other families, so we sat and watched our muster drill videos.
Shortly after, we got to see the smiling face of Derick approaching from the gangway. We never really got to see him last year without his mask, so it was nice to really see his face, and his huge smile. Hugs were exchanged all around and we headed onto the ship. I blame my mother for this, since she cried for Hallmark commercials, but I always get little emotional when you step onto the ship, and the crew says "welcome home"
On our way to the muster station to get that out of the way, Derick let us know that there are 6400 passengers with 1400 kids, so we are full. As 3:30 there were still 780 passengers who had not completed their muster check in.
We were pleasantly surprised, but our room was ready for us, so we headed there. We had a nice chat with Derick, who went over our benefits, and the usual housekeeping items. He let us know that requests for food things are taking 45 minutes or more to fulfill if they are spur of the moment. If we let him know the night before, they can assign someone to the request and it's fulfilled for when you want it. He reminded us that the venue has to be open for you to order from it. He also mentioned that the snacks will be more on a per request basis. He did say we will have daily fresh fruit, cookies etc because those keep better. We actually like this better, because so much food went wasted last year.
Our lunch this afternoon was at Giovannis. I actually stuck with my plan for a lighter lunch so I can fully enjoy dinner, and some snacks this evening. Derick has us scheduled to watch Aqua80 from the balcony tonight, and told us that he will be having snacks and desserts from Playmakers delivered. I'm looking forward to seeing what he sends up.
There were three Caprese Salads and a Cheese and Meat Board ordered ordered as appetizers.

Lydia also got the Chicken Picatta

and The Boss ordered the Garlicky Herb Prawns

Desserts were Tiramisu for The Boss and I, and Ice Cream for the kids.

of course I used this as an opportunity to get some embarrassing pictures of the kids.

Lunch was delicious and we left with full bellies and with optimism for a great cruise.
Cheers to you all for reading along. I will have many of beverages for you while at sea!!

Side note, starklink is so so. We shall see how the inter webs performs during the week.

    Thank you!!!!
We have made it to Miami!!! On our second flight leg, I got another free beer. It's a minor consolation prize because when we got to baggage claim, The Boss's bag had been smooooooshed....Southwest did give us a $100 voucher to use within the next year. I also get to test out our travel insurance to see how that goes. Things happen, and we aren't letting it get us down. In the grand scheme of things, this is really minor.

Once we were done in the baggage office, we called for our Uber, and 5 minutes later we are at our hotel. Again, this is a Homewood Suites by Hilton. We were able to get a 2br Suite. This has 1 king bed, 2 queens, and a sleeper sofa. There are 2 bathrooms, and a small kitchen. With our group this is perfect.
    King room

    Bathroom for the other bedroom.

    two queens

    Kitchenette

Living room....Julie was misbehaving, so she is in timeout..

Apparently the people fitting the bathroom out, didn't know how to use a square..

Time to catch some zzzzzz's. We have an early AM target run for some beverages to bring on board with us, and then our ride to the port will be here at 10am.

I couldn't sleep well, for some reason my room kept getting way too hot. That has not been an issue so far. I would get up and turn the air down and then it would be too cold and then it would be too hot and so forth and so on. We began the docking process at 6 AM and of course all the shuddering and vibrating woke me up but that was OK. I went up deck and I'm so glad I got up there right when I did. Not only did I see a beautiful sunrise but there was a huge unexpected surprise! A tow boat drifted by our ship carrying the Space X rocket.

    Important Discovery!
We (once again) took refuge in the Diamond Lounge, this time because it was quiet and to get out of the heat…and hubby needed to charge his phone. Behind our favorite high-back seats facing the entry doors closest to the food/drink station is a 110 volt outlet!

We used Jorge Luis Perez for a tour of Valle De Guadalupe while in Ensenada.  I had contacted him a month or so via email prior to arrival and he was very responsive with emails back and forth a few times weekly.  He gave us great recommendations on locations to visit and even adjusted to our specific desires (2 wineries, 1 brewery, and a food cart).  The wineries we ended up choosing were Decantos Vinicola and Casa Frida.  The brewery was called Transpeninsular.  He was quite affordable and even gave us a small tour of Ensenada prior to making our way to the wine region.  His vehicle was very clean and offered us beer, water, and snacks during our ride. The highlight of the trip was ending at a VERY local seafood cart.  We even had him order for us since we only speak English.  Jorge is truly a hidden gem in the area. His email is [email protected].

On Navigator now... Yep, the menu is slightly trimmed back, but the impact to me has so far been minimal....😊

Edited to add... Day 4, no comfort food on MDR menu.  I understand it's a theme night, but I still expected a traditional/default beef entree.  I don't do roasted tofu or enchiladas in a place where I'm expected to change into long pants.  But for the folks that appreciate such a menu, I'm still happy for you 👍

Edited again... Not to worry, I'll just go to Windjammers.  It was save money night there too.  No carvery and no minute steaks.  So I filled up on salad, hamburger patties and sweet and sour chicken. Glad I had a nice lunch in Mazatlan.
I really thought the new menu would not be an issue.  I've since changed my mind.  Just possibly, this could be a reason to get more folks into specialty dining.

    2 French night
    3 Mexican night
    4 Caribbean night, currently night
    5. Italian night.

No any diamond or C&A perks need to be purchased onboard. The cruise planner price is a discount and you can't use both.
I found it wasn't worth it to do as diamond because it was basic VOOM. Now that  it's the stream option. It might be worth it.
You can ask the VOOM person to use your one day on a second device.

Day two we were in Ensenada! We woke up around 6 and the ship was still in motion but you could see the sun starting to rise above the mountains along the coast.

We docked around 7:30 and were clear by 8:15am or so. The port is also a shipping port so we got to watch this MSC ship get filled up as the day went on. When we left at 6pm it was towering with containers!

Our excursion was set for 9:30am so we went up to the Windjammer for breakfast and had no problems finding seats. We learned later to never start picking up food until you've reviewed the back area since all the best stuff is at the International Cuisine station.

We were met by our tour guide by the black pedestrian bridge near the port entrance and were whisked off immediately in a van to the ATV shop a few blocks away. We ended up getting a private tour! The shop offers several tours and while there were other guests riding at the same time as us, no one else chose the Mountain Tour at 9:30. Our guide Enrique was great. Halfway through the tour you get access to a large open dirt area to tool around in and after he saw how good my husband was, the back half of the tour was a LOT faster. I had the gas pressed down all the way (pedal to the metal, if you will) several times to try and keep up! It was super fun and had some great sweeping ocean/city views, I highly recommend ATV Ensenada.
The tour starts in town and you wind your way up into the mountains and then off road for a long portion. The off roading trails are vast! You could easily get lost roaming around in there without the guide.

I spy the Navigator back at the port!

The tour lasted a little over 2 hours and they would've driven us back to the port but we asked after some good al pastor and were rewarded with a drop off at Señor Poblano's instead.

After 2 al pastor tacos and a cerveza we wandered up the street to the ever-popular Papas and Beer and watched some of our fellow ship passengers get tossed upside down by the waitstaff. Always entertaining to watch to say the least.

After finally giving into a street vendor for the purchase of one woven "I'm on a boat b**ch" bracelet for $5, we headed back to the ship for some drink package usage, and of course a trip or two down the slides.

We ended up forgoing a lengthy trip to the MDR for Caribbean night in the WJ. The curry was AMAZING. After dinner we spent some time in the casino and doubled our $40 slots budget on the I ❤️ Free Games machine. Turns out I do indeed heart free games.

A new friend was awaiting us upon our return to the room! He's kinda got a badass MC vibe. 😂

IRMO12HD reacted to Cruising to Retirement! in Navigator of the Seas / Oct 7-10, 2022
My Husband and I just got off the Navigator on Friday September 30th from a 7 day cruise!  Our second cruise on Navigator since the remodel.  We love this ship so very much!  We did not go to Ensenada this last time so interesting to hear more about Ensenada.  We did book a Grand Suite this time with some remaining future credits along with cash and since our 38 Anniversary and since we had our honeymoon on a cruise ship doing this exact itinerary meant in June of 1984 this meant the world to us and my 60th birthday celebration too!  I'll keep my fingers  crossed for your possible upgrade!  Our first cruise on Navigator in a suite we had a casino discount in March 2019 that enabled us to upgrade to an Owners suite.  It was awesome too!  We have been in the Balcony before on Navigator and of course loved it also.  Actually 95% of the time we are either in a balcony or Jr. Suite so this was extra special for the occasion which is not our norm but was very special.   Absolutely hands down our favorite of all Suite lounge up next to the viking Crown Lounge!  I assume everyone has their favoites also.  This ship with all the wonderful specialty restaurants is extra special to us.  We had the ultimate dining package and were in a food coma for half the cruise.  We book a dining package whether we cruise balcony or suite.  We knew we were in trouble after having lunch at Giovannis and then we had over a 2 pound Lobster for each of us on the first night at Hooked while looking out to the water which is a little different than Symphony.  They have all my favorite restaurants except 150 and the Hibachi selection at Izumi.  The package last September when we booked at a much lower than it is presently so very fortunate with this one.  No worries we did not go hungry for sure.
Now 1 new favorite and 1 old favorite to us I must tell all of you.  First my husband and I are San Francisco Bay Californians at heart and live in Atlanta Ga now.  My favorite is wine.  My husband likes it all...  Well they have a new Women of Wine meaning 7 wineries that are run by Women from all over the world.  The Sommelier gave us a brief overview and then a projector was set up with the women owners and wine masters showing and explaining their journey with each of their wineries along with a plate of various cheeses and fruit of sort.  It was brief but very informative and very interesting  It was by far the best plated presentation of a wine tasting with around 30 to 40 people in the side of the dining room since there is not a vintages on this ship.  I sincerely recommend to a wine lover this tasting should not be missed.  I did not see this on the Symphony in May or we would have done this for sure, but they did again say this was new.
Also our old, favorite Chef's Table is on the Navigator.  We did this once before.  First, the location is on a perch above the second floor dining room with a huge round table for the 12 of us.  Lots more conversation can be had around a round table and we feel the best wine ever at a chef's table that we have been too.  Of course if you have the ultimate dining package and only incur the additional $50 cost instead of the normal $100 or more sometime so there was no doubt.  We did this back in March of 2019 also.  The other unique thing about our chef's table was this was our second time having the chef's table on the last night of the ship.  Our first time we found out that we had not used our onboard credit yet on the last day and I called and set us up!  We said if we come back we are going to do this on the last day.  Well when we came back this time and first got on the ship we made all our dining reservations with the package and the last day was the only day open for the chef's table.  I think the chef's table on this ship is definitely not a secret.
The one downside to these two wonderful events is they both fell for on the last day since the wine event was only on the last day.  So we were feeling no pain after dinner.  Thank gosh we had packed before the wine tasting event....  So be aware.
I will say being at the chef's table makes you so happy on the last night you don't have a chance to get too sad at least that's how I always feel even with specialty dining also.  Just my happy place.
The one thing that was mentioned about a month ago about the disembarking is no joke.  It makes no rhyme or reason.  This did not help for suites but everyone should carry their luggage off if you can.  We did and saw some suite friends still waiting on their luggage when we finally got down there.  We sure couldn't figure out what they did or didn't do because this was very smooth for everyone getting on.
The very last thing if you are like us and have a plane to catch especially getting back to the midwest or east coast look into their excursions for after the cruise with the airport drop off to LAX.  We did the LA highlights and Rodeo drive including Beverley hills for 5 hours in the most comfortable coach bus that had a great bathroom too!  We went inside the area of the Dolby theatre and I walked the stairs that the actors and actresses do that get pictured coming into the Academy Awards, Hollywood walk of fame, walked rodeo and Melrose, and way way too many landmarks to miss.   Also the excursion was only $98 so cheaper than even lyft if we had been in the car ourselves.  When we knew our flight was later getting out we were happy, but after the taxis and ubers wanted anywhere from $100 to $180 we settled with a large Lyft with another girl who was dropped off close to our hotel for $50 for her and $70 for us.  We stayed at the awesome Hotel Maya right on Long Beach Harbor next to the Queen Mary.  It was awesome.  The bridge lit up at night with so many beautiful colors.  So wish we were as lucky as Twangster to stay in the Queen Mary overnight.  Bill and I still talk about it.  We truly thank you again Twangster for those awesome pictures we will never forget.
I know you are probably tired of this long winded spill but I must say one more.  We got there on Wednesday afternoon and our ship left on Friday because I wanted to go to Catalina Island.  We could just walk over the bridge get on the ferry Thursday and spend the day.  That very was a yacht ferry if there ever was one.  It was smooth gorgeous seats and the hour flew by.  There is so much awesome sights and history at Catalina between the movies made there, the hollywood A list coming over, Marilyn Monroe marrying there at 15 to Wrigley mogul who owned the island and had the Chicago cubs spring training there for 25 years.  Also lots of World War II secret training of underwater new scuba equipment, diving, and more.
Needless to say we had a ton of fun.  The ports have a different wonderful vibe than the carribean ports to us too.  If you ever get to that side of the world to cruise you won't be disappointed!
Happy Cruising Daley and Happy Cruising Everyone!
    Michelle

    Turnaround Day
I had a couple of calls and a few things I needed to get done before calling it for work.  Hubby got coffee and breakfast in the WJ before it filled up with the entire ship trying to fit in breakfast before they had to get off.  He brought back coffee and a variety of good eats for me to enjoy before we had to go meet the other back-to-backers in the Star Lounge at 9am.
We hung out together until everyone had checked in and then waited for a couple of wheelchairs to arrive for those who needed assistance, then as a group we all walked off the ship, down the super long building to the immigration, got our lovely faces scanned and cleared, sat down for about 10 minutes waiting until we were able to get back on the ship, then all got back on the ship.  It was the simplest thing. 🥰
Once back on, we hung out at the R Bar for a while in very comfy chairs visiting with a couple we had met during the immigration process.  When it was time for lunch, the four of us went into the dining room for the turnaround lunch.  I was ready to eat my fingers off when we got in there, and it took them forever just to bring bread.  The other side of the dining room was for the Key, and they had all the servers.  We had 2 – it was super sad.  All the food came out cold and very late.  My hubby’s appetizer came out just before his meal after the other three of us had long eaten our appetizers and they had taken our plates away. We’re probably going to avoid that next time and just go get pizza or Windjammer. 🍕
After lunch we wandered around for a bit until the Diamond Lounge opened up and made our way to our “newly available to us” exclusive hideaway.  It was quiet in there and we stayed and played a game for a while we people-watched.  It was great.  We hung out until the Diamond happy hour began and nibbled and drank for a bit until it was time for the dining room.  Neither of us wanted to go put long pants on, so we went over to Playmakers and had a basket of wings and beer – in our comfy shorts.  I wouldn't say I've converted, but I drank it.  I mulled orange wedges and added that to my drink each time.  At the end our server commented that my beer looked like a fruit salad.  🤣
After wings we went over to the liquor store where they were holding a sipping event.  We hung out and got in line a few times to maximize our free sips, and enjoyed the different offerings.  Hoping they do that all week long!  😋
We wandered over to the Star Lounge and found some super comfy chairs and listened to some pretty good jazz while using our Diamond drink tickets (we each get 4 drinks a day as diamond members).  What a great thing!!
When the jazz took a turn into music that wasn’t as interesting to us we went up to the karaoke up in the Viking Crown lounge and heard a couple of amazing singers perform for the rest of us who all decided not to even try following them.  When it turned into just the teens singing because nobody else was signing up, we left.
We found ourselves at the Schooner Bar because we heard someone doing Elton John.  As it turns out, Andy Elton – the impersonator from Anthem that I had seen at the Zen Coloring – was asked at the last minute to fill in for the pianist who was supposed to be performing.  It was standing room only when we got there, and we stood on the outskirts of the crowd to listen to him – he’s that good.  That was a total treat and a fantastic end to our very long day.

    Final Thoughts for Cruise #1
    Inside Cabin:
In order to make this room work, we had to have the beds apart.  Otherwise you literally have to climb over the end of the bed to get to one side. The bathroom isn’t as large in the inside cabin as in any other room.  The shower is the same – way too small! The storage in the room is ample with the help of a hanging closet organizer, a hanging shoe organizer, and multiple foldable drawer organizers (from IKEA), that hold all of our little things. Virtual Balcony:
It is a true live visual off the bow of the ship but the video is not super clear so it’s kind of hazy.  Hubby says it’s 720p at best. When we wanted to see if it was sunny out, it was hard to tell – it was light out but couldn’t quite tell if it was sunny.  When we went outside, it was very sunny.  Hair Dryer:
When using the hair dryer that comes with the room, I quickly wished I had brought my own from home.  It is fine for drying my hair – it might take longer than normal, but it’s fine.  However, in order to make it work, you have to hold down a button the entire time.  I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and have already had surgery on them once.  It was quite uncomfortable for me to hold the button down while using the hair dryer.  I know…first world problems. Ship Overall:
On turnaround day, there was an overwhelming sewage smell in our hallway.  I don’t recall smelling that on Anthem, Allure, or Oasis.  I don’t know if this is from the size or age of the ship in comparison, but it makes me not want to get on a smaller/older ship again.  I kept spraying our orange air freshener in the hallway to try to help - it didn't really help.  🤢 The ship isn’t in bad shape, but it is definitely showing her age.  The shell décor in the bathroom gives away that it was built in 2002. At least they don’t have geese décor anywhere!  It is nice not having to walk an eternity from one end of the ship to the other.  I find it refreshing that walking from one elevator bank to another doesn’t take us 10 minutes. The suite sun deck isn’t clearly marked and/or restricted.  It’s not super clear where it begins/ends, so I imagine it’s invaded by others regularly.  The sun deck on deck 13 is awesome!  It’s truly set up for hardcore sun-worshipers. The Schooner Bar is right outside of the casino and if you’re sensitive to smoke, you may not want to hang out there much as the smoke doesn’t stay in the casino. The mini-humans love the main pools and it becomes a splash-zone very quickly.  The pool in the Solarium was great for relaxing, but really needed to be bigger.  Oh!  The Solarium pool is painted dark blue and the blue rubs off on anything touching it!  When were in there the first time, a gal we were visiting with looked like a giant smurf!  It comes off easily, but if you’re wearing white or a light-colored suit, beware!   Food:
We’re just starting our second cruise and we’re looking at doing the dining package for our final cruise just because the limited menu in the dining room is not really doing it for us.  We’ll see – this could change. Would I sail Navigator again?  Jury is still out on this for me.  The sewage smell is really a turnoff for me and that is stuck in my head at the moment (I'm writing this on day 2 of our second cruise and the smell was just finally cleared from our hallway early this afternoon).  Right now, this is the only Royal ship on the west coast heading into warmer weather except for those from Vancouver to Hawaii once a year on their way to Australia.  Royal really needs bigger ships - or newer small ships on this side of the world.  Until that happens, I might opt for flying to Florida, Texas, or NJ for a larger class of ships that are newer.

    Day 4 - Ensenada
We stayed on the ship again today, but so did a lot of others.  It really felt like a day at sea with fewer things to do.
I took a couple of calls in the morning for work, and then we ventured out for breakfast up in the Windjammer.  We've found that breakfast at WJ is great for us because of the variety. We wandered around after that and did a lot of people watching and chilling.  We grabbed lunch around Noon and then got into our suits for an afternoon in the water.
We attempted to enjoy the main pool and sit in the chaise lounges in the shallow water for a while.  I had successfully fallen asleep and a mini-human jumped over the middle section into the water next to me, which splashed me in the face and promptly woke me up.  We hung out for a while longer and when more mini-humans joined forces, we vacated and went to the Solarium pool.  We ended up in the water for over three hours, and were very wrinkled when we finally got out.
We attempted the dining room again, and this time I ordered the Chops Grille Filet Mingon for $19.99.  I ordered it medium-rare, and was a touch on the rare side, but it was excellent overall.  It came with a choice of peppercorn or butter sauce, and I chose the butter.  It was just melted butter, and I didn't use it.  I ordered a baked potato with it, and they brought out mashed potatoes instead.  I didn’t bother saying anything because I finally had good food and the mashed potatoes were fine.

After dinner, we wandered around to various venues looking for a place to hang out, and ended the night in the Schooner Bar with the piano music and vocals that were okay.
Came back to the 2nd and final towel animal of the cruise.  Apparently, they don’t do them every night anymore.  I miss them!

Thank you, @AshleyDillofor changing the title; I realized after I posted it that it was probably difficult to read.
