Ok, I've been able to start up again.  I know it's way behind, but I hate leaving things undone.  I have surgery on 3/12, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it before then, but I will complete the trip eventually.

We have three gty cabins booked.  First one sails Feb 17.   
 
We are not concerned in the least.  If we get within a week to ten days of sailing and have no assignment or muster station assigned, we will ask our travel agent to look into it. 

I would encourage everyone here to read and reread through this story and use it as a learning tool. Apply the lessons to every upcoming cruise you have in the future.
Meaning: Passengers miss embarkation on every sailing, on every cruise line. There are a bazillion reasons why and one of them is that they are turned away by the cruise line for a reason they will never find out. So....thinking about an upcoming cruise you may have  'What would you do if you missed the boat?' I don't think you need to have an explicit plan but you should table the thought and talk about it beforehand. Someone who drives to a port and does a short haul 3 or 4 nighter the answer might be as simple as turn around and go back home. If your next cruise is grail cruise packed with bucket list items that you have spent a small fortune for... then having the Plan B is as important as packing your suitcases. An important note about the Plan B: folks here will chime in and say 'I'd never let that happen' or 'I always have trip insurance' or 'Michael Bayley is my FB friend' or 'I book refundable'  none of that means squat. I look at it as my butt is in Brisbane and I don't have a ship to get on, I need create a vacation (or a way back home) with the funds in my wallet and contents of my suitcases. OK...GO!
Another lesson is to see that Royal choses to give bad news in the embarkation terminal. They delay and therefore don't call, or email, or use the free online chat, or notify your travel agent. They wait till you show up at embarkation. Again, it's likely you'll never find out the real reason for the denial. This is very much the culture of RCCL. I'll allow you time to scratch your head and wonder why it is so important for me to provide all this contact information to Royal when booking the cruise, signing into the website, and  UGH! online check-in if they ain't ever gonna use it?
 
As a guy who has been on 50 some Royal Caribbean cruises and flown to every one, yes; I have made it on every boat. However, there have been no less than 5 times the wolf was knocking on the door. And even though I made it through those five difficult times, it was very obvious to see that it might have gone completely the other way. So I'm here to tell you if you are going to make cruising a part of your life, it's not a matter if you'll ever miss a sailing but rather; could it be your next one?
I begin rolling my dice again next Thursday, wish me luck.
 
 
 

I don't think things have gotten steadily worse. I think things have changed. Change can be positive or negative. I do think some unfavorable changes have occurred. But it's a toss up as worse. I also wonder because the same changes Royal has made, so have the other cruise lines. Actually so has airbnb, hotel/airline loyalty, hotels and airlines in general. Let's see restaurants, grocery and retail stores. I don't think anything is truly what it was before the pandemic. Even before that.....things change.
This gty situation could have happened no matter who was CEO. I'm not going take anything negative and just blame the CEO.

Oh this is far from settled.
The NMB has set more dates for another round of negotiations between AA and APFA (the union that represents AA's flight attendants).  According to a memo that was reviewed by an online site called Live and lets fly the APFA does not expect any thing new to come out of the next round of these newly scheduled NMB negotiations and intends to once again request a release to strike after those negotiations which by the way are scheduled to take place over a 3 day period December 12th through the 14th. According to the union American Airlines has not submitted any type of real proposal that comes close to addressing the APFA's concerns. If AA shows up with the same proposal that they've shown up with at other NMB negotiations the APFA will once again request a release to strike.   
That still doesn't mean the NMB will grant their request and even if their request was granted there still would be quite a few steps before they could legally strike assuming Congress would let them strike but this is NOT settled at all.  And again although I work for a different airline I think we are all keeping an eye on AA's negotiations because how AA goes is probably how the airline I work for will go and probably what Delta would do even though Delta FA's are not union at this time.   I can tell you this the two sides (AA and APFA) are still very, very, very far apart on a wide range of issues.

It was one ship that clearly had other last minute issues going on that caused the cancellations at the pier.

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I'm by no means trying to convince you otherwise.
Just realize how many thousands and thousands of GTY cabins Royal sells over the course of a year across the fleet. Incidents like this are VERY rare.

This was a one time, very freak thing- it's not the norm, and we don't even know that it had anything to do with the passengers having GTY rooms. Don't let that deter you from reserving a GTY room if that is what you are looking at. I actually have my first GTY room booked for July, and have no worries at all about being cancelled. 

I appreciate the company’s position of withholding information out of respect for the family…and the process.
I agree that they have more substantial evidence including cameras and witnesses. But there’s no immediate need to satisfy curiosity or quell rumors at the expense of prematurely reaching an official conclusion until all of the investigative processes are complete…from all agencies involved.
Then they can issue a carefully worded statement addressing the cause. Litigation will likely follow, as usual…a life was lost and all avenues need to be explored as to how it happened, what preventive measures were reasonable to ensure it didn’t happen, and can anything be done to prevent it from happening again.
