Baked Alaska reacted to twangster in Royal Cancels Cruises
I never realized the extent to which full ship charters occur.  Researching this led me to this page:
    https://www.cruisetimetables.com/full-cruise-ship-charters.html
What this doesn't tell you is when the ship was chartered which leads to how many guests were displaced (and upset in the process).
It will be little consolation but Royal doesn't appear to charter as much as some of the other cruise lines.

I'd consider writing a letter to Royal's CEO.  I think it is important for him to realize the long term impact of losing loyal customers versus the short term gain of a one time cash grab.

RCL has cancelled our March 10-15 cruise on Navigator of the Seas, as well as a couple others. Supposedly they have chartered all three cruises.

8 months away. March break. All they offered was $100 onboard credit to rebook and my rebooking fees on my flights.

I can't even find a four night cruise interior cabin at the same price of my large Panoramic room 5 night cruise. If I say screw it and don't travel, I lose $2000 in flights, which, since I booked my flights early, have to be used by the end of April 2019.

My twin girls are so upset, and I have no idea what to do. I used MEI travel and will talk to Sharla in the morning, but rooms booked up fast overnight. Right now our best option may be Universal Orlando this August before school starts.

We had the perfect cruise. I booked the corner large panoramic room on the corner of the ship. We had a beach bungalow on Labadee and ultimate dining package, all set for Navigator a month after its refurb. Now, nothing. it's 2am and I can't sleep.

Never, ever, EVER will I EVER book Royal again, and I will tell everyone I know what happened and to never, ever, EVER book with them.

They screwed three ships worth of customers for a little extra cash.

Update: My hubby is being discharged after 2nd trip to ER in 24 hrs. Still have 24 more hrs for anti-venom, if necessary. Determined to be a Copperhead bite. While he has deep puncture wounds, the venom load was small. So, in a wait and watch. Measuring swelling, if any, above his knee. Anti-venom is $25,000. That's two Disney cruises to Alaska, balcony. 4 + RCCL CRUISES ANYWHERE balcony/JS! And dont forget the tripi insurance and drink packages!

Oh my goodness.  What a freak thing.  I am so sorry to hear it.  Prayers and positive thoughts coming your way.  Hang in there !
I recently purchased annual trip insurance which is something I thought I would NEVER do but I knew that once I turned 65 (13 more days) I would not be covered by Medicare outside of the US.  I now have a great sense of comfort knowing that we are covered for all of our upcoming cruises without having to individually cover each of them.

Wow --- Hoping for a speedy recovery ..... Here in the central Appalachians, we really only have to deal with two..... Copperheads and Rattlesnakes.  I live on the side of a mountain and with nothing behind me except the land going up the mountain, I know both of those snakes, and many non-venemous ones are there..... We've learned to live by one simple rule, black snakes keep the rattlesnakes away ..... Whenever I see a black snake, which is somewhat frequent, I just let it do its thing or I just nudge it with a stick in a direction so as to not run into it and for it to not get hurt.
Hoping for a quick recovery.  And you're right, trip insurance is invaluable.... it only takes one instance for it to become a life-saver.

Last evening my son and husband went trout fishing. After having caught their limit and cleaned their trout, they walked back to the truck to head home. My husband had thought he had stepped on a stick, breaking it, with part of it snapping and hitting his ankle. He never did see the stick. Just noticed the sharp pain and a little blood about 15 steps later. When they got in the truck, he examined his ankle further and saw two puncture marks. Yep, a snake bite. He went to the emergency room last night and got home around 4:30 AM (today). At that time they did not give him any anti-venom (recall he never saw the snake). Here in the Ozarks, we have many venomous snakes (Copperhead, Rattle snake, and Water Moccasin/Cotton Mouth, to name just a few), but rarely do people get bit by them. My husband is now back in the emergency room as I write this post, with further swelling and nausea.
We have our Alaska cruise and pre-cruise vacation exactly 365 days from today. The total cost of this YOLO trip approaches $20K. We insure every cruise trip we take with the "Cancel For Any Reason" added to the policy. Had this situation occurred even up to a week before our trip, we would cancel. If you can AFFORD to lose the cost of your trip, whatever the amount, the don't buy trip insurance. Or, if you can afford to lose the cost of your trip, you can afford trip insurance.  If you can't (or can't stand the thought of losing the money), BUY TRIP INSURANCE WITH CANCEL FOR ANY REASON TAGGED ON!
We need prayers and good thoughts sent our way. Hoping he keeps his leg and we move on from here. Tomorrow is another day.

For our Alaska sailing, we have the 5 night dining package. Regardless of where we eat, save Windjammer, we will be wearing jeans or Khakis. We will be doing a lot of fishing and as such, would rather pack for fishing excursion weather and not formal night. Weather boots and layered clothing will take a lot of room in our suit cases, already. I agree with @MikeK, "don't worry what the others are wearing." As long as your comfortable. Heck, you will probably not see these people the following week ever again, and really, will you remember what your fellow cruise passengers wore at lunch, let alone the day before? Don't worry, be happy. ?

Along those lines, twenty years ago we were on our second cruise-11 night Hawaii- and the ship was teeming with passengers much older than we were (50). Many had walkers or scooters or canes or assistants. On one of the formal nights   I was mortified I had forgotten my matching shoes and my husband made everything all right when he said, “ Don’t worry about it. Most of these people will be impressed you can walk unassisted.”  LOL

I was on the Oasis for the June 17th sailing in a loft suite so we ate in the coastal kitchen every evening.  On formal night a couple in their 30s with young children were dressed in shorts and flip flops, they must have been star class because a genie was talking to them the whole meal.    I dont dress up anymore for formal night so i had on slacks and a button up shirt.  About 25% were in coats and ties, 50% in slacks and shirts and 25% in shorts.  Last year on the Oasis we ate in the MDR and formal night about 50% in coats and ties,  25% in slacks and 25% in shorts.  Basically dress how you feel the most comfortable and dont worry what the others are wearing.
